  1. From an experienced Garmin V user and someone who spends *lots* of time in a vehicle - DO NOT BUY THE GARMIN SUCTION MOUNT! Mine, and many others from reading in here, had the bad experience that the mount would not support the unit. I love the bean bag mount - it allows me to move the V from my Company car to my POV. I also invested in a Ram mount (the best) suction mount that really does hold!! I am able to mount the V on the left side of the windshield with the Ram mount and it is very nice for driving with very little distraction. The Garmin suction mount does *not* suck!! - which, in this case is bad!! HAPPY CACHING!!
  2. It is kinda like TV or rock music - if you don't like it don't listen. You know where the on/off button is - use it. No need to try and spoil what others like. I won't complain about your "real" caches if you don't complain about my "play" ones. But hey - if this is a game, and it is, then let everybody "play." Peace, out & HAPPY CACHING - whatever form it takes for you Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix

  4. Hi - as a resident of The City Beautiful and a bit of a gadget freak I can say that Bass Pro Shop is a great place to shop. You can probably get stuff online cheaper (well, not probably - most certainly) but it is fun to actually handle and play with gadgets!! Bass Pro Shops are located on International Drive and just about anyone can direct you - it is a really HUGE store and carries a very good selection of GPS's and accessories. I am not an employee - but do spend a lot of time (and money) there. HAPPY CACHING... Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix

  6. In my opionion (and that is as a newbie who has not yet placed a cache - but as a police officer with about twenty years doing what it do) I think it is not prudent to place a cache near ANY known criminal acitvity. The fact that you place the proviso to stay away at night means nothing to me - cache placement near known criminal activity (body dumping, stolen car dumping, drug sales) just does not stike me as a good idea or instilling the family values of geocaching. Just what I think - HAPPY CACHING!!! Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix
  7. It is nice to see this story. Although it is the second story with no reference to the first article. There is a cache that an author of this paper hid with some folks (I was the first to find)...just wonder like they are treating it like it's "brandy new." HAPPY CACHING!! 8. Hiya...as someone who purchased a Garmin V last year and LOVES it let me say this. I LOVE IT. As a law enforcement professional recently tasked with cataloging some locations so that we may have coords on hand in the event of needing them for assisting jurisdictions let me say - I LOVE IT. As a law enforcement professional who has been to other jurisdictions after a natural disaster where street signs were no longer there and we had to navigate around an unfamiliar area let me say...well, you get it. I like ALL the features of the Garmin V and see the moving map, the autorouting and ease of use - along with computer interfacing to be well worth the price. My GV is my personal unit but I like the ruggedness of it and all the features. If you would like to know more e-mail me, I have left certain information out for obvious reasons. I am not a GPS guru or anything but have tried to teach myself enough to get around. Thanks & BE SAFE. Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix
  9. Thank you all very much. I was curious and now I know. I knew I could count on the forums to get an answer - and an especially helpful website to compute this kind of thing in the future!! Thanks again & HAPPY CACHING!! Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix
  10. I was curious, and nearly certain, that someone here could answer a question about determining distance between two coords. If I had been at S 34 54.952/W 055 02.791 and wanted to go to S 34 51.356/W 056 01.435 what would the distance be? I can not find the usual resources beause the two coords are in Uruguay, S. America. The first is a virtual that I was at a little while ago and the second is the only cache located in Uruguay (but located in/near Montevideo where I may be returning) so I would like a rough distance. If I return and the cache is still placed I would like to try to find it. Thanks in advance for anyone's help. I have previously asked a rather odd question and got help right away. By the way - I would not ask if the answer was *clearly* obvious - I try to solve those myself before posting. Take care & HAPPY CACHING!! 11. Just don't make it the same weekend as the Central Florida campout. My bet is you will get a lot of people that attend both. Count me in - Ocala is fairly close to me (in Apopka) and I am planning on the one in February here in the Orlando area. Nice to see some more activities!!! Thanks & HAPPY CACHING!!! 13. 14. Now all that morse code - now THAT is irritating...and as long as we are here - haven't been for some time - all the pettiness on the discussion got SO old. Hope all is well - I see life goes on.... Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix
  15. I think the first-aid kit is a GREAT idea. My Agency just had some made as a PR tool for Homeland Security and I got a couple (they are snall and have a few items in them) and will leave them. As far as the logo - it is your business and the means by which you are able to leave them - it is not an ad (per se) but a professional courtesy and a very cool cache item. Safety is important to you (your business) and this is a nice way to share that - I see it as a mutually beneficial kind of thing. HAPPY CACHING!! 17. I can either hope this thread concludes and we adpot Ch. 12 as the "official" channel or I can continue to carry three radios with one each on channels 2, 10 and 12. I think the idea of a consistent channel is a good one - and the idea of encouraging carrying a radio - as well is a good one. After reading the thread pretty thoroughly - my vote is for Ch. 12 (when it started out as Ch. 10)...So, looking forward to making "contact" sometime - HAPPY CACHING!!! 19. Although I only have one bug so far (TravelDawg) I plan on getting more and I would vote to keep the tag. The copy is on my keychain and I like the "dogtag" idea above...HAPPY CACHING!! Does the walker choose the path, or the path, the walker? - Sabriel, by Garth Nix

  22. How about the X-Files movie where Mulder leaves behind the coords of where he is going? And the X-Files episode where Mulder finds a location using a GPS? Or songs - Jimmy Buffet (Changes in Attitudes, Changes is Latitudes? And we have already beat "The Mole" to death (kinda) but that was very cool too!! And that famous folk song, "I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic GPS - sittin' on the dashboard of my truck!" (yeah - I know)... 24. Not to add to your burden but if finances permit and you have a favorite Kinko's they are very good at that kind of thing. Just drop off names and type of certificate and they will be happy to do the work - they are 24/7 and good at "crunch" work. HAPPY CACHING!!
