  1. Impressive. I have 2 FTF's one was a co-FTF with Andy... of course. Congrats, -Ted
  2. I saw both at the same cache. A "bomb bag" wrapper that was slipped over a stick pointing to the cache. It was very annoying. I may need some help from time to time, but let me be the one who requests it from the owner.
  3. How about 15 Million Candle power? That should be bright enough. http://tinyurl.com/yl6urf You just have to finish in 45 minutes before the battery dies.
  4. I own both a TomTom Go 910 and a Garmin 60CSX. I have never cached with the TomTom, but hands down is better then the CSX for driving. My wife really uses the TomTom and I use my 60CSX. I use the Garmin for driving directions and it work pretty good. The small map can be limiting. I certainly would not want to cache with the TomTom. It would give you away in the woods when it says, "Turn left at the next Oak tree" If I had to pick one... 60CSX. It's a great unit.
  5. I think this is a cool idea. What about throwing every cachers name in hat and drawing teams? It forces a true mix up.
  6. I am not sure, don't think you can, upgrade from Metro 4. Don't buy the City Nav 8 from Garmin at the full price of $130.00 A Garmin tech actually told me this when I called about a City Nav 7 vs. 8 question I had. This site has it for $107.00 http://planetgps.net/grm0101081600.html
  7. All, I have City Nav7 which I received as a gift with a 60CS last xmas. Since then I have purchased a 60CSX and unlocked City Nav7 for my additional GPS. For some strange reason I thought I was entitled to a free upgrade, but no such luck according to Garmin. They shipped me the City Nav8 DVD for free, but when I went to unlock it....Garmin wants $75.00. So my first question, is the upgrade to Nav 8 worth it from a map and POI perspective. For those have made the upgrade, do you notice a change? Garmin in it's infinite wisdom makes you unlock the update to both GPS' you don't have a choice. This was confirmed by calling them. Second question, considering I do not use my 60CS that much anymore and will probably sell it. Should I just pat the $130 for a full version of Nav8? This way if I purchase another GPS in the future I can unlock it for that? I appreciate your opinions. Ted
  8. Apparently it can take 2+ days. I just received my first request.
  9. This past weekend I have started to experiment with creating my own custom topo maps. The process is not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Although I have run into an issue downloading stream data from the NHD Geodatabase. My real issue is not technical it's not getting the data back. I issue my extract request and get confirmation it was sent and that I will be emailed the link to download. Well it's been a couple of days and still nothing. Has anyone else had this issue? How long does the data typically take? I have issues a few different extracts with different email accounts, still no luck. Thanks, Ted
  10. Become a premium member on geocaching.com. It's worth it. You can then run a pocket query. One of them is "My Finds", all of your found caches. -ThreeTrees
  11. Here's how I do it. I have Palm Tungsten T, GSAK, Cachemate. I assuming you know how to create pocket queries on geocahing.com. In GSAK I have my default database for my local area. I was traveling to South Carolina and Jacksonville and wanted to keep the area separate. I created separate pocket quires for Jacksonville and SC. In GSAK I created two new databases. Click on Database --> New and named each appropriately. Loaded each pocket query into the new databases. Then in each database after they are loaded in GSAK I export them to Cachemate PDB files. File --> Export --> Cachemate PDB file. I do this for each database naming the PDB file after the database i.e. SC.pdb & Jville.pdb I then sync my pda installing the files to my PDA. I then open cachemate on mt PDA. Sometimes it automatically detects the files. Most often I have to open the options in cachemate and choose rescan mem card. Then I have restart cachemate and it detects the new files and I am prompted to select an import category. I choose the category I want or create a new one for each new location. Then when they are imported I select my category I want to view. I choose SC and all the caches for South Carolina are there. Hope this helps.
  12. Palm Tungstun T, GSAK, Cachemate and 60CS & 60CSX
  13. In GSAK Click on File Export CacheMate PDB File... Then sync your PDA Open Cachemate, it should detect the new file.
  14. Go to the My Account area on Geocaching.com and on the right side download the Google Earth KML. It will show all the Geocaches in Google earth. You will have to be within 500ft view to see them.
  15. I use a older Tungsten T. GSAK & Cachemate w/ a 60CS
  16. Is there a way to change a Geocache from "Found" to Not Found on the 60CS. I mistakenly hit found while looking for cache. Do I have to delete it and re-load it? Not a big deal if I do.
  17. I am interested to see if you use a external antenna for your hand held. If you do have one when do you use it? Do you have to have one if you want to use your GPSr in a car? I have, or will have by Xmas, a Garmin 60C. Should I consider getting an external antenna?
