  1. Hi 85641, there's no way to do what you want, IE, Europe, upcoming Mega - without already knowing to some level of detail where and when the Mega is. With map as it currently exists, if you want Mega Events in Europe, you'd need to select for Event (which is all types), then pan out to see all of Europe. Image below. Assuming the Mega is still some time into the future and you already know that, you could filter for Newest - typically Megas are published a year out, while other events are only published a few weeks to at most 6 months out. If you know it's in France, you could zoom down to France. I expect downloading the France event list, and examining it would work. If you know neither the country nor date of an upcoming Mega, none of the current filters help To see the difference between the red Event icon and the Mega icon on the map, you need to get down to zoom 12. As a search for an area of any size, this is not feasible. I tried "add 500 to a list" from the initial Events, Europe zoom to see if I could get to the Mega by examining the list, but that failed. Ie, I had 500 events, but it didn't pick up the Mega.
  2. Completely agree with this. Cache owners attempting to change their coords by using the Corrected Coords module is now epidemic. A very high percentage of first time hides (and others) will need to Update Coords after publication, as they get feedback from finders; for those cache owners, finding that function is less obvious now than it has ever been.
  3. Hi Andrew, I see your cache is correctly submitted. I see a lot of activity in your state, and particularly many events. Because events are time sensitive, they're reviewed first. You may have set yourself back by disabling on day 7 and then submitting again. First review within 7 days is the service goal (not always met.) Reviewers are volunteers, they have lives outside of caching. Patience. Once published, it will be live on the site for however long you chose to maintain it. I'm not sure that the move you made in response to the initial review is actually a fix. But I leave that to the area reviewer.
  4. It's not clear to me from brendanjw's post that staff understands that IF you've been selected to see Test Map, you CANNOT use search? At the moment, Test Map is far better than Current Map; in many ways, more selections, better tiling, the map itself is clearer, there's some immediately visible info about caches in the left margin (too much white space, bulky in the presentation, No GC Code? ) but the disadvantage of not being able use search way outweighs any benefit. So perhaps allow people to use Search and Test Map would be good ;-) Thanks
  5. Used current Test Map and current Search to select Arkansas caches Trads, Multi, LBH, size Small Reg, Large, D 1 - 3.5, T 2 - 4. Sorted on Favorites Map from search, "the first 1000", from search I could have selected this set of 1000 from a center point (my hotel) Distance, or by Terrain, Difficulty, Date of Last Find. Search provides the total number that meet the parameters (1428) From Test Map, options are 500 by Favorites, Oldest, Newest. It's not clear to me that 500 are shown, but I assume that's true. From Test map you can add 500 to a bookmark Using Current maps, only the cache type filtering would be available, No D/T, No sizes, and the only filter is distance from center point. From current map, you can create a Pocket Query.
  6. Windows Pro Firefox 61.0.1 all scripts turned off There have been some requests for comparisons between the test map and the current map. As my admin account has 'new map' and my player account current, some screenshots. Current map, in location pane, enter Arkansas - a U.S state - the URL includes my home coords so I've obscured it, otherwise it's as you see it New test map, location pane, enter Arkansas No filters used by me on either, no altering of the default zoom Old map comes zoomed to some point in the state (central?) . Test map shows the entire state, apparently illustrating around 500 caches, ranked on Favorites - the apparent default sort. If I alter the sort from Favorites to Oldest/Newest, the list changes, but the map only changes if I refresh the browser.
  7. In admin mode, I see your cache as successfully created and saved. A Traditional cache, in South East England https://coord.info/GC7Y168 You should have gotten an email about it, not a 500 error! Your uploaded image to this thread suggests that you're trying to download the cache to an app, which won't work. Instead, click the link of the cache page that's shown on your "Unpublished disabled caches" page, or the link I've provided above - this from a browser, not as an app download. Once you're on the page, if you still don't see the Blue Submit pane that arisoft has illustrated (it will look slightly different, Edit and Submit, not Resubmit) you may see either the Log a cache button, or edit, either of which might work. If you just can't see it from the website, not through an app, or you can, but there's no edit, log, submit you could email the local reviewer - looks to be Professor Xavier https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=c1cb7ed0-de05-4ed4-a909-295b0eeb4aa4 include a GC code. Reviewer can enable/submit. I could, but I'd rather not, I think the issue may just be that you're trying to download, rather than view.
