  1. I only have "Add to list, personal note, share" and the "add to list." HOWEVER, thanks to this post, I did just notice that at the very bottom of the cache info page there is a "report problem with this geocache" where you can request maintenance or archiving! So one down!
  2. I just wanted to check on a few things that as far as I can tell can't be done on the mobile (iPhone) app to see if I'm just missing something: Put caches on the ignore list Put caches on the watch list Report that a cache needs maintenance Also, related question: So whenever I have a DNF, I'd like to get notifications if someone else logs it so I can see if it's back in service, etc. I'm guessing the "watch list" would do just that. Via the app, since I can't see a way to add to the watch list, I made a custom "DNF" list, but I son't see a way to get notifications of any logs on the caches I put on this list either. I know there's the option to "open in browser" but that doesn't count as being able to do it in the mobile app.
  3. Cerberus had it. I had totally forgotten that the "incorrect" stats were being generated by mygeocachingprofile.com where I hadn't uploaded my latest data.
  4. Oh wow! I had totally forgotten about mygeocachingprofile.com! Thanks, I'll investigate.
  5. Sorry, no it doesn't say that anywhere, I was just specifying, that I know each of the 160 is "unique" as I've never revisited any old caches or anything.
  6. I have 160 finds, all unique yet on my profile page it says "Total Caches 135 (135 distinct caches)." Huh? What does that mean? The only thing I can think of is that maybe 25 caches I found in the past no longer exist or something?
  7. Sounds totally reasonable. I've always done a little caching over the years but only recently picked it back up with a fervor so it was just a shock when like out my first 5 attempts around my new neighborhood, there were 4 DNFs. And it's not uncommon for the last log to be a month or two old, so I'm still getting a feel for the current Geocaching "norm."
  8. Hey everyone! I've just recently picked geocaching back up after doing quite a bit back on 2002 and the following years. Interestingly, I've had a LOT more DNFs than I am used to getting and I was just wondering if this was simply me being rusty, a bad run of luck, or if, in general, with the expanding popularity of Geocaching there were just more people who place caches but don't really maintain or check on them. So many dang Micros these days!
  9. I'm no programmer, so this may be way more complicated than I know, but it seemed to me that enabling the current Geocaching app to also be able to handle Waymarking wouldn't be too terribly hard. I personally would prefer a unified app with different sections or something like that than two separate apps. Of course, any app would be great! Thanks! (Wasn't sure which forum was the most appropriate)
  10. I use my Palm Vx with a Magellan GPS Companion. I highly recommend checking out GeoNiche. I've tried out CacheMate and CacheNav as well, but I personally prefer GeoNiche by a long shot. Of course it's also something like $24 for the registered version, but to me it was well worth it.
  11. Oh I didn't mean I wouldn't get one at all, I meant I would get one, but instead of worrying how to get it GPS ready and worry about taking it through woods and such, I would just relegate my old Palm Vx to be my dedicated Geocaching unit. ...and what is this that you speak of coming after the treo 650? Need details!
  12. Maybe I'll just keep my Palm Vx to use as my Geocaching PDA since I already have the GPS for it, and then I won't have to risk dropping my treo (if I get one). Argh! Decisions! After buying Cachemate, I'll definitely be sticking with GeoNiche. Don't get me wrong, CacheMate and CacheNav are dadgum fine products (even though I'm sticking with GeoNiche, I still paid for CacheMate just to support the Geocaching community since $8 isn't really a big deal), but they just don't have anything close to the customizability and nice "all-in-one" smoothness of GeoNiche. I'm leaving them installed though, just for fun.
  13. I used ti Geocache a lo, but haven't done it for a while now. I have an etrex but really enjoyed using my Palm Vx with it's GPS attachment and GeoNiche software when Geocaching. I'm now considering getting a Treo 650, but wanted to see what my options were for Geocaching with it. 1. From what I've read, it looks like I would need to shell out about $200+ for an SD GPS attachment? 2. I seem to be reading a lot about CacheNav and CacheMate and was wondering if these are better than GeoNiche somehow (I really liked GeoNiche) 3. Should I even bother or just use the old yellow etrex I also own? I liked the GeoNiche interface and options better, and the ability to have notes, clues, etc. right there with me on the palm. It was also nice to be able to transfer waypoints directly from geocaching.com to the palm with the EasyNiche.jar which came with GeoNiche. Any opinions are greatly appreciated!
  14. I used mine on a day of caching in Austin (found 10 caches) and I loved it. I do indeed use Geoniche which I find absolutely fantastic. Totally customizable and way better than the Magellan software. I also find (with Geoniche anyway) that my palm seems insanely accurate. Many times when I want to check coords I go out with my Palm Vx, an Etrex, and an Etrex legend. The 2 Etrexes seems to fluctuate a lot more than my Companion. When finding coords it seems to be totally consistent, in that no matter how many times I walk away, the coords always lead me back to the exact same spot. Also when taking coords, the first 3 decimal places seem to remain pretty constant, even when I walk away and come back to the same spot. The 4th and 5th decimal place fluctuate, but the first 3 seem to be pretty solid. with Geoniche it's also nice because even if you're standing in the same spot, it's constantly averaging the last 10 coords that it's received. I keep thinking that it just can't be as accurate as it seems, but again, when looking for caches, it always brings me back to pretty much the exact same spot, not just "close". I haven't experienced any of the probs you have, and I hope I don't! Suffice to say, I couldn't be happier with mine.

  16. Is this out yet? I can only find 1.0. I liked it so much I registered it! Also, is it possible to add a battery meter for the Magellan GPS companion? I found thius was the ONLY feature of NavCompanion that I missed when it was gone. [This message was edited by Heath and Jess on May 07, 2002 at 05:34 AM.]

  18. The cleaning people threw away my activation codes for my 2 travelbugs, and I have emailed the address that says "email us if you need your activation code" twice asking for them but have received no response to my emails. Does anyone have any idea how I can get my activation codes?
  19. I am highly impressed. So deeply configurable. It totally blows NavCompanion away! Sorry to those who can't use it, I'm not trying to rub it in, I promise!

  21. I'll give it a shot! Admittedly I haven't been real impressed with Navcompanion or MapCompanion. Especially MapCompanion since as far as I can see there's no way to put in coords to show a geocache on the map, and the lack of a nice graphic interface on NavCompanion is kind of annoying too. They get the job done but seem kinda clumsy. I'm extremely underwhelmed by MapCompanion. The street names are hard to read, and by the time you're zoomed in close enough to see them you can't see much of the surrounding area so you have to scroll around a lot.
  22. So I just got my palm Vx with the Magellan GPS companion, and I noticed that when I enter coords for waypoints, many times it will subtract 1 from my coords. Like if I put 30 14.366, it will change it to 30 14.365. anyone else encounter this or know what the deal is?
  23. I just got agreat deal on ebay for a Palm Vx plus a bunch of accessories including the Magellan companion GPS for it. does anyone have experience or opinions on this unit? Thanks!
