  1. Looks like it was this cache. Hide & Seek - Palo Marsh http://coord.info/GCAF58 It was here: Normal GPS Coordinates (WGS84 Datum) Decimal 42.07853 -91.793 DDD MM.MMM N 42° 04.712 W 091° 47.580 DDD MM SS.SSS N 42° 4' 42.708" W 91° 47' 34.800"
  2. I recently debated the same topic. I did get chance to look at each up close in a store. I decided to go with eTrex 30. My reasons; Smaller size, bright screen, GLONASS and in my opinion the touch screen would be an issue in the colder weather wearing gloves. Some say it is not. I as well do not input a lot of data in the field. The current 2.40 firmware is a must, although it is not perfect, but I suspect it will just improve.
  3. Go to the log where you uploaded the image. Click on edit log. Then click on edit image. There will be an option to delete the image.
  4. You can upload tracks on http://connect.garmin.com also on http://www.everytrail.com/
  5. The etrex 10/20/30 series will not read geocaches in .csv format. I'm not sure why you would want to in the first place.
  6. Today I did some caching with my new eTrex 30. It seemed highly accurate on some caches. It was downright awful on another. In fact it was over 300 feet off. I could tell I was walking too far and the distance to the cache just was not changing, so I pulled out my iPhone 4s and it walked me right to the cache. I think GLONASS had something to do with it, I turned it off (GLONASS) on the eTrex and sure enough it settled in. The area I was caching in had some decent tree cover, although almost all the leaves are down. It was also very rocky. I was highly surprised by this. This may have been a fluke, but I will be testing the unit out more.
  7. I agree, Here in Northern New Jersey I have been to caches where GPS units change their accuracy and direction to the cache while you are standing still. I have seen fluctuations of over 65 feet then down to 4 feet and back again within seconds. I know for fact it's not my GPS unit or that the satellites were all directly overhead, as most of the people who vist the cache describe the bounce as being severe. As always the GPS only gets you to the general spot. Sometimes it's dead on.
  8. Thanks for the post... My 60csx just started doing this. I typically connect it to a virtual Windows image so I can use GSAK. I must have connected it to my MAC recently and it started to make the constant tone on shutdown. I thought it was on it's way to electronic graveyard. Downloaded Clean Eject, works like a charm.
  9. Why is the 450 better than the 400? The 450 screen is better in sunlight. See http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-oregon-450-videos.html?youtube=ORHi9V6h7Og And a good comparison of the sizes... http://www.gpscity.com/garmin-oregon-450-videos.html?youtube=mLkaLON_7rM
  10. I agree the maps on gpsfilesdepot are great, but I was hoping to have trail maps loaded on the GPS.
  11. Yes, but I was thinking that TopoFusion might be more accurate.... but I really have no idea.
  12. I'm currently using a Garmin GPSMAP 60csx for hiking and geocahing. I get all my maps from http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ I'm interested in upgrading to an Oregon 450 or maybe an eTrex 30. I would like to create a custom map from a scanned map(s) that I own. For example, http://www.nynjtc.org/panel/north-jersey-trails My question is, have you done this? What tools did you use. Did it work well. Do loaded geocaches show up on the map? How well do the maps perform, zooming and panning? I will need image stitching software. Suggestions welcome. I have a scanner. It appears TopoFusion Pro is the best bet for the mapping software. Before I pony up for software licenses I would like to know your experiences. I do plan on downloading the demo software and trying it all, but would really like input from anyone who has done this. Thanks, Ted
  13. I highly suggest reading the manual. http://www.gpscity.com/pdfs/manuals/60CSX1GB-EN-MANUAL.pdf The delay in the compass could be from it being off. Turn it on and off by holding down the "Page" button. 1. you have the map set to "North Up" You can set it to "track up" if you prefer. 2. again setting it to "track up" See page 43 of the manual. 3. it should not. 4. Make sure the compass is turned on. Page 49. You can also setup the compass page to show the accuracy. Have Fun.
  14. Corrected email sent w/ my phone details. Thanks.
  15. FYI... I am getting Mailer-Daemon errors, 'user unknown' for support(at)caerleon.us The "(at)" was obviously replaced with "@" before sending. I am interested in testing the Beta.
  16. I think that might leave a bit of "geo-trail"
  17. I am selling my 60CS on ebay w/ City Navigator v7 Click here.
  18. I had a similar issue once. Something happened to the MicroSD card. I pulled the card out and started the unit. It worked. When I put the card back, same thing happened. I then formatted the card on my PC with a card reader, put it back in the unit and reloaded my maps and custom waypoints. All has worked perfectly since then.
  19. Symptoms don't show up in 24 hours. If you have Lyme it was from previous outing.
  20. I have a full suspension bike and rate myself an intermediate with a healthy respect for bone breaking terain. Closest frequent ride area for me is Lewis Morris Park (or should I say CondorTrax puzzle park ). I haven't rode much over the past few years, but I figured it was time to dump my 17 year old StumpJumper for a new sweet full suspension model... wow what difference.
  21. Hi, Has anyone created bookmark lists of caches that are good for mountain bikes? I have had very little luck with pocket queries, they keep coming back with zero results with the bike attribute flagged. I'm mainly interested in the North Jersey area, but anywhere in eastern PA, NJ or Southern NY would be great. If you have any please also post them in the pinned bookmarks thread. Thanks, -ThreeTrees
  22. I don't know how all of you rack up these big numbers. Took me a year and a half to get to 100. Well maybe if I hit lottery Congrats!
