  1. I turned my GPSmap 62st on and it tells me "cannot unlock maps" when I select "OK" it then starts up and the only map on my device "Recreational Map Europe v3" is then shown, this map came with my device and I have not bought any other maps, when I open it in Garmin Mapinstall it says "No unlocked maps were found for this device." my device firmware is up to date, I have done a master reset but it made no difference, the only thing prior to this happening was that I put on a BajanNav V02 04 1 map of Barbados, it was a free download from their website and my device did work fine afterwards, I have since removed it, I do not have an SD card in with any other maps, I am running out of idea's what to do
  2. I recently placed a cache but it turned out to be too close to a puzzle cache, the problem was that I did not know there was a puzzle cache in the area as with all puzzle caches the coordinates are only discovered after solving them, is there any way around this problem? Would it be ok to e-mail the reviewer in advance to ask if some given coordinates are clear of any hidden puzzle caches?
  3. Thanks for the replies, I do understand now and it does of course make sense to try and not use the same coords so they don't overlap on the map, I will bear this in mind when I place the cache, thanks.
  4. I have read the "Geocache Listing Requirements / Guidelines" and I am just a little unsure on something, the location I want to place my cache is near a puzzle cache, the puzzle cache coordinates are not the actual place of the cache so are non physical with no physical elements, the guidelines say they can be closer then 161m because there is nothing physically placed at that location but how close can they be placed? It implies that they can share the same location.
  5. I have programmed my Chirp without any problems the only thing I wondered about is that it did not ask me for a PIN which would be the last 5 digits of my device (Garmin GPS62st) Why does it not ask for my PIN? Any help much appreciated.
  6. I wondered if anyone else has had a similar problem as I have started getting with my GPS62st, I am using it for geocaching and have it set to "track up" it works for a while as I follow the pink line to the cache location but then the map freezes, I can zoom in and out but when I turn the device the line to the cache stays in the same position which then makes it impossible to know which way the cache is, I then have to turn it off and back on again and then it is ok for a short time, the device is up to date and I don´t have lots of files on the memory cards, any help would be much appreciated.
  7. Thanks for the info, I'm not sure how many mapping segments there are but as there are only 5 .img files then I'm sure it must be less then 3,000, since posting some of the maps have now starting showing on my device, maybe ejecting and mounting a few times seems to have done something.
  8. I have in the past put maps in a Garmin folder of my SD card on my GPS62st, these maps are .img files and have their own country names, when I tried to put some on recently they would not show on my Garmin device, not sure where I am going wrong, anyone have any better way of doing this? Garmin GPSmap 62st, software version 4.30.

    Chirp

Hi, is it possible to do a search for Chirp caches by country? I did a search using "Chirp" as a Keyword but it then brings up all the Chirps in the world and I wanted to narrow it down to a country, anyone know if it is possible?
  10. Thanks for the info, some good advice in that thread, I guess I should have updated my device and checked because after doing so I did get all the GPX files back, not perfect as it is now showing Geocaches I have already found but I can delete them so no problem.
  11. I have just added 2 geocache GPX files to my GPS62st but when I open the geocaches on my device I now only see the 2 new ones, all the others are no longer showing, if I connect my device to my laptop I can see all the GPX files in the Garmin folder so they are actually there, anyone have an idea what has happened and how to get them to show? All the other GPX files well added from my pc and this is the first time I have added GPX files from this laptop.
  12. Thanks for the replies and info, the Chirp would have been buried on my property but as it may not work then I will have to have a rethink on the idea, I have a Garmin GPS62 which I have tried out on a Chirp and it worked very well, I will have to get the Chirp and do some experimenting.
  13. I am about to buy my first Chirp and wondered about the various ways of hiding it, I would think for best reception placing it high up but what about if it was buried in a plastic watertight container? I was thinking of burying it just a few inches below ground in soil, would it even work or would the range just be less, anyone have opinions or even tried this?
  14. I have a similar question, I have just bought my first 3 Travel Bugs, is it allowed to put a TB into a cache, sign the log and then take it out and move it to another cache straight away? I have seen this done in the logged visits of caches, I guess to start putting some mileage on it.
