  1. Thanks! Will the GPS generally still point in the correct direction? Perhaps when it's a bit nicer out, we'll be able to spend a bit more time looking -- glad that my unit is waterproof, though... started coming down a bit hard for a while there.
  2. So, it's been rainy and miserable here the past week or so, but being a Saturday and having nothing else to do, me, the wife and my two year old pack up the old car along with my new Garmin eTrex Legend and head off to Glasgow Park for our first cache. With off and on rain in 40-degree weather, we stuck it out for a relatively long time; however, even standing still, it was hard for the GPS to pinpoint the exact location... the most accuracy I saw was to about 18 feet. It came to the point where my little girl ran into an unexpected puddle and soaked her feet when we decided to head back home and get her warm. So, the big question is, has anyone in Delaware hit a WAAS satellite? I wasn't able to get one at all. I'm sure it didn't help that I was under a thin tract of trees that was partially obscuring the sky, but still. Any advice on locating a cache with a sketchy signal would also be appreciated.
  3. Looking through some of the reviews on Amazon for the yellow eTrex, I'd probably have to agree.
  4. I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I figure I'll pose it again as technology and opinions change over time. I'm looking to get into geocaching for myself and my family -- since our kid is fairly young, we'll be sticking to parks and areas that are easily accessible. So, I'm looking for a basic GPS -- something that's going to have a built-in compass and the ability to connect to a PC to enter in coordinates, all while staying below $125 or so. Checking Amazon I see a few options: Garmin eTrex GPS ($80) Garmin eTrex Venture 1MB ($114) Garmin Geko 201 ($109) Garmin eTrex Legend ($119) Garmin Foretrex 201 Wrist-Mounted ($125) From my standpoint, the $80 model is looking pretty good. Interfaces with the PC, has a compass -- granted, from the product overview, it doesn't really have maps but, for me, getting to the area of the cache location isn't going to be too difficult (if it is, I have a TomTom Go 700 to aid me there). So, any thoughts or opinions?
  5. I recently got my TomTom GO 700 the other day and had a spark of interest in doing a bit of Geo Caching, so I figure I'd send out a feeler to see if any other folks currently use their TTG for this activity? While I haven't gone out yet -- still waiting for the 'Navigate to Lat/Long' application to be recompiled for the new firmware update -- there seems to be a lot of caches in my area, which is nice. If anyone has any tips or advice for geocaching with a TTG or for a newbie in general, feel free to reply.
