  1. OK, since the search pages have changed, the idea of 'filling' out your first 2 pages doesn't make sense anymore. If you click on 'filter finds' you get a list of caches you have not found yet all on the first page. So, you will *never* fill that page up. So, the latest question is, "How far away is that first one?" Personally, I had it up to almost 10 miles for a minute there. But, I am slowing down, and now there are several in the 6 mile range and one even at 1.5 miles staring at me. How about you? 2. Try just going to http://www.magellangps.com and click on the links to the contest. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  3. quote:Originally posted by HartClimbs:Any suggestions on how to best TIE your boots on when geocaching? ... I think the problem is people don't know how to keep a thread on topic. He doesn't need to know how to LACE his boots. That is just silly. He needs help to TIE them. Come on now, if you don't want to help the poor fella, don't say anything at all. You are giving posters of this forum a bad reputation. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  4. My old Garmin would get some sort of screen jumble and fill up with lines. I had to 'reboot' it to get it to work. It got worse as time went on. I have a new one now, and the old one is a backup, but eventually, I feel that it will just be dead. This is after a year and a half of steady use. 5. Well, how about as a gameshow on television? Not a reality show. Either they are open to everyone, or maybe just to the three teams signed up for the episode. But, you could get on the show, and find the location and the prize. If people had to transport themselves like on Amazing Race, then the budget of the show would be lower. 6. After playing, and winning, the Magellan contest, I got an idea. How about a site (different from this one) that ran like a game show? Different corporate sponsors would donate prized in exchange for advertisement. (Just like television gameshows) Then they would be hidden by us geocachers for people to solve clues and find. The same idea as the Magellan contest, but not limited to just their products. Perhaps the clues would start generally and get more specific, and maybe include a puzzle to find the exact coordinates. Anyone think this would work? I'm sure some small companies would donate one of their products in the beginning, even if Hilton doesn't come on right away and give a week's vacation until some momentum gets generated. 7. I would have had the same experience, as I was chasing those same coords. But, one mile before I got there, CurlyKrakow told me to try min sec format, because online it looked like a park. He saved my ***, as I only beat GeoChasers by 10 seconds. BTW, *** is in the Bible. 8. On the way home, I got the coordinates for the next one. I got to within .4 miles and decided that I didn't have the right shoes for the job. That second one is a hike. So, I called Ventura Kids, who was driving north from San Diego. Last call I got, he had the winning ticket in hand. I would have felt too greedy if I bogarted both CA prizes in one day. Congrats to VK, and CurlyKrakow, who told me about the contest, and all in #geocache who lent a hand on the cell phone. I am at a stop on the way home. Traffic is crazy. When I get all the way home, I'll post more and tell the story. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan

  10. Here is the latest. The coords changed on Magellans site from N 33 35.36 to N 33 35.56 This puts them smack in someone's back yard. I mentioned this on the Magellan forum on their site and they just pulled posting priveledges for 'regular maintenence' I think we got their attention. Also, I spoke with Karen Carbonay (sp?) at Magellan, 408-615-5100, the Vice President in charge of this contest. She was very nice and had never heard anything about this confusion till I called her. She took my number and said after she finds out what the story is, she will call me. 11. I just left a voice mail with the PR department. I told them that about 50 geocachers will be out there tromping up the neighborhood with Magellan t-shirts on. When the neighbors call the police, and it hits the fan, everybody will tell them that Magellan told them to go there. I doubt seriously if Magellan got permission to hide a cache in that neighborhood, and this will be some bad press. 12. Awesome. Thanks. Be sure to email me too, if you find one, as I don't always remember to check the Aussie board. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  13. Why haven't they posted the CA coords yet? I think I broke my refresh button on my browser. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  14. Now that I see you are in Canada, this isn't making much sense. I would need someone in Australia to purchase it, then send it to you and then you would attach 'your' bug to it and somehow I would be involved? I was picturing something more along the lines of someone in Australia purchasing the item, and attaching 'my' bug to it, and the goal would be to make it to me. I appreciate the offer, though. Is nobody in Australia willing to lend a hand? Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  15. I had the same issue a few weeks ago. I just stopped getting the PQs I had in the system. So, I started making new ones whenever I needed one and got them right away. This week I forgot to delete them and since a week has passed, I got them as scheduled. So, my recommendation would be to delete your old ones, and put in new ones (same PQ, if you like) and just wait a week. They should come regularly then. 16. Criminal, you know you can search from your home coords exactly, right? And not just your home zip code. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  17. As long as we are talking about learning games, I made one of my own. It is an online version of the party game "Apples to Apples" Rules can be found here. My version takes the answers you give and learns from them the 'correct' answer. I guess it would be more like Family Feud, since it is in fact polling all of you. I have so many words in there, that it is not smart enough yet to be much more than random, so I need people to play and teach it. I have already got everyone in #geocache playing, so I might as well tell you here. Go to my personal site and click on the link for "Mitsuko Match" to play. I am interested in how they make the engine for the 20 question game, as I just kind of made up the engine for this game. Artificial intelligence is pretty complex. I doubt either of these games would pass the Turing Test. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  18. Sounds great. Let me know how to pay you, and you can send me the copy of the travel bug tag. Or, maybe we can get Groundspeak to send us each one part of them. If you attach the tag and get it started, I'm sure someone will get it to the States. Contact me at my geocaching account, and we'll get it going. Do you have paypal? 21. You'll have to scroll down the logs, but my 100th find adventure is here. I learned a lot about geocaching and myself that day. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan
  22. I want people to find my caches, so I give really specific hints for all of them. I do use the tier method, where I give a general nudge, then a more detailed hint to get them thinking, and finally a dead giveaway. I have even figured out how to get an ordered list tag to work while encoded. I do this because I really am a terrible looker and I really detest getting to the end of a long hike only to have to hunt for over a half an hour tromping all over the vegetation and overturning rocks to find the container. I really leave a terrible mess if they are hidden too well. Ever notice how anyone that caches more than you do is a maniac, while anyone that caches less than you do is an idiot? -Dru Morgan

  24. So *you're* the guy eating the caches! Ha Ha. I know the feeling. I have many that I was the LTF on. I feel terrible like it is my fault if it gets plundered after I find it. 25. I want to make this a travel bug. I think it would be more fun to have someone in Australia buy it (I'll pay, of course) and attach a travel bug tag to it. I'll send you the tag. Then its goal will be to get filled up with trinkets on its way to me in Los Angeles, CA. Is anyone up for the task?
