  1. I have just started a Land Navigation page with general information on compasses/maps/and gps receivers. I would like your opinion on it and how can I clear up and ambiguities (unclear spots) in the text. Anything to add? Or change? Land Navigation Any experienced (or not so experience) orienteers/navigators/travellers that could give me any feedback at all on this page? I would like to make it as clear as possible so any suggestions will be taken into consideration. Is it clear? Particually the part about the declination? Thanks. --Ricky Cobb [This message was edited by arcadesdude on March 17, 2003 at 04:05 PM.]
  2. Go here: http://216.202.195.127/cachesimple.html I searched google with the terms: cache page simplifier and got a bunch of french results so I clicked English Results Only and this page came up: Fuzzy's Geocaching Page o' Wonders http://216.202.195.127/ On that page was the link to the cache simplifier. --Ricky Cobb
  3. You can also do it by downloading your data from your GPS into G7ToWIN (GPS -> Download -> All) G7ToWin http://home.attbi.com/~g7towin/ and then saving as cvs. Then MS S&T can inport that data easily. G7ToWin can also save in a lot of other formats as well... --Ricky Cobb

I think it's about 6' high! quote:Originally posted by Sluggo:I guess Dr. Wease didn't grow up poor in the deep south. Maybe she should change over to the study of poverty science and help poor people find thaose "other non-toxic plants out there" that they can eat for free. Anything in moderation is ok, I'm sure a small amount of the leaves properly cooked (keyword) would not hurt since many have eaten it traditionally. I wonder what it tastes like. The one article mentions it's eaten like spinage (yuk!) but it's called 'salad'... --Ricky Cobb
  8. I'm pretty sure that's the plant in the picture. Good job on the ID. I didn't know you could use the seeds/berries for ink that's interesting. For a weed it looks aestheticly pleasing enough. quote:Originally posted by Planet:DON'T EAT IT!!!!!!!!! That's good advice for any plant you can't absolutely be sure is safe to eat Thanks again for figuring out what kind of plant it is! --Ricky Cobb
  9. Yes the picture is the plant I'm trying to identify. "or of what you know the the plant is not? " I think you mean try to identify the plant by process of elimination. Any way to identify this plant would be acceptable, it's interesting because it's different from all the plants around it and so it "stands out". --Ricky Cobb
  10. Sorry, I suppose I've caught that "UScentricity bug" You are correct the plant is in the north eastern United States -- Tuckahoe, Maryland USA to be exact. It's fall here now. I don't think it is mulberry because the way the berries on this plant go out from the central part and the trunk of the tree/bush is completly reddish in color, a great contrast to the green and brown nearby it of other plants. --Ricky Cobb
  11. I saw this one on my way to a cache (which is so well hidden I didn't find it and wondered what it is called. I would guess 'blackberry' from the black berries but now that I've done a google image search for "blackberry plant" I'm pretty sure it is not that at all. So what is it? Description: Red "trunk" and "branches" on a bushlike plant with long cylindrical berries on it. Picture: (Picture (81k) is at a slow server at: http://geocaching.port5.com/images/blackberry.jpg ) --Ricky Cobb

  17. I think freedom of choice is paramount, so I would report the same cache to both sites and let users choose which site they wish. If nothing else you get a choice. As for logging finds, I would log the book and then both sites as 1 find total for each cache. --Ricky Cobb

  19. It's good practice to close tags that have closing tags so you don't break validation. I'm pretty sure tags need a closing tag though... http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/struct/text.html#h-9.3.1 "9.3.1 Paragraphs: the P element Start tag: required, End tag: optional" Nope I'm wrong. Thanks for pointing that out CreagerStone. I know li tags do not need an end tag. --Ricky Cobb
  20. The tag makes text appear like these paragraphs here. And this one here. The text within it is formatted like ApK says; you can have the text alignment changed etc. Text with the tag is like this Text here. When the text is in a paragraph tag and the windows is resized (or you using a low resolution). The text would look like this in a window that has been resized with the tag. With the tag the text is still resized but it might look like this: The text here used the tag after the word 'used' which might cause the text to look choppy in low resolutions or small windows. --Ricky Cobb

  22. Word uses its own format for formatting text. For cache logs, if you try to import (copy and paste) directly from Word, you will find that the characters are "messed up" and show up as "boxes" (or other characters, the 'S' like character in this case) where there should have been special characters such as bullets. On the cache submission form ( http://www.geocaching.com/hide/report.asp ) it states: "Details You can use HTML in any of the description fields below. Before the cache is posted on the site it will be checked by a member of the Geocaching team." HTML is how you can put bullets into your cache description. A bulleted list in HTML would look like this: <ul>[*]Item 1[*]Item 2[*]Item 3...</ul> That is the code for the bulleted list. It would look like this (if the ubb code gets translated correctly): Item 1 Item 2 Item 3... You can edit your cache description and be sure to check the box "Yes. I am supplying the HTML." on the cache report form. Then use the UL (unordered list) and LI (list item) HTML tags to make the list bulleted. You could also use the (break) tag (or for paragraph tag) to go to a new line to make the description easier to read. (BR does not use and end tag P does) I hope this helps! --Ricky Cobb
  23. If you have a compass read this. If you don't, or even if you do, read this. --Ricky Cobb
