  1. Maybe I am wrong but I thought it was the Vista csx that had the inacurate odometer, unless its the Media Teck.chipset in general.
  2. Dont get your hopes up,if those trails arent in the right place they might as well not be there, and my experiance has shown they usually arent.
  3. 4.10 seems to have been around for awhile on the newer units even though its not a downloadable version,so its not just your unit, and so I doubt its an incorrect version,I am actually supprised no one has called Garmin about it yet.Possibly it indicates some internal hardware changes.OK sent an email to Garmin about V4.00 and V4.10,hopefully hear back soon and Ill post their reply.
  4. Maybe your compass is turned off.If you press and hold the page button down you will turn off the compass, press and hold the page button down again. If I remember correctly powering on/off does not reset the compass,if that does not work then I guess its broken. If the compass is off you still see the screen ,but no arrow and the compass ring does not move and has no numbers around its dial. Just word of caution ,if in the woods make sure you have a good real compass for a double check if things dont seem right, which happens alot with that electronic compass! Sorry ,maybe you already know about the page button. The other thing is ,is the compass in your page sequence setup,if not you wont see it when you cycle through the pages.
  5. This unit is in mint condition and although it cannot store maps ,it does have a map screen that will allow you to walk right to a geo-cache just like the new units do,its a good stater unit ,or good for a child and it's just as accuate as any other 12 channel unit less WAAS,complete with case and mannual,if interested ,make me an offer.I live in the Vancouver B.C. area
  6. My understanding and observations have always been that the electronic compass needs to be calibrated every time you use it.Since I use mine mostly for hiking I always have a real compass as well.I have seen the electronic one read incorrect many times if not callibrated recently,so I will always check it against my real compass.A real compass is rarely wrong. The bearing to a waypoint calculated by the GPS has never been incorrect for me.As far as using true or magnetic settings go,it wont make any differance just using a GPS alone. The red arrow will always point to your destination/cache if working correctly. Those settings are important when working with gps, real compass and paper maps together,or conversing directions with someone else. When nearing a cache I will take a bearing at about 10-20 m away with my real compass and estimate the cache location with that and the distance figure off the gps .
  7. I wasnt able to find any older versions on the web, except you can still get 6.11.5 from Garmins site,so I saved that one.Ill just reload then Ill have 6.13.7.I should of been saving them all along with my unit software.I dont find any problem running 6.13.7.Ill search for the others in a few days, all the links I found seem broken now.I read that 6.14.1 was no good.Thx again for your help.
  8. OK thanks ,I'll check back latter.I have kept a few software versions for my GPS,but I guess I never thought about Mapsource.Thx.
  9. Is it possible to revert mapsource to an older version, without reloading my maps all over again.I had V6.1.3.7. and then upgraded to the latest V6.1.5.7. so I could view the new Topo Canada DVD V4 on mapsource ,but their are some changes to mapsource I dont like.Contours and printing look almost fuzzy and not as dark as before, dont seem to be able to turn off terrain shading, before their was seamless integration between Topo USA 2008 and Topo USA National parks west and now its one or the other, cant say Topo Canada V4 was a whole lot better than V2 other than terrain shading or DEM.Even Bluechart looks different.Anyone know what version of mapsource was required to show Topo Canada V4.I dont see any old versions at Garmin.Thx
  10. Watch this, doesnt seem like there are lots of newer military units around. Commercial ones have their limitations in warfare, but are cetainly more compact,do you really want a bigger bulkier unit just to get more accuracy for geocaching?Isnt geocaching supposed to be a game?If I can walk right to the cache every time and find it as if it were in the open in a bright red box,its going to get boring pretty quick. As far as reception goes I rarely have a problem with my unit.
  11. Even though tides come on the bluechart cd rom, they still have to be selected seperately on your mapsource .Select your tides for the areas you want ,select your unlocked bluechart area, select any other map areas such as topo or city navigator and then send them to your gps.The tide stations will show up on maps even with bluechart turned off.
  12. If you have them both in mapsource ,try loading them both into your gps and then you just have to go into the map setup screen to turn off Blue chart to view your City Navigator, turn Blue chart back on when you want to view it.Blue chart is probably overiding your City Navigator ,it overides my topo maps that way.
  13. Can someone tell me if the 4 Gig Micro SDHC data cards work in a Garmin 60csx/76csx series,or do I need a non high capacity card, also with ver.4.00 software can you load up a 4 Gig card to capacity,ie more than the 2500 map sets?Thx.
  14. Thanks guys ,there also seems to be a few more tide stations in some areas, but a few less in others than in my 2008.5 version of Blue Chart,I'll just load them both up.
  15. Wow ! Guess I was wrong .Where did you get all those?Wish I'd known that before.
  16. Icdgirl,My 76csx came with Americas Marine Point Data Base on it,and I dont recall seeing many Canadian tide stations on that, maybe a few but not many.I have since purchased the blue chart cd to also get Canadian tide charts,I have lots now,and because that cd is now disscontinued, and will soon be only available as a chip.Which means you cant view any of it on a computer. If you are interested in this cd try gpscentral.ca in Calgary.I have bought lots from them and they have better prices than anyplace in the Vancouver area.As another alternative Canadian tide charts are free online and you can print them out,but I dont think you'll get them from Garmin for free.
  17. Go into setup, then system, then push menu once, scroll down to software version, push enter.
  18. If I were you I would get the 60 csx,If you do a search on here you can see some screen samples side by side, the 60 has the best screen and the least bugs, possibly none, and the Sirf rec. is good if you can get it.I have the 76 csx just a different case and am quite happy with it.Garmin products lately seem to be going downhill somewhat, everytime a new product comes out it is so full of bugs it barely works and with screens that are dimmer. The 60 series are good and reliable work horses and perhaps a new Garmin is coming out in a few months anyway,in my opinion, the Oregon and Colorado are passable units at this time I will wait for something better to come along,I dont need a collection of them.
  19. One more thing, were all your prducts registered with Garmin? You can retrieve your unlock codes from MY GARMIN on their site with out your GPS connected provided that you registered everything their previously.Under My Garmin / Manage Maps.I have also seen my unlock codes in my Garmin folder on my hard drive ,but I currently cant seem to find it,I will tell you where to look if I find it later, good luck.
  20. I am not trying to give you a scolding, but did you not have a paper copy with all your unlock codes written down? Its for this purpose that you need that stuff. Its kind of like trying to reload windows without the product code.I can understand your anger, but Garmin like all software providers is only trying to prevent illegal use of its products to ensure their survival as a company.Running system restore on your computer may have fixed your registry problem.
  21. Mine works OK too ,but both are probably older versions.Garmin software just seems to be getting so bad these days,I am very reluctant to buy anything from them, good luck.
  22. OK thanks ,I new about the hierarchy for maps, just kind of thought marine charts would be seperate from it,no big deal I guess since you would most likely not need to use them both together.
  23. Can anyone help me with this one, just installed blue chart on my 76csx ,I also have topo Canada, topo USA and US National Parks west on it.But you cannot veiw Blue Chartt and the topos at the same time. With Blue chart on you cant see the maps, turn off Blue chart and now you can see the maps.Is this normal or is their a way to veiw them together ?
  24. On the welcome screen on my 76 csx, near the bottom left it says copyright SIRF technology all rights reserved,60csx with SIRF should be the same I would think.
