this brings up a question i had. if i hide a cache and the FTF on the paper is not that same as logged on the site...then who do i proclaim FTF on my website? you know how most pages will say "congrats to _____ for FTF" or "________ was FTF" at the end of the description?

same here! i have a lot of friends that have been into geocaching longer than i have and they are always asking to see pictures...but i don't have any

i haven't been putting any bugs out yet but i have thought about how that would suck to be the owner and just watch it sit there all the time so i looked up some caches in my area that have bugs and checked the "last visited" date on them. if it's been a while i've been making note and will try to venture out to them sometime soon.

i am new to geocaching and wanted to take a lot of pics when i first went out. mostly just b/c i was excited and wanted to show all my friends what i was doing. i didn't know if it would be ok to post pics in my logs but on the site and on the apps it does notify people that there are possible "spoilers" in the logs...so to read at their own risk. i only read logs if i am stuck and need an extra hint or clue or i wait until after i have found the cache and am posting my own log. i have been posting my pics on facebook in a Geocaching album but i wouldn't post them on the logs just b/c i wouldn't want to spoil anything for someone that came across the pics by accident. n

Welll I use a Paperless GPS and I get all the info you mentioned on my Delorme PN-60 I don't always use it but its there for the tough ones. I use to use a Garmin personal 12 and I just kept a note book with the hints and other info I will say this your phone may be just as good but are you willing to drop it on some rocky trail, muddy area, or a creek? If you want to keep using it get a pelican case for it. Tim2 I'll have to look up the Delorme. I haven't heard of that one yet. I was using the GPS to find the location and then i would get out my phone and look up descriptions and things. I had a death grip on my phone the whole time. I didn't want to drop it. Haha. That's why I would love to get a nice GPS with all the info on it.

and what GPS was that? it was a Garmin eTrex Venture. i was just trying it out so i didn't go crazy with it. i don't know if there is a way to get all the info on a cache onto that type of GPS. i did like using it though. I was thinking about getting the Magellan eXplorist that is exclusively for geocaching.

as a newbie i hope this isn't a dumb question. i have been geocaching for only a week now and have been using the geocaching app for my iphone. today a friend let me borrow their gps to see if i liked it. i liked the accuracy of the gps but when i use my iphone i can see the size and hints and descriptions of the cache. i can't imagine how people can just walk up to a location and not know what they are looking for! haha. maybe you just get better with time...but when you are using a gps device...do most people write down the info for the cache or do they just go in blind and start looking?

i also have a channel and took some video today. it was my first full day out and so i didn't know what was ok to put up in videos. i agree that we shouldn't show the place they are hidden but think it would be fun to show unique caches that we find and also the contents. i'll be checking back on this thread to hear the verdict from some veteran seekers

I had never heard of geocaching until 3 days ago. I was talking to a friend and they told me what they were doing so I started to google it and came across this site and overnight I was hooked. The next day at work I was discussing it with a coworker and she was a geocacher so after work we hopped into a car and went out on the hunt. It was my first night of searching and I was so excited! We were bundled up in the cold with our flashlights when the police pulled up. "Are you two doing ok?" the officer asked. My friend started to explain but the officer stopped her because he already knew all about it. He wished us luck and drove off. Does this happen often? I wouldn't be surprise. Especially if we continue to search at night. The next day I was looking around at our local movie theater with my dad when the owner of the theater walked out into the parking lot and said, "Are you two looking for that magnet thing?" Haha. He told us that a lot of people have been searching and so he knew exactly where it was. After that he told us that there was a news crew inside doing a story on the theater. The building had been damaged by hurricane Irene and has been closed for a while. He said the newswoman wanted to interview locals to see how people felt about not having a theater so we told him we would do it! Only 2 days in with my geocaching and the police and the news have been involved! this rocks!
