Would the charge be for planting a fascimile ("fake") bomb? But yeah, I see where you and other police are coming from here. Was this cache in an open, public area, or in a woodland area? Also, were there any specific markings, or was it a blank ammo can, or a can with the standard millitary markings? Hey, I've got a question for the Aussies out there. I grew up in Pennsylvania, in the United States, but I've been thinking about moving to, and living in Australia. It's a beautiful country, neat people, and politically stable, plus there were a lot of other good things I've heard about it. But, I heard that the immigration restrictions are rather tight, and it's difficult to get citizenship or immigrate there. Is this true? Any information or suggestions would be great. Thanks, -AO

A word of warning: Some of the really low-end (read: CHEAP) Night Vision devices, ones that cost less then $200 are pretty much total junk. I got one of the low end Gen-0/1 tubes and it worked very poorly. It wasn't much better then what the naked eye would see on a dark night. I've got an idea that has been floating in my head- a commercially available Augmented Reality (AR) GPS system. What is AR? AR is like VR (Virtual Reality) but in a real environment. Imagine looking in a crowd wearing a translucent AR display and a person is highlighted and a name and information pops up. Or as you are walking down the street, the address you are looking for is pointed out. That's AR- Augmented Reality. THE LAYOUT A more modern AR system would not be terribly goofy-looking or obtrustive. Over one (or both?) eyes would be a translucent color LCD display. Along the attachment for the display would be a GPS antenna. On both sides of the head there would be mounted two small digital video cameras. (The diameter of a Sharpie and half the length.) In either a backpack or holdster would be a power supply (lithium-Ion/Polymer battery or a fuel cell) and specialized computer. INPUT There would be four different types of input into the device. First, would be the GPS antenna for position. Second, would be the two side cameras. Third, would be an attached microphone close to the display(s). Forth, would be a cellular telephone link. OUTPUT There would be three different types of output from the device. First would be the one or two "over-eye" displays. Second would be a small speaker. Third would be a cellular telephone link. PROCESSING Processing data is key for the AR system. There are a few things the unit could do. First, it could take GPS data and give the user's position on a standard overlay map. Second, it could take a combination of the camera input, and the GPS location, and on-board data and create a "virtualized" area. Using the stereo image from the two cameras, the computer could isolate and gather the information about the dimensions of an object the user is looking at. Comparing that information to an onboard database, it could identify various objects, locations, and even people. There are many possible applications for this kind of technology, from the Millitary Land Warrior system (a prototype AR) to a high-end hands-free GPS unit. The possibilities and applications are endless with AR, and when combined with GPS would be a powerful tool. Hey, has anyone else noticed pretty bad latencies on the web site lately? I'm talking about delays of 30 seconds for pages to load, or pages timing-out. Hopefully it's just something closer to my end, or it's just a hiccup. -AO

Has anyone gotten the immunzation for Lyme disease? I saw some information on the net- there is a shot, an immunization for it. Not sure how expensive it is, or how long it works, or how well it works...

I noticed that some of the newer GPS units have a larger library of icons to use. I also noticed that the most recent upgrade to the garmin III added about 4 new icons. So, is there any way to add additional icons to the Garmin 3? There are more icons listed on Easy GPS then are available in the III. Thanks.

Ah yes, the giant puffballs are quite edible. As for those bolettes... what did they look like on the under-side? I'm actually planning to use a GPS system for a mushroom-hunting project this spring. I want to map the locations where I find mushrooms, and chart these on a computer, looking for areas of higher rates of occourance. Then I want to overlay that information on a topographical map to show the "hot" areas and look for patterns in the terrain.
