  1. Thank you JBnW the pictures are great and helpfull. The screen on my 62s look nothing like yours, especially the screen shotsfrom the GpsFiledepot topo map. How do you manage to get the colors you display, especially the bright vivid yellows, reds and blues? Are those colors a product of the maps or are you selecting them on your unit? I will admit that I because I new to the 62s I may be missing something.
  2. The Topo map I am dealing with is the Pennsylvania Topo from Gpsfiledepot and I am not actually having a problem with it. I guess I just expected to see more detail after I enabled both maps, that is why I also asked the question about Garmins 24 k topo.
  3. I have a Garmin 62S with the Garmin base map that came with the unit and I also downloaded a free Topo Map from Gpsfiledepot. I am somewhat happy with the result's but I am not sure of what I am actually seeing. I have both maps enabled on the GPS and my question is, does the Topo map overlay over the basemap and am I actually seeing both maps? My other question is, how much better is the 24K Topo map that Garmin is selling for close to $100.00? Has anyone compared the Gpsfiledepot free map to Garmin's 24K map that they have for sale? I sure would like to see a picture of that 24K Topo map on a 62S if anyone has one available.
  4. The speed is not correct, the tracking had been turned off,and my unit is running on 3.90 software. I need to try a few more things .
  5. I find this all very interesting. I have a Gpsmap 62s and it does the very same thing. I have been trying for weeks to get rid of that @&$&@&$ straight line and I haven't found an easy solution yet. I had my home as a waypoint at one time and I drove my car about 20 miles to another location to hike. When I turned on my gps there was a line from my house to my new location that I had to look at all day. I hope someone can come up with a solution.
  6. I am looking at a used Garmin GPSMAP60 that I can get for a fair price. I know that it does not have a lot ao features and it was the lowest price of the map60 line. I would like anyone that has any experience with the unit, good or bad, let me know your thoughts. I only have experience with the Blue Etrex Legend but it does not work to good under cover.
  7. Has anyone found a protective cover for the screen on a 62s that they really like and is not to much trouble to install? I have been lucky so far but do not want to press my luck. Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.
  8. Which MAHA charger for occasional use and simple operation. I dont need or want the 9000 model.
  9. I also have a 62S and I am thinking about getting a good recharger. Only problem is, I dont know good from bad when it comes to selecting a "Good Charger". Can some one help me out. What I really want to know is the best combination of battery and charger.
  10. My new Garmin 62s manual talks about "my dashboard" can someone help me out with that? New gps term for me. What are they talking about?
  11. OK, I understand all of that and everything said so far is very true. I am looking for better reception under cover. I guess what I need to know is which is the better antenna.
  12. I need to select one of the Garmin's listed, Etrex 30, Oregon 450, or 62S. I do not do Geocaching, what I do is spend a lot of time in the woods with heavy cover and get lost. I need a GPS to replace my old etrex that got lost more than I did (no signal). Help me out with this selection problem.
  13. I have decided to up grade my GPS that is used mostly for hunting and some Geocatching. I think I have decided on the Etrex 20 but I am on the fence about going to the 30 to get Electronic Compass. It is about a $100.00 up grade. I dont like taking a few steps, sometimes a lot of steps when under cover, for the unit to decide which way I should be going. Is there a way of getting around that problem?
