  1. Hello fellow geocachers! I'm posting to tell you of an awesome opportunity at my favorite geocaching spot, Circle B Bar Reserve in sunny Lakeland, FL. Camp Fire USA is taking part in the MLK Day of Service by putting together a community wide service project at Circle B Bar Reserve. We have the tall order of planting 1800 trees! The project will take place on January 16th, at 9:00 am and finish at 1:00 pm. Lunch will be included, so long as you register ahead of time. If you would like to participate, or if you have any questions just contact me through Geocaching.com, or email DaveC@CampFireUSA-Sunshine.org. I'll also respond to any questions posted here! Thanks, and happy caching!
  2. The money is a bit tight for me, but I do have a birthday coming up. Maybe someone will be nice enough to upgrade for me!
  3. What!?! no travel bug so you can get a map of its travels? Jim Well, there is a geocoin in there...

  5. So, my Geocaching bag is missing. I have been so desperate, I have even visited caches I had already found, just to see if they were still there. If you have the time, suggest some new toys to put in my new Geocaching bag.
  6. Just spiders, but for me, that's worse than a snake, or a racoon. I lothe spiders.
  7. I just got back from dinner with an old high school buddy. I hadn't as much as spoken to him in over 4 years. If it weren't for Geocaching, that streak would have still been going. Here's what happened: I was in my home town caching with another old high school friend, picking up some DNF's as well as some new ones that I hadn't found. while looking through the first one we found, my friend pointed out the name of our old friend. He was on a couple of other caches we found, as well. When I got home, sure enough it was the same person. I sent him an email, and we arranged to catch up. I'm glad I found him, and it's all because of geocaching. Any one else have a similar story? Let's hear it.
  8. Here in Lakeland, I am a fan of macdonr. most of the time I leave his caches thinking "That was a good idea."
  9. I've noticed where any two groups of people disagree on something that is strictly a matter of personal preference, both sides end up repeating themselves, trying hopelessly to convince the other side that they are right. IE: "I like wing nuts because you don't need a wrench to use them" "Yeah, but you can't apply enough torque with your hand to secure many things" "Yeah, but you don't need a wrench to use them" "Yeah, but you can't apply enough torque." No one leaves the conversation with anything.
  10. Gives you a map to look at also besides an arrow. This is NOT a good answer. The maps allow you to enter coordinates and then get driving directions to those coordinates. I dont think all mapping GPS give you driving directions. True. the basic maps don't give you directions, nor does Topo maps. A few do give some directions though.

  12. I would try some scent killer to keep the dogs from noticing the ammo cans. You can get a pretty big bottle of it from most stores with hunting equipment .
  13. I do most of my urban caches at night. Fewier muggles. As for a flashlight, I don't always need one. Most of the time there is enough streetlight to work. I carry a mini mag light in my bag in case I need a little more light. I also have a larger mag light in my car, if I need more.
  14. The only time I have had this sort of situation, was in person, rather than in an email. I didn't really think about it, and gave a small hint. I don't like giving spoilers, but a nudge in the right direction is ok IMHO.
  15. I would start with security, then if they don't have the power to give you permission, they can at least point you in the direction of someone who can.
  16. One thing's for sure, don't make the next one look so much like a deer!
  17. I suppose I should read all the replies before I post...
  18. Yeah I've discovered that but it only helps for a short time. These are some seriously itchy bites The creams seem to be helping, at least for now. Amazing I've lived this long, hiked as much as I have, and never had chigger bites before. Ah well, life is all about learning. I'm the same way. I have been an outdoorsman most of my life, practally covered in spanish moss some times, and never had a chigger bite. Local remedy is some clear nail polish on the bite. Having never had a bite, I couldn't tell ya if it works, but my Dad does it every time. The little buggers love him. Any one else know if it works or not?
  19. Well, it's been almost a month, and the one I released hasn't been discovered once. I didn't send it to too hard of a cache...a 1.5/2. hmm.
  20. Besides my Email, it's the most visited site on my cell phone.
  21. every time someone burns a copy of my cd that's $10 i'll never have. if you lend my cd to someone, that's fine as long as you don't create a second copy. it is obvious that you either do not understand copyright law, or you hold yourself above it. by the way, when i find bootleg cds in caches, i take them and destroy them. if i ever find a cache full of them, i will do the same. i don't often reply to myself, so this is a little weird. ...but i wanted to say that i have no objection to bootlegs of dead concerts; it is a practice they encouraged. i also occasionally put out bootlegs of my own work. i have some recordings that were never intended for public release but are fun in a cache. neither of these is a violation of the principles of intellectual property. i saw an argument recently about the moral obligation to steal music (i think they called it ripping cds). these folks maintain that out of the purchase price of a cd, the artist only gets about $2, so we should protest by illegally sharing the cds, thereby depriving the big bad record companies of ill-gotten revene. well, the $2 may not be a big enough cut, but that's the artist's income. it's bad reasoning to protect the artist's interests by depriving him of his pay. if you rip a cd to keep in your car so you don't ruin the original, that's fair use. as soon as you distribute it to another person or persons regardless of whether or not you take payment, it is a violation of the law. If it is in fact your work, is it really a bootleg?
  22. Perhaps I'm missing something methodology-wise but how do twenty percent of cachers take photos without a camera? I use the camera that is on my phone, but do not actually bring a camera. edited because two people already pointed this out
