  1. Getting used to an added step in getting the information from geocaching.com to the GPSR in a usable fashion will take a lot of getting used to. Thanks Benjamin921 for the instructions on my second question. I sure didn't see that in the users manual.
  2. I bought a PN-20 and just started trying it out for caching. My two main questions are; 1)Is there a less complicated way to load waypoints. It seems that I have to first load them onto a DeLorme mapping program and then from that program to the PN-20. 2) Can the waypoint list on the PN-20 be arranged to show the closest waypoint? From what I have seen so far I have to located the cache I want to go to on the map and then search the alpha/numeric list for that waypoint and then make a route to it. If there arean't easier ways to enter the waypoints and to locate nearby caches, I will be very disappointed with my purchase. Way to many steps for easy usage.
  3. Thanks for the bookmark list. There is a link to trucker friendly caches on www.geotruckers.com that includes other interstate and primary hwy. caches. They have also started a RV friendly bookmark.
  4. This is the website for theNevada Geocaching Association: NV Geocaching
  5. I second the Red Rock Canyon area suggestion. There are several caches outside the fee area with varying terrain ratings and more inside the fee area, some with low ratings some with higher ratings. Along the strip are Hotel George, Las Vegas and Mixed Pasteboards; plus the ones Rusty_tlc mentioned. If you like multi' and don't mind getting dirty Las Vegas' Amazing Cache is a hoot. It also takes you to a unique area in the Las Vegas valley.
  6. It's good to hear about the cooperation with state park officials. We went to caches in several east Texas state parks last fall. Not only were the rangers cooperative they welcomed cachers, of course there was a nominal fee to enter the park. At one park the rangers had even done maintainence by drying out and replacing the cache after someone left the lid open. I also met a park ranger at a park in Laguna Niguel, Ca that knew were the cache I was seeking was hidden and waited around till I found it to make sure it was still in place.
  7. Temps in Las Vegas in late May seldom get to triple digits. Many of the locals cache all year around. During summer many like to go at night, I for one haven't been very good at night caching. I would suggest get an early start and plan to stop before Noon. Of course I don't follow that advise myself, but I have lived here for 40 years.
  8. MsPriss, I don't frequent this forum often and just saw your post. Take a look at http://www.nevadageocaching.com/ You will meet great cachers there.
  9. This was posted on the nevadageocaching.com forum today by Dr. Webe: "Good News!! The Get Well Duck is sitting on Jim and Connie's front door waiting for them to get home. Nice Motorhome Jim. Will post to the duck's page later. Can anyone notify the Duck's owner in Oregon for me? Thanks....... " The T-Bug owner has been notified that the mission is complete.
  10. lv2ofus has riden to the rescue and will get the Duck back on track.
  11. I may be a little partial, but these are some of my favorite LV caches: Y.A.P.I.D.K.A., a SW LV multi, Looks like S.D.S. To Me, a SW LV multi, Not Two Feet, a SW LV multi, Mixed Pasteboards, a south Strip traditional, Hotel George, Las Vegas, a central Strip traditional, Skull Rock, a bit of a hike in Red Rock Canyon, Pirouette at the Ruins, a SW LV traditional, Red Rock Overlook, a micro near Red Rock Canyon, The Brownstone Gate, a micro near the Critter Cache mentioned by someone else, Sunset of the Desert, a SW LV traditional, Sweet End of Russell, a difficult traditional in SW LV. There are caches in nearly every park in Las Vegas. Depending on how long ago you attended UNLV, you may be familiar with many of the parks.
  12. Try Kiing's Lookout in Cancun. I rode a bus to it from our hotel, there is a small entry fee to the park. There are several caches in the Cabo area, with varying degrees of difficulty. If you are in San Jose del Cabo try Benito Who? On the road to Cabo San Lucas there's Fore Real in Cabo, an easy walk up a good path. Great views at the top. In Cabo San Lucas there Are several near Los Arcos. Try the Cabo Cache and search for nearby caches.
  13. The cacher that dropped it at the virtual cache may have been the same cacher that picked it up from the virtual cache. The cacher may have done this to show where the bug has been or to just add miles to it's travels.
  14. I did a cache yesterday in Carlsbad, CA, LEGO MINI STASH. While small there was room for a log sheet, the owner didn't provide one. Instead he left instrctions for the method to log a find and get credit, similar to a virtual. No photo, just a code method, very simple. One of the things I enjoy about caching is the variety of hiding places, containers and other interesting variations. Although I'm not good with codes, riddles and peotry. This was an interesting cache in Havasu City, AZ. Riddled with Critters.
  15. Here's another T-Bug that has traveled a lot of miles; Calien Ripkin. http://www.geocaching.com/track/track_detail.asp?ID=1943
  16. Before our trip to the northwest last summer I did a search using I-5 as the key word. That came up with several caches along the way. I also have a book titled "Exit Authority" it lists the location and what is located at interstare exits including rest stops. After locating the rest stops I searched for caches using those coordinates. That gave me more caches near our route than we could ever do and get to our destination.
  17. Anyone in the Oregon/Washington area famliar with the Cache-Crew? They haven't been active since the middle of July, and I'm trying to locate a travel bug they picked up in Oregon.
  18. If the Blazer Bunch is out there, please contact me. The e-mail address in your profile returns as undeliverable. I have information on one of your travel bugs. If anyone else has contact with the Blazer Bunch, please pass this on
  19. I certainly hope you enjoy Las Vegas in July. It's not the hottest month, maybe second to August. 1. Never been to the desert. It's hot and dry, sometimes windy and very little shade. Take plenty of water, take your own shade and sun screen. 2. Who isn't kinda old and overweight? 3. The likelihood of meeting snakes or big bugs is small in the day time. Hell, it's just as hot for them as it is you. Actually the LV area has very few things in the way of poisonous snakes or bugs. A few sidewinders and black widows, both are more likely encountered in cooler or darker times than you when will be out geocaching. I would still not put my hand in any holes without checking first, in the desert even the plants bite. 4. Flatlanders, this leads to my suggestions for caches that should meet your requirements. GC9BF, $5 Scarlet, About a tenth of a mile in a beautiful area. GC49C5, Microwave 360, nearly a drive up with spectacular views. GC4381, Mad Dash, It's in Arizona but you are going to the dam any way, it's only a little further. GC29AD, Creepy Cache, strange but easy. GC4F84, Lava-Lava-Lava, near Creepy cache, a little more difficult. GC1E73, Near the last two with a short hike if you mss the road. GC1496, Dam Railroad Cache, A beautiful 1/2 mile hike, it's on the way to the dam but may be a little hot in July. GC4FF4, A multi cache, but near Creepy, Lava-Lava-Lava and El Dorado. GC3F59, Lone Mt. Cache, a good one to see residential and under construction areas of Las Vegas. That should take care of all your geocaching urges in LV. We will be out of town a lot during July, but e-mail me if you have questions. [This message was edited by longwalker on June 08, 2002 at 09:17 AM.]
  20. With my Sony Cybershot DSC-F505 I can tag each photo with a voice description. But, that doesn't show on the photo, it has to be played back by the computer or the camera. When I transfer the photos to an album I type that information in the photo description. [This message was edited by longwalker on May 01, 2002 at 03:02 PM.]
  21. The Garmin site has only a "sneak peek" at the RINO. Last night I got a catalog from technoscout which list the RINO 120 at 259.95 USD. http://www.technoscout.com
