Parts of the old line are part of a "Rails-to-Trails" bike route, but since they still show up on our local maps as active railroad lines, I've always posted a Note on my submissions with some clarification.

Not sure of your particular situation, but "Now Defunct" tracks can turn into "very Active tracks" at any time....it's not uncommon for a branchline that hasn't been used in years, to suddently find a new lease on life, and turn active with little or no notice. Unless the tracks are pulled up and gone completely, and it's a rails-trails type thing, suggest moving it away from the rail line. As a Railroad Safety Officer, I can tell you our mantra- "ALWAYS expect a train, at ANY time, on ANY track, from ANY direction!"
