    Editing a post

quote:Originally posted by Team CacheCows of Wisconsin: I can't think of a valid reason to prevent the creator of a post from being allowed to edit their content, or even delete the post. I'm very willing to hear reasons you may wish to do this, but at present my request is for no time limit at all. I believe the intended purpose of that function is to prevent a user from maliciously defacing their previous posts in reponse to *something*. But I agree that there are far more positive reasons to allow editing of posts so I've disabled the time restriction. -Elias

Gav! did you get that one or has it gone to a higher authority? The moderator settings in these new forums are quite different than the old ones and I haven't yet updated all the moderators yet. I should have the moderator settings fix in the next day or two. -Elias

  5. quote:Originally posted by Formerly known as Kerry: Different usernames on different sites are understandable BUT to COPY one database from one password protected forum to another and have a duplicate user Id basically inherit the posts by default is simply not acceptable, unfortunate or not. I this is the case then out of simple respect I'm requesting the administrators to delete all my previous posts (under my original username) from this forum which were copied over from the old forum (which is now locked). Even though there is a user registered on Geocaching.com with the username of Kerry, you are free to change your display name to anything you like, including "Kerry". All posts in the forums will use the display name. All of the posts imported do not have users assigned at all. You'll notice all the imported posts show "guest" under the name. These posts can't be edited or modified, even if the usernames appear to match, so you don't have to worry that another user has somehow inherited your posts. -Elias
  6. quote:Originally posted by DisQuoi: I can't find an explanation for these ... _Replies_ ... obvious, never mind _Views_ ... the number of people that viewed the page but includes people who didn't respond? _Rating_ ... out of five stars ... how is this calculated? Views: Yep... Its the number of people who viewed the topic. I haven't figured out if its distinct though. Rating: There is a rating dropdown at the bottom of each page which lets users rate a particular topic. Its just a simple average. -Elias

I'm not sure why it doesn't automatically show the results, but it will stop you from voting twice. quote:2) The folder icons that are either yellow for "New replies since your last" visit or white for "No new replies since your last visit" don't seem to be working for me. Also seems cookie related, but I'm not sure since the login cookie IS working for me. I've noticed this too and am going to watch it for the next couple of days. We imported the last of the old forum posts this morning after this site went live so I'm hoping its just a side effect of the import and will clear itself up tomorrow.... Hopefully.... -Elias

  9. Previously, the forums and the Geocaching.com site had two different login databases. With these new forums, we've been able to integrate the geocaching logins. All the previous forum logins are no longer valid. Some people may have used different usernames on both the geocaching.com site and the forums, so now they'll be represented by their geocaching username. Its possible that you may have been using a username in the previous forums which was already taken by a geocaching account. Unfortunately, if that's so, you'll have to create an account with a different username. -Elias
