  1. I posted an update on the mail server issue that occurred this morning. All queued mail should be delivered in the next couple of hours. Elias
  2. Sometime early this morning, some minor filesystem corruption on our mail server caused outbound delivery performance to be severely reduced and a large backlog of email accumulated on the server. The filesystem has been repaired and delivery performance has returned to normal levels. Due to the large backlog of email, it will probably take most of the day to fully deliver all queued mail. I'll continue to monitor the server's health closely over the next several hours but I don't anticipate any further issues. Elias
  3. This downtime has been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. Elias
  4. Tonight around 8 PM Pacific time (GMT-8) , we'll be taking Geocaching.com down for a few hours while we perform some maintenance on our primary database server. The estimated downtime is between 2 to 4 hours. Should the scheduling change in any significant way, I'll post an update here. Elias
  5. A few days ago, we moved the forums to a much faster server hoping that would help some of the problems they've been having recently. Its nice to hear that it did. There are still some major underlying issues with the forums, particularly with the search feature which can't be easily fixed. We have some longer term plans to migrate the forums to new software, but that won't be for a while, so hopefully this faster hardware will buy us some time. Elias
  6. As of this post, almost all of the backlogged email has been delivered. There are still a lot of emails for Hotmail, Bellsouth, and a few of the other ISPs that severely throttle our email, but otherwise, most of the email has been delivered and the server is healthy and stable. Elias
  7. There was an issue with the mail server that started sometime late yesterday. I've posted an announcement about this issue. Elias

  10. As of 6:15 AM Pacific time, the bulk of the upgrade has been completed and the image server is back online. It is still doing some of its own internal work so image performance will be noticeably degraded for much of the day. The final step in the process will require a quick reboot, and I hope to complete that this evening. If you notice anything wrong (other than slow images), please let us know. Elias
  11. After some productive communication with Comcast yesterday, this issue should be resolved. All backlogged email in queue has been delivered. I'd like to thank all the Comcast geocachers who contacted Comcast to help get their attention. It was only after all those calls that Comcast proactively contacted us to resolve this issue. Elias
  12. I updated my Comcast email issue announcement thread with some new information I've received this morning. Please keep an eye on that thread as I'll post updates there as I receive new information. Elias
  13. I've received a number of PMs this morning from Comcast customers who have had some luck contacting Comcast on this issue. One report indicated that Comcast has recently implemented some new anti-spam measures that are causing mail problems for a number of large-volume email senders, and Groundspeak appears to be one of them. Another report indicated that Comcast maintains that they're not blocking us, but they did admit that there is "some type of problem" and that the issue has been escalated. Thanks to everyone for contacting Comcast to get them to admit there's an issue and work on it. I'm encouraged by these latest reports that this may be resolved soon. I'll continue updating this thread as new information comes in. Elias
  14. UPDATE: Plaidguy was able to get Comcast to assign a ticket to this issue. Please reference ticket CR112009346 when contacting Comcast. Thanks Plaidguy! Elias
  15. Sometime in the last few days, Comcast began throttling all Groundspeak email. It appears that Comcast is accepting less than half of the email we're generating, so there is an enormous backlog of email on our mail server. I filled out the Comcast "Blocked Provider" form twice, being very careful to explain the situation but each time I receive a canned response that our server isn't blocked. While technically true, I did carefully explain that we're being throttled and not completely blocked and I asked them to relax their restrictions or whitelist us. Given these canned responses, they don't seem to want to help resolve this issue: At this point there's nothing more Groundspeak can do to resolve this issue. If you're a Comcast customer affected by this issue, please contact Comcast and try to have this escalated. If you can send me a PM here in the forums with the direct contact for someone who can help resolve this issue, I'll happily contact them. Elias
  16. I've sent two requests to Websense asking for more information on this and I haven't heard anything back. Until they respond back to me, there's not much we can do to fix this issue. Elias
  17. I've contacted Websense and have asked for more information on their listing, so hopefully they'll let me know so we can correct the issue. I'm sure whatever they've come across is just a false-positive and it should be very easy for us to fix. In the meantime, I'll investigate the "HTTP MS IE Object Element Data DoS" that was reported to see if I can find out where this is coming from and remove it as well. Elias
  18. We forgot to copy in all the icons when we deployed the update to the site. These will be fixed shortly. Elias

    Wrong Log Dates

Thanks for reporting this issue. I've put this in our bug database and we'll work on resolving this soon. Elias
  20. From our perspective, these are the same topic. If you can let us know what it was that you liked about the old maps, we can try to make these better, or, if there's an bug with the new maps, we can work on fixing it. Either way, letting us know what works or doesn't work for you is helpful feedback so we can improve the feature. Elias
  21. The site was in a state of flux for a while but should be stable now. If you're still experiencing issues with the Google maps or have comments on how they're working, please send an email to contact at geocaching.com so we can document any issues and work on making them better. Elias
  22. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This is not an appropriate ad for our site and I'm not sure how it got there, but I'm going to have it taken down as soon as possible. We'll investigate how this ad made it into rotation to make sure it doesn't happen again. Elias
  23. This is very strange. I haven't checked your account, but I can tell you that we have no process in place to delete PQ records. Are you sure you're logged in to the correct account? Elias
  24. Its a Groundspeak problem, emails weren't bouncing from Gmail. Elias
  25. It looks like we sent you 2 watchlist emails yesterday around noon Pacific Time (GMT -8). Did you not receive those? Elias
