  1. Greetings all -

Back in 2003, a group of crazy geocachers made at trip to Cottege Grove to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Animal House. As I did last year, I'm attending again - in full Belushi mode - and would like to invite any of the old crew (or new) who might be interested in a last-minute Labor Day distraction. The event is on Saturday, Sept 3rd - and goes all day, culminating with the World's Largest Toga Party (recognized by Guiness in '03).

If you're interested in attending, let me know. We could even do a little geocaching on the side.

I've got a couple passes to the Toga Party, so it's first come. first served...

  2. Ok....it is time. Bluto has come.

The Animal House Celebration is this Saturday in Cottege Grove - and it's going to be a serious party.

A group of geocachers went with me last year and had a blast. I ended up winning the John Belushi Look-A-Like contest - and the party was on! Over 6000 people showed for the parade - and 2500 stayed for the world's largest toga party.

This year, I've been named Grand Marshall of the Animal House parade :o and been given a small block of tickets to the Toga Party (regularly $15). If anyone is interested in attending, just let me know - and I'll hook you up with a ticket.

    Trust me...it'll be fun.

    Cheers,

  3. ^_^ Bluto here....

Just wanted to put it out there again....the 2nd Annual Animal House Celebration in lovely Cottege Grove, OR! A time for togas, beer and Animal House!!!

A team of geocachers made it south with me last year - who's up for the same in September?

I'm getting a hotel in Cottege Grove on Friday - and plan to amuse myself until Sunday. Geocaching sub-trips may happen, they may not. Fun will be had, regardless.

  4. After a long winter's nap, Bluto Blutarski is rising again to celebrate the 2ND ANNUAL ANIMAL HOUSE CELEBRATION on September 4th, 2004!!!

Last year, a rag-tag group of geocachers venued south to Cottage Grove, OR to throw on a toga and party the night away. There wasn't much in the way of geocaching going on, but it sure was fun.

Since Cottage Grove has been so kind as to host this party again, I'm looking to get the gang back together (as well as a few other brave souls) for another gonzo experience.

This year, were going to try and maybe add a little geocaching into the mix. Perhaps something with a little Animal House theme. Nothing has been set up yet, but it's a long summer - and Bluto is crafty.

If you're interested in this shindig (which includes an Animal House parade, look-a-like contest and toga party), stay tuned to this thread for more information. A geocaching page will be set up soon. Hotel reservations will be made. Togas will be prepared.

Check out the website for the Animal House Celebration

    Cheers,

    Igor71 :D

  5. Yeah....the Animal House thing was pretty hilarious. Fractal, Oregone, LaurenCat, Bodoni@Co. were staying at the same motel.

Here's a synopsis of the experience.

Went down with my brother early on Saturday to attend the 25-year anniversary of Animal House in Cottage Grove. Since I love the film, it looked like a good chance to kick back in a toga and maybe have a little fun.

    Right.

Ended up winning a John Belushi look-a-like contest - and spent the rest of the day talking to the media, cruising around in a parade and posing for snapshots with many of toga-wearing masses. It was NUTS!

Being Belushi-for-a-day was some of the most physically exhasting work I've ever done. I was interviewed by no less than three newspaper reporters, a documentary film crew, MTV and the Eugene NBC affiliate. During the parade, I climbed on floats, accosted the marching band, zipped around on the back of a scooter, and was given license (by no less than the Cottage Grove police chief) to stagger around with an open container - screaming "TOGA, TOGA!".

My brother got much of this on video. ;-)

After the parade, I hung out with Animal House screenwriter Chris Miller, caught a screening of Animal House (that became an interactive experience like Rocky Horror) and hung out (along with my fellow PDX geocachers) at an evening concert that featured The Kingsmen and Otis Day and the Knights (the cover band from Animal House). The organizers were planning on registering this event as the World's Largest Toga Party. They weren't kidding. At one point, I was up on stage leading a toga-wearing crowd of 2500 in the toga chant. I must have posed for photos with about 600 people.

Suffice it to say, I had my beer covered.

By the end of Saturday night, AP had picked up the "Toga party" story and I ended up in the Washington Post and on the CNN website.

Believe it or not, this "party animal" crashed at midnight.

The next morning, I had breakfast with Otis Day and couple band members. As I munched on raisin bran, Otis went on about a nightmare he had while on sleeping pills.....something about his friends turning into midget creatures and chasing him. He said he woke up trying to climb a wall.

After the previous night, I couldn't blame him.

  6. Sadly enough, yes.

Had a great time partying with Oregone, Fractal, LaurenCat, Joe - and everyone else I can't remember. Met up with some Eugene geocachers after the toga party. My first geocaching event in many moons.

Might be up for the Halloween event if the stars are in allignment.

    This is Bluto...er...Igor71, signing off.

  7. Greetings all....

It's been a while since I've been on the boards (much less seen any of you) - and I've missed more events/meetups than I can count. Wanted to make it out to this park this past weekend, but was in rehearsals for an operetta I'll be performing in..

Life stepped firmly in the way of geocaching, that's for sure.

    Among the distractions....

Moving into a new house in July...

Worked on Gus Van Sant's "Elephant"....

I'm working on a new event cache....

Hope all is well with my long-lost friends.

    - GH

  8. I'm a little embarrassed about this one.

While traveling in Southern Oregon, I placed a cache in Crater Lake National Park - which (as I should have known) is verboten by geocaching.com.

So....I've got this cache up there that needs to be removed. Unfortunately, I live in Portland, and get to Crater Lake about once a year. Are there any geocachers in Southern Oregon willing to take a day trip and pick up this cache or move it outside of the park for me? It is located on the rim drive, so it will be unaccessable once the snows start.

If you just wanted to pick it up, you would be entitled to the ammo container and all its cool contents - which include a travel bug that needs to be set free.

If you're interested, please post a reply and I'll provide more details.
