  1. Thanks everyone for the responses; I will be contacting the TB owner.
  2. Apologies if this has been covered before but I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. I have a TB that I grabbed from a cache five years ago and shortly after got out of geocaching. I recently got back in the game but the TB (unfortunately) got lost somewhere in the midst of life happening and then a cross country move, never to be seen again. I haven't been able to figure out a way to remove it from my personal inventory. The only answers I've been able to find are related to clearing out a TB from a cache inventory; however this one is listed as being in my hands. Is there a way to mark such a TB as missing?
  3. I would go with the county the posted coordinates are in, and as far as I know, that's what most softwares will pick up (GSAK, Project GC, etc.) I haven't found these, but I know of two multi caches right on the US-Mexico border in Tijuana where the posted coordinates are in Mexico, but the final is in the US. There are plaques on the Mexico side that you have to get info from in order to get the coordinates for the final.
  4. I've also seen a multi that required a UV light where the first stage had the coordinates written in invisible ink on a magnet strip and then attached to the bottom of a bench. Ink was fading a bit but overall still readable. This might help to eliminate confusion by writing the coordinates on a piece of paper and putting it in a container so that it looks like a regular log.
  5. Selling my Garmin etrex 20 topo map bundle that comes with the unit, case, belt clip, and an SD card with topo maps for the entire US. I even have the original box. Selling for $150. Unit is in great condition and am selling it because I recently upgraded to an Oregon model. Message or post if interested!
  6. I've got a Garmin etrex 20 for sale that comes with a case, belt clip, and topo maps for the entire US, plus I have the original box. I'll let it go for $150 but no less. That is a fair offer considering how expensive the mapping is. Let me know if you're interested.
  7. To be honest I'm not sure, but I know it has the whole U.S. loaded on there. I still have the box somewhere so I can check and let you know though
  8. Selling my Garmin eTrex 20. Nothing wrong with it, just recently upgraded to one of the Oregons. Comes with a case and belt clip, and has Garmin's topo maps for the whole U.S. Asking $150 OBO. Please shoot me an email if interested. Posted here as well as Craigslist.
  9. Looking to buy an eTrex 20 in good condition. If you have one that is not being used anymore, let me know! I'd be happy to take it off your hands
  10. Thanks for the input everyone. If this helps at all ill probably be using this unit mostly for urban caching or rural (not so much backcountry). Tried out the eTrex 20 in store and it seemed pretty straightforward to use. Couldn't try the Dakota because that particular store didn't have it. Normally I prefer touch screens on units but I've heard several people say the buttons are a lot better to use. Any more thoughts on the two compared?
  11. I am looking to buy a GPSr and wanted to hear any personal experience with either of these units, comparing them. Which is the better model? How is it getting along without the electronic compass? (for clarification I'm looking at probably either the Dakota 10 or eTrex 20). Thanks for the input!
  12. I might be interested. Will send PM later in the day
  13. I've heard that Garmin products are definitely good. What are the reasons that the eTrex 20 is better than the 10? Pretty sure the Oregons are out of my price range but I might go for a 20
  14. I recently got some money for my birthday that will allow me to buy an actual GPS for geocaching (been using my iPhone up to this point). I'm interested in both the Garmin Etrex 10 or 20, but the 20 might be a little too pricey for me. What I'd like to know is if I were to try and buy the 20, is it worth the money over the 10? What are some of the pros and cons of each? Also, is there another kind of GPS that would possibly work better at around my budget? (about $100). Also, if you're selling either of these units in good condition I'm interested in offers Thanks for the help everyone!
  15. This question may seem obvious, but let me explain a bit. I know that multi caches can have several stages, but my question applies directly to certain kinds of multi caches. I've noticed that some multi caches appear to lead you to a location, where you have to solve a puzzle or fill in some blanks to find the coordinates directly to the final state cache. Isn't this exactly like a puzzle cache? Just curious to see if there was any difference in this.
  16. I have an iPhone 4, so perhaps it could get the coordinates close. Thanks for all of the suggestions everyone! We will definitely try averaging or waiting a bit. We didn't put a hint because we thought it was fairly easy, but perhaps I'll add one and also to future caches. We can always use suggestions, so keep them coming! Glad to have gotten addicted to something so fun
  17. Hello all! We are new to Geocaching and forgive us if this has been asked, but I couldn't find a straight answer anywhere so I thought this might be helpful. Currently we do not have a handheld GPS (college student budget unfortunately), but are able to geocache using the iPhone app. A few weeks ago we tried hiding a couple of caches, and took the coordinates for the cache from the app, and posted those. However, several people complained that these coordinates were off by quite a bit. While we'd like to get a handheld GPS, we're not sure it's in the budget right now (if one can recommend a cheap GPS, we are all ears though!). My question is, is there a way to take accurate coordinates from the iPhone app when hiding a geocache? We'd really like to hide a bunch more caches but don't want to hide them if we can't take accurate coordinates. Thanks for your help! Also, if you have any tips for newbies just starting to get addicted, we'd appreciate it too
