  1. I put virtuals on ignore since they aren't really caches. I just set my PQs to filter out caches that are disabled. I'd filter out caches needing maintenance too, but 1) you can't and 2) lots of owners "forget" how to clear that flag after they did maintenance.
  2. It is nice to see where my PQ ends, but those lightning bubbles are too dang distracting to make the preview usable. They're in the way of seeing cache types, and not just at that zoom level. The preview map should go back to just showing the caches you selected to show (the ones in the PQ) rather than adding an extra graphic above each cache.
  3. If you aren't worried about scratching it or getting it dirty (or broken) then cache away.
  4. Makes sense, actually. You get a unique icon for finding an APE cache but a souvenir for finding the particular APE cache in Washington. If you visit The Original Stash Tribute Plaque, you'll get a traditional cache icon (if you don't already have it), but a souvenir for finding that particular traditional cache.
  5. Just because you're friends with someone doesn't mean they can send you anything they want. In the Facebook world, people routinely block unsolicited messages sent to them by their friends (Farmville, Mafia Wars, etc). That kind of spam isn't why I signed up for an account. I don't see how your complaint relates to features of this site. If someone on facebook keeps posting things that you don't want to see, block their posts or defriend them. That's exactly what will happen to geocaching spam on Facebook. Nearly everyone will block it because they don't want status updates for every cache their friends find. What would the point of integration be then? I might have wanted to try [some Facebook game] but because I received numerous (read: spam) messages about [that game] that I decided it wasn't worth my time. Perhaps someone might want to try geocaching but because they're friends with 5 people who each find 5 caches a day the 25 daily spam messages they got turned them off before they ever got started.

  7. And yet you still want spam on Facebook. Go figure.
  8. You can meet up with friends who are caching with or without Facebook integration. Actually, without Facebook at all. If you feel you must post on Facebook, then go there and post away. To have everything you post here be copied over there seems a bit much though. If you find one cache a week it might not be so bad. I've found about 500 so far this year and we aren't quite halfway through. I know several people who find a lot more than that. Can you imagine getting status updates from 50 geocaching friends who each find a cache a day? I think that would make geocaching a very hated thing in the Facebook world.
  9. I use my real name on Facebook but a handle here. Maybe I don't want everyone on geocaching.com to know my real name. By integrating, even a little, I lose that choice.
  10. I get enough geocaching posts on Facebook from friends who went out on epic hikes or whatnot. If that was expanded to getting an update for every cache log I'd either unfriend them or block it completely.
  11. Firefox Spell Checker doesn't work in the "topic" field. I tend to make typo's there because of that... The spell checker must ignore apostrophes, too.
  12. Just because it's a virtual, doesn't mean it won't suck. The current trend in geocaching these days seems to be "Easier is better", as areas become saturated with P&Gs. Note: This is an observation/opinion, not a complaint. The P&G crowd are playing the way they want, and mostly doing so within the guidelines. I'm just pointing out that with today's trends, the chance for suckiness is high. For instance, I have a butt load of waypoints, (2000+), in a GSAK file, ready to create a virtual power trail running the length of Interstate 4. Because the highway is so wide. I'll be able to keep my linear distance from cache to cache a lot closer than 528', as I stagger them from one side of the highway to the other. If the virtuals don't have some significant restrictions such as the old "Wow" factor, I will publish these under a sock account. The irony is, there are folks who will sing my sock's praises for the creaton of such a monstrosity, celebrating the fact that they can now rack up over 2000 finds with a 4 hour round trip drive. Now that's just awesome. You wouldn't even have to get out of the car since there's no logbook to sign. Just drive by and take pictures and say you're geocaching. Real glad the site operators are moving away from anything related to the name of the site with this one.
  13. I won't get into the difference between there, their, and they're.
  14. It shows up correctly now, but I didn't change any browser settings after the OP. Strange.
  15. I've seen it lag behind by a few hours or maybe a day, but 2 months?
  16. I just went to my profile page and noticed my stat bar is way off from my actual stats. Is this related to today's website update? Anyone else experience this?
  17. What a terrible idea. Cache logs give out a wealth of information. They let future seekers know about possible issues with the cache. Perhaps the cache was relocated because of a wasp's nest but the owner hasn't done anything about updating the listing. Maybe the cache just relocated over time and the recent logs had updated coordinates. There could be any number of things in those logs that are useful to seekers. Could you imagine if everyone made their logs private and the "most recent" logs are from a year or more ago? Geocaching is not supposed to be elitist, and that's what this smells like. "You aren't my friend, so you can't see if I found these caches." It's bad enough that there are Premium Member only caches, but at least non-PMs can use a work-around to log them. Blank logs have already been allowed to "help" the smartphone cachers be anti-social, but to have invisible logs unless you're on someone's friends list? Ridiculous.
  18. Maybe if they had offered to share their donuts they wouldn't have received a citation.
  19. TFTC is there, way back in 2002, but it wasn't an acronym then.
  20. Similar thread. You already have the answer though: Bookmark their hides and create a PQ from that.
  21. what's that got to do with the OP's question? Try doing a pocket query for that distance! You will need to do multiple queries to get all of their caches, since they are spread out over such a great distance. John See my post on creating a PQ from a bookmark list earlier.
  22. A few years ago we drove out to the Pacific Northwet on a geocaching vacation. Our main goals were Champoeg, the Original Stash Tribute Plaque, and Groundspeak Headquarters. We added in several other things like visiting Ambrosia and family in SoCal. The whole trip was around 4000 miles from our home in Colorado Springs. If you look at my finds map (below) you can see a lot of the route clearly enough.
