  1. I drove from Rochester N.Y., to Pueblo Co., with my wife, four kids, and a dog. I ended up with about 5000 miles on my truck when we got back.

We had a great time, but next time I think we will fly. Thats only if I can convince my wife to step onto the airplane. Anyways we found four

caches in the great state of Colorado. Wish we could have found more on our vacation, but we are happy with the caches we did find. icon_biggrin.gif

there are other sites but you will be doing a lot more driving if you use 'their' services. Closes cache from my home on 'their' site is 100miles away. From this site I think its like a half a mile.

It is a nice back up for those that list their caches on both sites. We do, just for this reason. Some people just use one site, and others use both. Maybe there would be more on the other if everyone listed their cache there as well. Then you won't have to drive so far, as you say. I don't think you have to drive anywhere to USE the site, though. You can chat, instant message, and obtain alot of useful information on the forums right from your living room. icon_cool.gif

So if either site ever went down, you will always have a place to list your cache. icon_eek.gif

  6. Our family learned all about goecaching on the "other site". We found a lot of caches and even hid a few before Upinyachit knew about this one.

Since we learned all about caching on the other site and that was all we knew, we were hooked. Then we received an email informing us about this site. Now we are members of both geocaching websites and really really hooked! We like them both and have a lot of fun, too!

This site seems to have a lot more members and some very interesting topics on the forums. I wonder why there isn't more posts and replies on the forums over there? icon_confused.gif

  11. The last time I went on a cache was 9-02-2002.

    (Gypsum Mine) http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=8342

I took the travel bug and made a note that I would be placing the travel bug in a cache soon. As you can tell, it's been almost a month, and we still have the travel bug. I'm not to sure what the difference is between an excuse or a reason, but I have plenty.

After doing this cache, the next day my truck broke down. I'm sure it had something to do with the 5,500 hundred miles we put on it going on vacation. Anyways, we managed to get it fixed after a pretty penny, and a lot of LOVE from my mother-n-law! LOL She agreed to loan us the money if I agreed to do some work for her. So after spending all of my freetime after work and a couple weekends building her a deck, I finally got my balance with my mother-n-law back to zero. icon_biggrin.gif Just the way I like it.

Casey is just dying to go find a cache. After all, this is the longest span Upinyachit has gone without finding a cache since we started back in March. So now it looks like I'm all set to go caching with the kids this weekend and have a great time.

    WRONG!

Unfortunately, Casey and the rest of the family is going to have to wait a little bit longer now. icon_mad.gif I joined a softball league and our second game was last night. As I was running to first base, I pulled my hamstring. The pain was and still is intense. I can't even walk, and will have to take time off of work. This isn't what I needed. Talk about bad luck. I'm sure I will get through this, and will be going on a cache soon. Until my leg heels, I guess I will just hang out on the forums! icon_smile.gif

  13. If Candie and I were new to geocaching and read a quote like this........

    quote:
it seems that the natural life of a cache will end with it either being vandalized or stolen.

We would probably get discouraged. icon_frown.gif

Of course we haven't had any negative logs from any of our caches, and I'm sure that's why the kids and us have positive attitudes. We have said before in previous posts, the kids and us love it when a member from either site logs a find. Just today, my youngest son Casey got home from school, and went to the computer to see how his cache was doing.

    http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=27486

Sure enough, his cache was found today. The kid was so excited, he called his grandma and told her all about. Now he can't wait for school tomorrow, so he can tell his friends and teachers all about it.

Upinyachit will always promote geocaching! If a cache is taken or vandalized, don't get discouraged. It certainly isn't going to be the end of geocaching, that's for sure.

Runaround, if you happen to read the original question,

    quote:
I was thinking of making a notation in the log to smile, I may be watching. Probably not a good idea...people may think a freak is hiding in the trees stalking them. Whatta ya' think?
The member clearly asked "WHATTA YA' THINK?" We did just that; we told the member what WE think.

    quote:
2 messages later this has suddenly become a case of cyber-stalking with a web cam or telescope when neither was mentioned originally? I don't see how you got from point A to point B.

When a fellow geocacher states "I may be watching", it doesn't matter how the member may be watching; a telescope, webcam or binoculars. We simply wouldn't like it. There are enough cameras out there already watching our every move. When we go on a cache, we want to relax, enjoy the scenery, use our gps, and bring OUR family closer together.

We understand a fellow geocacher wanting to meet or see fellow geocachers looking for their cache.

It would probably be funny, who knows! We don't think someone would "stalk" us, as you say. Meeting other geocachers is way cool. We just don't want to follow our gps to their front door! icon_eek.gif

We feel that there is a proper place to meet other cachers. The geocaching picnic in Rochester, NY back in June, for example. The kids and us enjoyed meeting all the local geocachers. We can now place faces with names. icon_wink.gif

If someone wants to place a cache with a web cam or to watch them by their home, then go for it. Just make sure that you list it on your cache page and give other geocachers the choice of whether or not they want to be watched.

We personally do not like the idea of being watched. We went on a cache almost a hundred miles from home round trip and got there to find it was right next to someone's home. We turned around and went home, without a find. So what.

  20. If we were seeking a cache and had a speculation that we were being watched, we simply would not go look for it. For a geocacher to place a telescope or a webcam just waiting for someone to find their cache and watching their every move is a little wierd!

    quote:
I may even get lucky and see when someone is searching for it.

Are you for real? That is creepy! icon_eek.gif

Upinyachit thinks it's all about the find and NOT what's in the cache. Of course we like it when a cache is loaded with goodies, but one should never expect it. That way, we are never ever disappointed, don't matter what's inside the cache, just as long as we find it. The cache could only have a log book and we still would be happy.

We can understand wanting to meet fellow geocachers, but maybe you could attend the closest geocaching picnic. icon_rolleyes.gif

  22. Candie and I hid our "DOG CHOW" cache the first couple of months into geocaching. We put dog bones, and treats, etc. in baggies for the dogs that came with their owners.

We haven't had any problems with wildlife so far, but now that we know more, we wouldn't put food in a cache again. It would be too risky; especially come fall and winter when the wild life are really into finding food.

As far as the mustard fish? Gross! Someone couldn't have left that thinking someone would actually eat it!!! Human food is ridiculous to leave; who is really going to trust that from someone they don't even know! icon_eek.gif