  8. Firefox 61.0. 1 Windows Pro The new mapping search functions are nice. A person immediately notices that ALL of the function of Search are not available, instead of noticing that a lot more search function are now on maps than there were ;-) because that's just how it is. I think have to opt out, as this was offered to my reviewer account, and I need the search functions that aren't available. Or stay with it, in hopes that maybe I can have both? New maps and search? right now, anything in search goes to map. This is way less than ideal. I can't seem to get rid sorting by Oldest, Newest or Favorites. I don't necessarily want any of those filters.
  9. I see only one unpublished disabled cache that you own. You explained that you wanted a couple of months to complete it a couple of months ago, and responded to the reviewer's other questions. All looks good to me, you handled this exactly right, though you're at the end of the time frame you originally proposed for this. I assume this is what you mean by "pre-register' it to prevent other caches being placed within it's range." ?? The coords on that cache page are now too close to another cache that you own, which does effectively block your original placement. What you might have done is not block cache number 1 by placing cache number 2? Otherwise, I'd say your option is exactly what you seem to have already done - write up cache page, ask for check, answer any questions, and once the reviewer says all is okay, then get it done within that time frame.
  10. I do a lot of property ownership detective work. For your inquiry, I went to google.com/maps/ and entered your coords into the search box. This returned a map indicating the property as McNary NWR. Checking the Regional Policy wiki for Washington state, I see that you'd need a high level of verifiable and explicit permission for a cache. This wiki is linked in the permission section of the listing guidelines. Generally US National Parks and US National Wildlife Refuges have quite restrictive geocaching policy. US National Forests vary widely, from no permission required , to expensive fee permits, to just no. US BLM lands likewise: yes, no, maybe. Check the state wiki for that info. There are Google map errors. I own caches in a Florida State Forest, the caches have state forestry geocache permits, as required. Google map identifies the property as a National Wildlife Refuge. Another large area in Florida has a mix of state, county, and federal ownership - each with different geocaching policy (no permission required, free permit, verbal permission and no caches allowed) . The Google map calls it all one thing, a state WMA.
  11. Which "regular screen"? in a phone app? if that's the case, consider that the cache may be temporarily disabled, which is NOT the same as archived - and that very likely your phone is set up to show only caches that are Enabled. Put your proposed cache coords into the Search box That list will show the cache if it's there and simply disabled. The planning map step of Hide a cache will NOT show you nor warn you of the finals of other caches, or other unpublished caches. If the planning map says the location is unavailable, that means the conflict is with the publicly visible coords of a published cache.
  12. The only person who knew where your caches was hidden was you. At the first review, the reviewer asked you about the cache page coords - on one cache they're on the roof a private residence, and on the other in some heavy forest on a ridge, 8 miles east of the parking coords you offer - possibly in Mount Holyoke Range State Park. Neither cache page has coords that would allow anyone to know where your caches are. I think you may be entering Degrees Minute Seconds coords into boxes for Degree Minutes Decimal Degrees. The 8 miles east thing is likely a typo on your part. "multiple questions over and over" - you were asked the standard questions by the first reviewer - to supply the info that's asked for at the time a cache is submitted, 1) what property your cache is on, that "public property" is not sufficient, 2) what you hid, the container and 3) how you hid it, finally 4) asked to check your coords. You did come back with name of property. At this point, I expect the reviewers are waiting for answers on 2, 3 and most importantly 4<--- coords. Look at the cache pages on the website - under the Hints field is a list of online maps - all of the maps their EXCEPT the first Geocaching.com show your coords as a push pin. Try clicking the link of the Google map, it's third on the list - that will show your coords as a push pin on map. GC7T59H coords are on Cherry street on the front porch of a rather lovely old home.
  13. Help Center article Coordinate formats If you're hiding, I suggest getting into the settings of whatever device you use, and setting the coords format to Degrees Minutes Decimal Minutes (hddmm.mmm) h=hemisphere - ie N S, or E W.
  14. Possibly. But that would not impact on this discussion. The person who originally requested that their log be locked onto a cache page would be the same person then later asking for it to be removed. It would be be.
  15. Just technical clarification rather than useful to the discussion, but I'll make it anyway. Logs are not locked. CO's cannot lock logs, CO's cannot edit other's logs. CO's can delete images and delete logs. Entire cache pages can be locked by an admin account. Locked status of a cache page stops logging, editing or deletion of existing logs. Archived cache pages cannot be edited in any case.
