  1. I sort of remember these. Did a few but found them rather silly so stopped and didn't really miss them when TPTB killed the whole idea. The only one I sort of really can bring to mind is "kiss a frog" where you posted a picture of you kissing a frog. Sorry can't find the picture.
  2. There was a series they called it a Craze locally where you found a number of clue caches, there were quite a few, and got a clue ( A= 5, or B= 7 etc) in each cache. You used these to complete a N50 36.ABC W150 36.DEF on a bonus cache page to find a bonus cache. Each A,B, C was located in more then one cache so you could complete the puzzle without having to find all of the clue caches or if one went missing. Was a lot of fun and I ended up finding all of the clue caches even tho I didn't need to.
  3. Use hand sanitizer before opening and then after closing the cache and you should be good. Cerberus 1 is likely right with the people you pass on the trail.
  4. Ban of crowds of 250 or more in California as coronavirus cases swell across US Going to keep my cacing to remote rural areas
  5. I have adopted several cahes and I always leave the original owner's name and add adopted by Captain Nemo to it.
  6. I can think of at least 4 caches I have visited more then once. I did so for a variety of reasons. One was because it was a book exchange and I wanted new reading material. One because it was a TB hotel and I wanted to drop and grab. One because it has the most awesome geodes in the area and one because it was the very first cache I found and I wanted to find again it on my 10th anniversary. . Always log with a note. These reasons make more sense then a smiley.
  7. Thanks for the info. that's kind of what I was beginning to think. Will have to keep on the lookout for adventure labs.
  8. While attending The Mega Event SWAG17 I got talking to the caching couple at the next table who were doing the Lab Caches at the event. They showed me the app and we together found the Lab for the restaurant we were at and made a note of the answer . Back at where we were staying I tried to download the app but was unable to due to data limits on the internet. Now that I am home I downloaded the app and tried to log the Lab cache it won't let me, I can't find any way to do so. Am I just out of luck or am I missing something?
  9. The first rule of platinum membership is you can't talk about platinum membership.
  10. Thanks Keystone, you most always seem to able to have something worthwhile to add. Enjoyed your posts from the beginning.
  11. I print my own in several sizes depending on the size of the cache. I then put the log in a plastic ziplock with a pencil if there is room. Rain isn't a big deal where I live but heat will dry out pen in no time at all. I also carry blank logs when I am out caching.
  12. Thanks, kunarion. This just came out of blue. The J3 does have a magnetic compass.
  13. Just got a notice that my Moto G old phone is outdated and I must update to a new phone. The best? choice for a new phone is a Galaxy J3. Can I move the Geocaching app to the new phone and uninstall it on the old phone or do I have to buy a new app?
  14. I use a gramin GPS V and a Moto G android phone and have good accuracy with both. If however I am unable to get a good signal on the phone the GPS works better. I use the phone with the Geocaching app most of the time unless I can't get a signal in which case I either use a premade list or the hand held GPS.
  15. run a pocket Query of the closest 1000 caches. Download it into GSAK and sort the results by cache owner check under the Xs or filter it by placed by contains X.
  16. 17. just logged in with my old GPS V and Nuvi 2597 no problems.
  18. First there is no way I approve of "three cache Monte" but on this 800+ cache power trail it is common. First time I found a cache with my signature already in it I was wondering if I had already found that one, so I backed up and checked the find where the cache came from and my signature was also there so now I just sign all logs on the day I find them and don't worry. I was just wondering if anyone else had had this happen, which they have. I am now going to mortify how I find these, I have about 550 to go, by skipping some and finding them latter, thanks for the idea Hozi.
  19. There is a power trail not that far from my house that I have been doing in chunks over the years. As it is a power trail it isn't that uncommon for finder teams to do 3Cache Monty to move containers down the trail. This results in when I find a cache for the first time to discover that the log already has my signature on the log from a different location. I go ahead and resign with a new date but it looks like I found the same cache a few months apart. I'm not worried that my find will be challenged as the CO relies on finders to maintain the caches, but have you had the same thing happen?
  20. Yes it sounds like the same as April. It is just what I noticed on my Verizon Bill doing their CYA and was concerned that I would be out caching and everything would go dumb. I have and when the phone losses service use my old Garmin GPS V but both it and my Garmin Nuvi show the same location. Will just have to wait and see and maybe use orienteering to find caches after Nov 3. I wouldn't mind being stuck in 1989.
  21. I just got a notice from Verizon about GPS Week Number Roll Over which stated that "Starting November 3, 2019 for specific devices manufactured between 2006-2016, users may experience Global Positioning System location related issues". Per Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_Week_Number_Rollover "products that were affected by the rollover include cellphones that were sold in 2013 or earlier". As I plan on out of town when this starts and geocaching will my phone GPS work. Not sure if what if anything can be done.
  22. Not in this case as it wasn't the same day that it was listed that I searched for it. Also the CO admitted that the cache was gone after I posted my DNF and archived it. It was in a nice park that I have considered placing a cache but couldn't find a secure place to hide one.
  23. Never had that happen but would have had a FTF on a cache that was muggled before it was found, so I claimed the FTS (first to search)
