  1. I send emails to virgin newbies for encouragement and a welcome. Seems the area is experiencing much growth in our sport and my caches are easy for newbies / handicapped cachers. Just keepin' it friendly! Ride bent.
  2. Donbadabon; Consider the recumbent bike. For the paved bike trail, it can't be beat. No wedgies, sore shoulders, neck, numb hands or sore back. You can see a LOT more and it is so much fun. Some manufacturers are making off-road versions too. They're pricey, but buying used can save you a ton. I bought mine for $500; that was 2,500 miles ago and I ride strictly crushed limestone trails. Give it a try. Ride bent.
  3. Garmin emap. Am I the only one? Also my stugents were given ole'yellers for the geocaching class I taught this summer and they had no problems. The emap is more than adequate for me, though. Can someone tell me why it is you want color? Ride bent.
  4. When did we, as a nation, become dehydrated? Is there an event or revelation I missed? "Live, love, laugh, learn, leave."
  5. Supreme Court: Took Constitution Left oilgarchy
  6. It was permanently archived because I assumed it was stolen. I think now that it was just moved by critters. Anyway it's back. Contacted homepage . . . awaiting reply.
  7. Happy Solstice everybody!! Is it possible to "un-archive" a cache? Or do I have to re-enter the cache . . .blah blah blah? Thanks.
  8. Thanks for encouraging these newbies! I wanted to stress the community aspect of the geocaching game. Your warm welcome reinforces that! They really are a great bunch of kids and deserve the opportunity to get "away from the mall" or the idiot box. Hey Turtle: Why don't YOU start a class for youngsters in KY? Nothin' to it but to do it. . .
  9. He looks like a "Garmin" to me (Magellen just doesn't roll off the tongue too well). He IS cute! You don't want to call him "Guernsey" or else people might mistake him for bovine larva.
  10. A buddy of mine has fried 2 digital compasses in his car because he left them in the vehicle in the sun, all closed up. I guess they have problems in the cold, too.
  11. I would like to extend a welcome to "Team Warriors" into the geocaching community. They are a group of middle school cachers who successfully found their 1st cache (Military Road Cache) today. Team Warriors is the first group to take my Geocaching Summer School class and they are an awesome bunch of young people. Congratulations and welcome . . . good luck!
  12. How many virtuals did you do before you quit doing virtuals? quote:Originally posted by Navdog:Hmmm, Definitely one of those five star hunts but, it must be a virtual cache. http://www.moondog3.com http://www.moondog3.com
  13. Yup, could be worse things witnessed. Might be a tad embarassing if you are with the kids, but as long as it's consensual adults, this is a free country. There are laws and the social contract that bind us together. Too bad you didn't have Fido along, your 200 lb. slobbery over-friendly St. Bernard. . .
  14. Wow! Arizona has a spectacular site. Check out the WGA @www.wi-geocaching.com
  15. I too used to be a mild mannered, average, middle aged white boy from middle America with no real interests, skills or aspirations. Then Geocaching discovered me and , well, look at me! And I keep getting younger everyday. Welcome to the game!
  16. Suggestion: Let's all turn the machines off, go for a walk in the sun or rain and wonder at it all. Let the magic back in and try again. Or not. . .
  17. A buddy got an emap as an option on a new X-terra. It was either that or a mountain bike. He chose the emap and gave it to me (yes I begged)! Been playing ever since.
  18. 101st ABN DIV. 73-6. Enlisted because Viet Nam was "over" and the benny package was sweet. Sent to Nam TDY because of critical MOS to help Marines evacuate Saigon, 28 years ago, seems like yesterday. Don't regret a thing, but would NEVER do it again. War sucks.
  19. A bike mount? Cool! Where could I find a picture & specs to see if it would fit my bike? I have a recumbent and nothing is standard, but I love my emap . . . 20. I'm looking to purchase a # of GPSr's (probably etrex yellows unless I can find a real good deal on better) for classroom purposes and was wondering if anyone knows of a source that offers discounts for quantity purchases. Cheaper by the dozen?
  21. Home Depot's new ceramic Gnome Garden Sprinklers, with timers, now only $5000!
  22. Never being good in math, for me it was never about the numbers (I mean ratings). Geocaching is very Zen, the journey IS the destination. Qualifying and quantifying can only diminish the value. The instant gratification of seeing your name on the leader board is fun, yes, but competitive and posessive. Let it go.
  23. I have been leaving small polished & inscribed "skippin' stones", each with its own destination and instructions. No results yet, but Spring is coming (right?)
  24. OK We all agree it's a bad idea. But what purpose was served? What's the point? I just can't get it. Any ideas?
