  1. Wow, bad news. INATN was the best geocaching resource out there. I made county finds one of my main caching goals. Your work will be missed. Good luck with "real" life.
  2. E-mail them a date certain that you will delete the log then do it. I think they can always log again if they really do have pics.
  3. It's basically impossible without "micro-spew". There's an 8 mile stretch close to me with 85 caches in a strip of retail (on both sides of the street). Basically peope go from light pole to light pole. It's not difficult, but the challenge is in seeing how fast you can do it. Some peeps have done it in a half day. There are other clusters that get you to 120-130 in a full day. I plan on making this run to get from 900 to 999, then make 1000 a "significant" find. I'd rather never make it to 1000 than get 1000 on a light pole.
  4. If I were you I would have logged it as a DNF. A nice owner may have e-mailed you to change it to a smiley, but you shouldn't have claimed it as a find without prior permission.
  5. I agree with everyone who says that there's great value in letting a TB owner know where his bug is, especially if it was moved and not logged.
  6. When I started, a lamp post was hard. I didn't even know the skirts lifted up. The most discouraging thing is seeing a listing as 1/1 but not being able to find it.
  7. I just received my queries. Looking in the e-mail headers, it appears the the e-mail spent some time (about 2 days) bouncing around cyberspace. 12 hours at Groundspeak and 24 hours at outblaze (my e-mail forwarder). Usually this whole process takes minutes. Any IT gurus here to verify that? Am I reading this right?
  8. Good thought on Gmail. I usually get everything from Groundspeak, but I only got 1 of the 5 I had scheduled for today too. GC.com says they ran, but no e-mail. It seems odd that I'd get 1 of 5, but now that I think of it, the one that I did get was probably the smallest of the 5.
  9. Not sure if it's related, but I didn't get any of my PQs yesterday either. Today everything is fine again, but I chose yesterday to generate "My Finds." I submitted a ticket too.
  10. I think Sirfstar III is the latest generation of reciever, but for deep cover you might be better off with an external antenna. Most units can accept one, and you can buy them for about $20. I just checked and the garmin GPSmap 60Cx and 60 CSx both use the new Sirf chipset, and at least at one place can be had for less than $300 after a rebate.

    Google Earth

If this is the same problem that I had last night. I upgraded to V4.something of Google Earth and didn't have the KML overlay anymore. I downloaded the KML and re-opened it, restarted Google Earth, and now everything is back to normal. Hope this helps.
  13. It's mostly "My Account" for me too. Is there any way to build a PQ without going through the "my account" page?
  14. I'm displaying my stupidity here, but is there a prize for 20,000 posts or if this a joke I don't understand? It seems like the only think 20,000 posts would prove is that you've got a lot of free time. Numbers are only important to those that have them, so I'm the wrong person to ask. The reality is that since there's no way to delete a double post in this forum, I was just taking the opportunity to be silly. Got it, thanks. Sometimes being a newb on the board leaves me confused!
  15. Sounds like you might have "Caches I have found" checked. If you're sure there are some caches there (you ARE sure, right?) I'd try creating a PQ with no filters at all, then add them to get to a number and type of caches you can manage. If you're not getting any results with no filters, that's a completely different problem.

  17. There are a lot of ways to "give back" to the activity. Trade up, write descriptive logs, host/attend events, participate in these forums, volunteer for local groups, CITO and more. Many folks with zero hides do a lot of these other things. Thanks for making this point. Our family has about 120 finds but have never placed a cache. We do try to write thoughtful logs rather than the "TFTC" that we see a lot. Some day we'd like to place a cache, but only when we can place a fun one that we'll be checking on regularly.
  18. I've gotten a couple of these e-mails recently. This is [insert name] and I went with my brother and two of his boys, my wife, and daughter to look for the cache, [insert cache name] and could not find it. Could you tell me where it was. I think I know where it was after I left town. I was just wondering if I was correct. Is it OK to answer something like this, or should such questions be referred to the cache owner? It seems like a harmless question, but who am I to give away another's secret?
  19. You my friend have a terrible addiction. ALL my cash flow goes towards the comfort and well being of my family...After they are taken care of,then and only then do I spend on the Hobbies I enjoy. I appreciate that you support a website that brings you such fun...But some folks out there have different priorities. Im a cancer patient supporting a family, between medical bills, lost wages,on top of regular bills Im lucky to have 10 extra dollars this year. I appreciate Geocaching.com for the free membership and will at some point go to a premium membership,But only after I meet the needs of my household. There's a thread out there somewhere about "lurkers." This is the kind of thread that keeps lurkers in the shadows. It started out as an honest question from a newbie and turned into so many flames that it's hard to aim the extinguisher.