  16. I looked at the original reviewer note logs on the colleda LBH --> I see mis-communication. As submitted, the listing coords were not for the box, and the cache's actual coords were not attached to listing as a waypoint; offered as text in a reviewer note. I think colleda misunderstood the reviewer's request to write up the page in the actual form of the cache - as a Multi or Mystery. Submitted with only one waypoint in the Geocaching.com database, that waypoint must be the box. Coords for a specific location with a bearing and distance is an okay basis for a Mystery cache. Design any guidelines compliant Mystery, add stamp to the box, it's a Letterbox Hybrid. If it's coords for a specific location, gather info there, and use that info to continue to a box, that's a Multi, add stamp to make it a Letterbox Hybrid and just coords for box is a Traditional, add stamp, make it Letterbox Hybrid. Letterboxing style seems to be in the mind of the beholder, and varies considerably with time and place. On Geocaching.com it's box + stamp and at least one location referenced by coordinates. "the 'clues' were just three reference compass readings triangulating where the letterbox was. " Seaglass Pirates, writing about letterboxing in Dartmoor in the 1990s. Further down on that page a picture of the Dartmoor catalog. Here's an example of a letterbox clue: Crockern Tor HP tor 222.5. LHE trees 002 and 039. Trig 081.5. 12p from wall. Plugged in ground between 2 6ft x 3ft slabs. (Contains visitors book)
  17. A brief history of ALR 2000 - 2007 Cache owners could attach additional logging requirements to caches of any type, and they could delete logs of finders who did not comply. Log in haiku, email me codeword, or color of container, how you solved puzzle, Q&A were common. February 2007 Guidelines change: cache with ALR had to be listed as a Mystery cache. Older caches were NOT grandfathered. Cache owners were instructed to either remove the ALR, clearly make it optional, or contact a reviewer to change the cache type to Mystery. Reviewers were told not to actively seek out ALR caches but to respond when reported. April 2009 Guidelines eliminated ALR, with an exception for Challenge Caches. Older ALR caches were again not grandfathered. Again, reviewers were told not to actively seek out ALR caches but to respond when reported. There are still ALR caches of all types listed.
  18. Minor technical matter: appeals is for pre-publication disagreements between cache owner and reviewer, and is brought to GeocachingHQ's attention from the Help Center contact, select 09. Appeals Log deletion issues are also brought to GeocachingHQ's attention (not a reviewer) by using the Help Center contact. Do not select 09. Appeals, use 16. Geocacher Disagreement.
  19. The reviewer asked you, " to get this one approved by Appeals ". You've got time to do it, so do it. Use the Help Center contact for this (bottom of the page) for this. Select 09. Appeals - provide the info that's requested.
  20. I've had to opt out, as it changed from Search without the filter button, which was just a momentary inconvenience, to loading a map of caches (of Seattle?), sloooowly.
  21. I'm still intermittently seeing and not seeing filter on the search page. To those who are concerned about this, you can simply hit the magnifying glass icon, having entered nothing in the search field, (the site starts trying to spit out all 3 million plus caches) the filter button appears, immediately, allowing you to step onto the filter page to search without a location. It's one extra click. I could live without it, but it's not that horrible either. If they get the test running properly, I assume they'll learn something useful.
  22. i don't know if it's helpful, but i mention that as of 2pm eastern, palmetto intermittently sees and does not see "Filter" on the search page, as reported by noncentric.
  23. The Help Center article on Souvenirs lists by country and year. It won't list upcoming until they've been announced elsewhere (blog, newsletter, facebook) and sometimes lags those considerably. As now, the Signal souvie was announced some time ago, but it's not in the Help Center article. A Team list tends to be current. Most of what's there is a list of Mega/Giga events, which always get a souvenir as part of the GeocachingHQ sponsorship. The help center is linked twice on every page of Geocaching.com, it's one of the three links in the pull down to the right of your username in the upper right corner page, and it's in the bottom right.
  24. Your biggest problem will be reaching geocachers. You cannot list this as Geocaching Event. You cannot create a Geocaching Event as a section, division, location within an existing event. The Squiggy Classic Adventure race in the year it was held in the Wilderness parks north of the Tampa Bay area (2006 or 2007?) attempted a Geocacher division. I know because they tried to list it as a Geocaching event, and I explained that it could not be. I did advise on a couple of cachers who might be interested, but sans any effective way to reach out to geocachers, no one came.
