  1. I use a Garmin Streetpilot 2610 with City Navigator to get me to the area. After parking, I turn-on the GPSMAP60CS, also with City Navigator installed to hike to and locate the cache. I use a Palm Z22 for paperless caching. The combination of all three systems works great for me.
  2. I was talking with an experienced geocacher here in Florida when he noticed that my GPSMAP60CS did not have a screen protector installed. Since we spend a lot of time in mosquito and bug infested areas during our cache hunts he said that a screen protector will prevent insect repellents, especially those containing DEET, from etching the GPS screen. Since I didn't want to take any chances, I installed a screen protector as soon as I got home. Seems to work fine and doesn't affect readability at all.
  3. As a newbie to geocaching I quickly saw the advantage of paperless caching. Since I had never owned a PDA, I figured that their display would be similar to that of most Gps receivers. Based on that concept I purchased a Palm Z22 which is a great device. I especially like the simplicity of use and the more than ample memory to hold 100's of cache pages. It wasn't until my first trip to the field that I discovered that the display was next to impossible to read in bright daylight. I ended up always looking for a shady place in order to view the screen. Is this a problem with all, or most PDAs? What models offer good readability in daylight conditions?
  4. Thanks! I'll give them a try.
  5. Similar issue: I have decided to enter the world of "paperless caching" and have ordered an inexpensive Palm from Amazon.com. My problem is figuring out which is/are the best applications (e.g., Cachemate, GSAK, Spinner, Plunder, Watcher, etc.) to use to get my pocket queries into the PDA such that the pages look like those on the geocaching.com website as opposed to a text style presentation. I would appreciate any suggestions.
  6. Thanks for the information. I tried disabling the firewall and everything worked fine. I then brought the firewall back up and added geocaching.com to the friendly list and I can now see all the images full size. Again thank you for the solution.
  7. Perhaps I missed a recent change to the geocaching.com site, but lately I have been unable to view the "full size" photos. I see the "thumbnails", but when I click on them as directed in order to view the full size version, I just get a blank frame. I have tried with two different computers, but get the same result with each. Has anyone else experienced this?
