  1. Ok, I went out yesterday and found 35 caches with the 62s and the Colorado 400T. After about 10-15 caches I stopped using the Colorado. The 62s is far more accurate!!! On the first 10-15 caches, the 62s was on average 15' more accurate than the Colorado. The 62 was easy to use, and once I got the hang of logging finds, it was a great unit. I even had an Oregon owner play more with my 62s than his Oregon 450!! He loved it as well. My only two complaints are 1. Battery life was great for about 9 hours. The unit gave the battery low signal, and it meant it. The batteries were dead in about 10 minutes after that. 2. When you wirelessly send a cache to the 62, you cannot see it on the map. You have to go the geocache list, and it will be in there. Select it, and then it shows on the map. Overall, I am very pleased with the 62!! I would recommend this unit to anyone!!
  2. it isn't the location that is making people uncomfortable... if you'd stop caching in the nude people might be more receptive. If it would ever cool down here I could wear some clothes!!
  3. My 62s came today. I spent most of the evening setting it up. So far so good. No sqeaking!! Maps loaded just fine. So far my only complaint is that the carry case I got with it covers up the ports on the back, so I cannot use the case and cigarette lighter power adapter at the same time. Will take it out tomorrow for some caching and some comparisons to my Colorado 400T. Will post what I find out.
  4. Here are a few I don't like: 1. Caches behind businesses. 2. Caches at private homes. 3. Caches at playgrounds. Basically, I don't like any location where my searching is going to make someone else uncomfortable.
  5. I JUST got the same email!! What the heck is this all about???
  6. I saw a post in the "Bad Cache Containers" thread that suggested a bad locations topic. It sounded like a great idea, so here it is. Lets hear about and see the locations you dislike (or just plain hate) to see a cache!!
  7. Can anyone tell me if a firetack would work submerged under 18"-24" water? Would it be relective enough to show up at night? How well would it hold up?
  8. This photo of a timber rattlesnake was taken by a local cacher this last weekend here in Alabama. I personally don't know of anyone who has been bitten while caching. As humboldt flier suggested, I use that walking stick to make sure that the coast is clear before I put my hands anywhere I cannot see. I really don't worry about the rattlers and moccasins too much, as they are prone to let you know they are there. The snake that worries me the most is the copperhead. They like to sit still rather than run and hope their camo hides them. As you can see, it does a great job of that. That characteristic makes them very easy to step on.
  9. I ran a query for Alabama and got a cache in Australia!!
  10. I want to do this trail! I think it would be a blast. Take some camping gear, and take 3-4 days and just enjoy the trip!!
  11. You will need to contact Cacher1984 for the S/N. I just posted the note for her, as she was heading back to Florence to deal with the issues there. And her contact info is available in her geocaching.com profile. Thanks.
  12. Been checking ebay and craigslist. Will have to check out Kijjiji. Thanks for the tip.
  13. Cacher1984's Oregon 300 was stolen this weekend in Florence, Al. Her car was at a dealership there and was broken in to. She has the serial number of the unit and can identify it via other info as well. Please put the word out to all of your geocaching friends!!! If you or anyone you know comes across an Oregon with suspicious origins, please contact Cacher1984 through her geocaching.com profile. Thanks.

  15. I have a new injury to add. Last month, I was poked in the eye by a stick or something. I never saw it, so I am not sure what is was. To make a long story short, I ripped off 30% of the cornea in my left eye. Missed a 3 days of work. Glad that I was with some caching partners who did the driving back home. I could not see well enought after that to drive safely! And it hurt something terrible!!!
  16. I found a cache (and logged it) that had not been found in 26 months. It is a four stage multi where you have to find a monument to get the hint for the second location. October 9, 2009 (202 found) Found the land mark and am very interested in finding the cach at the end of this one. I will have to try this one on a different day. There was also a second log on the same day that pretty much said the same thing. The cache had not actually been logged since October 2007! I have to admit, I was pretty proud of that find!
  17. These are in a cemetary in Wattsville, Alabama. Some of the graves date back to the 1820's. There is a multi cache there that I found. It really is a very unique place. GC1JW9R is the cache if you want to take a look at it.
  18. Thanks for the information. I will see where I can go from here. If anyone else has info on how I can ID this mark or just get more info on it, I would surely appreciate it. Thanks Pissedfish
  19. I found a benchmark a while back near a cache of mine in Gadsden, Alabama. I can't find any info it. Any one have any suggestions? Here is a picture of it. http://www.flickr.com/photos/44277605@N04/4201667426/ N 34° 00.669 W 085° 59.958 are not exact, but real close. Thanks, Pissedfish
  20. Is there a way to get a PQ by county? I can sort caches by county once I get them into GSAK, but I have to create queries first. Then I have to preview it to see where all it covers. If it does not cover the entire county, then I have to create another PQ or two to get the rest. If there is not a way, I sure do think if would be a handy option to have available. -Pissedfish
  21. My goal was to get 500 caches. I only had 54 when I started this year. I should break 800 this year. Goals for next year.... 1. 1500 caches 2. Complete Alabama Delorme Challenge 3. Complete Alabama 67 County Challenge. 4. Have as much fun next year as I did this year
  22. After reading through all of these assorted injuries, my broken finger is not bad at all.
