  1. I just usually tell people that we're going hiking. Most of the caches we search for are in the woods anyways. I used to try to explain the sport of geocaching to everyone, but it is really difficult, especially when they don't even know what GPS is! So if someone seems like they'd be clueless as to what geocaching is-based on my description, I just say "We're going hiking" and leave it at that. If they start asking more detailed questions, then I might elaborate.
  2. Why not just place it in the state park area near your property and avoid all this confusion over carrying a cache description page, not to mention liability concerns. Liability would be my biggest concern-you know, those "trip-and-fall-ambulance-chasing-lawyers."
  3. I know what you're saying...we're planning a trip to Toronto this weekend to see the Maple Leafs and we're trying to figure out if 1 or 2 (or more) caches might be on the way. Wouldn't want to waste a good opportunity like that to add to the caches found total!
  4. I bought my dad a Garmin GPS 40 about 5 years ago. Does anyone know if there are any upgrades for it out there? And if so, what kind of cable (and where do I get it) would be used on such a dinosaur? Thanks, Coonhound
  5. We have a coupleof the 120s on order. We are quite new to the sport and bought a Garmin Emap to start us out and we really like it. The thing about the rinos is the fact that you can "see" where the other person is (peer to peer position). The FRS part is nice, but that's available by itself in a much less expensive form!
  6. Does anyone know of any program like MeMap that can be used on a Garmin eMap v2.75?
  7. The Rino (according to most sites) is supposed to be released in late September. But Garmin has been saying late (insert month here) for a long time. They either don't know what they're doing or have little interest in releasing the Rino because they have something bigger and better in the development pipeline.
  8. I've been getting my weekly geocaching update every week by e-mail.
  9. We tried to pre-order a couple of Garmin Rinos from AdvancedGPS.com a couple weeks ago. They said they would send them via FedEx as soon as they were available. I went back to their site last weekend and noticed that they removed the Rinos from their catalog, so I emailed them to ask them if they were still going to send ours. A day later I received a reply stating only that the Rinos are not yet available (which I already knew) and that I would have to find somewhere else to order them. I would've been waiting for them to come by FedEx for a while had I not gone out of my way to contact them on the status of my order. They said they cancelled it, but didn't tell me. I wouldn't order from them again!
  10. I think it has great possibilities. I work with nursing homes and assisted living facilities for the elderly and one of their biggest concerns (and problems) is that residents are always "escaping." They then search the local area in hopes that they'll find this person (usually with dementia) safely.
