  1. Got this question from a friend who is having both a MapSource problem, and a problem logging in on the forum. Sadly, I couldn't help with either since I'm a Mac person. Rick
  2. I do it all the time from a G5 Mac desktop and a newer "Intel" Mac laptop.
  3. I had one of their map programs a few years ago (Before things like Mapquest and Google Maps), and it was a good product........ Then they decided Mac wasn't worth it, leaving folks high and dry. Sadly being a Mac person that has made me very distrustful of them (and a couple of non-related vendors) ever since. Rick
  4. The two are pretty much the same as far as function goes. The 76 series floats, but both are water "resistant". I'd suggest trying to handle them both at a store since some folks have a preference for the keys abve or below the screen. As for me, I prefer the 60 series.
  5. If you're not happy with it you'll be in the minority!
  6. Yup, pretty much the same inside. Do a search of the forum and you'll find lots of information on both.
  7. Have to admit, I saw that and wondered the same thing. Funny, since that's the only gps with a deep discount. Rick
  8. If it's not a 60C(S)x model the answer is no, you do not have the newer chip set, and the only way I know of to "upgrade" is to buy one of the "x" series. (I went from a 60 CS to a 60CSx just for the new chip set a couple years ago.) Rick
  9. Hmmm...... No mention of Mac in the "System Required" section! (Not that I've checked other updates lately.) Rick
  10. I would think that after reading what folks here went through with the Colorado people might be a little "gun shy" about jumping on this model. It looks real good, but I think I'll stick to my 60 CSx till a lot of reviews are in.
  11. I'll add another "works fine for me". Used the same cable and mount (Garmin) I used with the 60CS. Rick
  12. Depending on the map set they have to be unlocked for each specific GPS. Some now only unlock on ONE unit, then you must buy another unlock code. Rick
  13. There is also a limit of 2025 map segments. That is something to keep in mind. Rick
  14. I haven't seen anything that removes the 2025 segment level for loading maps. That means for US Topo anything more that 1 gig is a waste of money as far as maps go (you hit the segment limit at about 900+ MB.
  15. Basically you need to upload the map(s) you want all at once. If you add ONE segment later that is all that will be on you GPS, it "starts fresh" with each load. There is also a 2025 segment limit on the 60/76 series GPSs. That is the maximum you can load on any size card, and the segment size depends on the map set, the topo maps tend to have small segments. Also, your lock is stored, you can't reclaim it, but you can load on the "registered" gps over and over! Hope this helps you some. Rick
  16. I use the 60CSx and got my wife a Vista CSx, and what has been said so far is true. The only fault I've seen with either is on the Vista. My wife likes to carry it on the lanyard, and if it happens to bump the "joystick" just right it goes into the scroll mode. Confused the heck out os the first time it happened, I didn't think the joystick was that sensitive. Rick
  17. The Maha units are good, I use one for travel. Check out the Thomas Battery site http://www.thomas-distributing.com/index.htm And you'll find a wealth of information, and most of the better chargers including Maha, not to mention different brands of batteries. At home I've been using a MH-C9000 charger - analyzer. It controls 4 batteries individually (AA or AAA), and allows a few useful operations from break-in to refresh.
  18. I guess the question is what are you trying to do, and have you tried the Mac beta software? Using the USB cable that came with my wife's Vista I can see both her Vista and my 60 CSx in my desktop G5 machine with no problem, I am currently running 10.4.11 though. I didn't have to load any extra drivers.
  19. I was trying something for a different reason and left both a Vista HCx and a 60 CSx in a window sill to check movement (Drift?) for an hour. The Vista "moved" 193 meters, and the 60 "moved" 202 meters during the timed hour. Don't know if that will help you any. I wasn't checking altitude, but any change in barometric pressure will cause movement. Rick
  20. Not sure just how valid this test was, but.......... Before upgrading to 2.6 I put my Vista in the window and left it for about an hour. The odometer didn't register any movement ("normal" drift). After the update about the same time in the same window registered about 250 ft from those little annoying "jumps" people are always complaining about! That's about all the checking I've had time to do so far. Rick
  21. Got mine for the Topo maps update.
  22. I have a friend who got a DeLorme, kept it for about 25 days, and returned it. To take his comment to the highest level he said the maps were great but the GPS wasn't "ready for prime time". One specific thing was real jerky screen refresh, especially when driving.
  23. I have a friend that is checking the DeLorme out right now. After talking with him today and comparing some aspects of his GPS with my 60 CSx, he says he's about 50-50 on returning the DeLorme and going with a 60CSx. Don't know if that helps any. One of the things he doesn't like is the "jerky" screen refresh when he's driving, and the screen being hard to see in his car when the backlight isn't on while backlit. We'll be talking more over the next few days.
