  1. I use the aerial images on LOSTOUTDOORS.COM and MS TERRASERVER quite often, not only for GPS activities, but for other research uses. Most of the images are from 1998 or so. Does anyone know of any location to get more recent aerial images?
  2. Oh no you don't! I am the one who found it FIRST! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40? 07.874'N 88? 11.647'W
  3. Where can a person download GPX VIEW for the Pocket PC? M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40? 07.874'N 88? 11.647'W
  4. I uses a site called TEST DRIVE EAGLE located at http://geocode.com/modules.php?name=TestDrive_Eagle Comes in very handy for converting addresses for assistance in finding them withthe GPS and seems to be more accurate than the locations some mapping programs will give you for an address. Some programs list my home as a couple blocks away from its actual location!! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40? 07.874'N 88? 11.647'W
  5. The show IS great. Maybe we can make some of their "locations" as caches? Back to the home sharing idea, we could make the idea itself a cache (similar to an event cache) and you could get credit for the find when you share your home with another cacher. 6. Although many of the traditional caches are difficult for a person in a wheelchair, we found there are many other forms of geo-caching that can be entertaining for the wheelchair bound cacher. My wife and I, although not wheelchair bound, are limited in mobility and have fun finding many caches properly rated. But a relative who IS wheelchair bound had a lot of fun with a number of solutions... 1. As previously mentioned, have the wheelchair bound person operate the GPS and/or papers as close as they can get. 2. Locationless caches, especially the ones involving actual coordinates in a math puzzle, can be easy to accomplish. 3. Benchmark hunting often can be easily accessed. 4. Recording coordinates of local points of interest, or interesting graves in a cemetery. A little imagination can go a long way to help a restricted person become involved. Good luck in all your efforts! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40? 07.874'N 88? 11.647'W
  7. This summer I was vacationing at a lake in Northern Wisconsin on property my father-in-law owns. He has reclaimed the 40 acres from what was a cow pasture 30 years ago to a forest once again. He spends a lot of time in the woods and loves to track his progress. I took a series of 36 pictures to document his woods. After recently acquiring Adobe Photoshop Elements, there is a feature in it called photomerge which helps to stitch together photos for panoramas. So I have taken those 36 images and created one out of if. I still have some touching up to do, but the plan is to have this printed and framed as a Christmas present for him. The software is realtively easy to use. My only real critique would be if it helped in blending different shading and lighting issues. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40 07.874'N 88 11.647'W
  8. We will be in the Springfield area this Sunday noon time, Monday evening and all day Wednesday, but due to other obligations we will be busy the whole time. So we will make sure to leave a psychic impression to leave behind. hehehehe M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40 07.874'N 88 11.647'W
  9. While on vacation this summer in Northern Wisconsin I learned from my father-in-law (to be) that the bark from Birch trees is long lasting and takes forever to rot. He says the dead tree inside the bark rots away and leaves the outside. He had a nice sized piece that I thought would make a great cammo for a cache the shape of a coffe can or sorts. When I get the time to put one together I will have to get some pictures posted. I think it will make a great way to hide the cache. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40 07.874'N 88 11.647'W
  10. I have found that some unused mousepads along with velcro can work pretty good. You can cut the mouse pad to whatever size you like. It will not slide on the dash. And if you stick one part of the velcro to it, then the GPS stays put and you do not have to worry about something being stuck directly to the dash. 13. I haven't used Delorme XMap software. I currently use Nav Companion and Quo Vadis. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  14. I (MrSki) am 43. Dogma is claiming 38. And Buster the Wonder dog is somewhere around 10 or 11. But after a busy day in the woods, we ALL feel 80! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  15. I have an older Visor (Palm OS 3.0) and a Magellan Companion and have been very happy with its performance and accuracy. My only complaint has been the fact that I have not been able to find software that will allow for the importing and exprting of usable waypoints for the mapping and tracking software as well as the ability to download waypoints to keep track of tracking routes. But I am sure there will be something available some day! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  16. Phantom, Don't feel too bad. I am also one of those people who loves snow and prays for an early winter, against the popular consensus. I have never been a summer fan unless it was a cool summer. Sweating and suffocation are not my cup of tea. hehehehe I am looking forward to doing a variety of Geo-Caches and other Geo activities this fall and winter. What a great way to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  18. Just let me know what time dinner will be! hehehehe I think I am going to make the Kielbasa Soup this weekend. It will make good leftovers easily stored away when I leave for vacation at the end of next week. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  19. Now that looks like a recipe that would appeal to a good 'ol pollack like me. Will have to try it sometime. Thanks! M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  20. Stargazer, Again, I have been thinking of placing a cache with store coupons of all types (groceries, fast food, automotive, etc...) Seems you always have more than you need while others could possibly use them. We would need to clean it out regularly for outdated coupons. But I think it would be an interesting trade item in an urban area. May have to think about this some more. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  22. Stitches, I am a kitchen gadget freak as well. I was thinking of hiding a kitchen gadget cache with a twist. It would have a variety of kitchen gadgets in it, but also in the logs, people could leave requests for what they may be looking for. If a person has one of the needed items, they can post it to the cache and the person who wanted it would be able to return to the cache to retrieve the item. Hopefully this would help people out as well as keeping a well rotated stock of items in the cache. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W

  24. Now if we could just get Magellan to create some software that supported uplinking tracks to or from the Visor I would be happy! All this cool software and no way to easily use the track info. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
  25. I just LOVED the idea of that cache. And the recipes you collected look great. I will definitely be trying some of them. I would like to borrow that idea for a cache of my own sometime. M-D-M Explorations MrSki and DogMa 40º 07.874'N 88º 11.647'W
