    Fox-Hunt

The group here in Fort Wayne Indiana uses a HT on crosslink as the fox and a live person is within eye distance from it. This way the HT can be hidden in small places verses trying to hide a vehicle. The two times that I was the "FOX" I put the HT in a Zipplock bag and burried it under a concrete sign with the antenna sticking slightly out of the ground. It took the "Hunters" forever to locate were it was at. The second time I had a 20ft run of coax ran up a tree with a twin lead J-pole connected to it and the HT burried away from the tree. That one took about 4 hours for eveyone to find. All you need to "Fox Hunt" is a HT, a directional antena, an attenuator( for when you get up close to the "Fox") and a good street or toppo map of the area that you are hunting in. The most important thing to remember is to have fun while doing it, because then you loose the idea behind getting together with fellow hams that are wanting to have fun like everyone else.
  12. I know I haven't had any troubles with mine, but I also carry one of theose jumpstart batteries in my truck. If your looking for a good emergency antenna check this one out, or this version if you want it to be less difficult I have built one and it is true about talking on a repeater 2 counties away, I did it on 5 watts.
  13. You will only need the one antenna because the radio comes with a duplexer built in it to opperate on 2m and 70cm.
  14. I have an Icom IC-2800 with the crossband opption in my truck and I use it just about everyday at work. The HT that I use is the Alinco DJ-V5 with the AA battery pack on it or the Alinco DJ-G5. I haven't had any problem with my truck not starting or having a low battery but just incase I carry one of those jump start batteries. When caching we take the van, which does not have a radio with the crossband feature in it, and I am hardly out of repeater reach or cell service.

  17. Good Mornig All, With less than 14 days till the 2006 Midwest GeoBash , I was wandering if anyone is plaining to attend this Mega Event? I will be there from July 7th and camping till Sunday the 9th. If anyone is interested, I will be monitoring 146.580 simplex or if someone has a better freq, we could use as the event freq and have some while caching. Hope to see you at the event or hear you on the air.
  18. Good Evening everyone, Since we are now under 90 days to the 2006 Midwest GeoBash(GCRZZQ) , I thought that I would ask to see who might be going to this GeoCache event. I think that it would a cool idea if we could get a nigtly net going or even just a rag-chew session going. So if anyone is going and has any ideas about it, let me know and we will see what we can do. Maybe we can get some of the public envolved in it.
