  1. Here are a couple of pics my wife took. Also, I found the handlebar mount. Please email me at rharkrader@gmail.com if you're seriously interested. Thanks! Rich;)
  2. Ok, no response on this for a while. Anyone else interested? I'll drop the price to $160. Rich;)
  3. I sent you an email. Just let me know how you'd like to handle shipping. Thanks! Rich;)
  4. Hey all, I am selling a Garmin eTrex Legend C Outdoor Pack. I bought this in November and have used it ~35-40 times. The pack includes: - eTrex Legend C GPSr - MapSource US Topo software, including Alaska and Hawaii - Neoprene carrying case - Owner's Manual - Quick Reference Guide - PC/USB Cable - 12-volt adapter cable for use in your car - 2 lanyards, one that came with the pack and another Memorex one that I like better since it has a detachable clip The only thing not included that originally came with the pack is the handlebar mount, which I can't find at the moment. If I do find it, I'll be happy to include it. The GPSr is in excellent condition, with no noticeable scratches or other blemishes. I made a screen protector for it from a PDA screen protector. I paid $230 for this, and am asking $170. I wouldn't be selling this, but money is tight at the moment. I will ship anywhere in the US or Canada, with the buyer paying the price of shipping, via whatever method they prefer. I accept PayPal, money orders, cashier's checks and personal checks. Thanks! Rich;)
  5. Sometimes I cache by myself, but more than half the time I either have my wife and our dog, or my wife, our friends John & Janee and our dog. In the latter case we call ourselves Team Wylie after our beagle. I got John and Janee interested in it because they were looking for a reason to go out hiking or walking, and geocaching is a nice reason. You might try the Texas Geocaching Association for people to cache with, or see if there is an organization in your area. Here in the DFW area there is a Yahoo group that I've seen people looking for caching buddies on. Good luck! Rich;)
  6. I would actually add what I feel to be the most practical argument against these sorts of hides. The fact that it would likely not just be the hider, but also Groundspeak, named on the resulting, almost guaranteed win of a lawsuit. Remember, McDonald's paid $40,000,000 for the revelation that coffee is hot... Rich;)
  7. First thing is to make sure to go to the Garmin website and get the latest Mapsource upgrade. Once you have that, you should be able to open the .gpx files that you get from the website here. I believe the latest Mapsource is version 6.9.1. Rich;)
  8. This is my wife and I's new beagle Wylie. He's 9 months old and already has 8 cache finds to his name. This is a series of pictures of him with a lobster TB that we found while taking some friends of ours along for their first geocaching experience. Rich;)
  9. What he said. I spent a good hour plus trying to get the Web Updater to work before I finally got disgusted and just downloaded the software manually. After that it took mebbe 5 mins to get my Legend C updated. Web Updater is just not worth the time invested to get it to work correctly, IMO. Rich;)
  10. I'm pretty sure the case Brian is wearing is actually the one made by Garmin, since it looks almost exactly like mine. Another thing you can do to help prevent screen scratches is buy one of those Write Right screen protectors that are used for PDAs and cut it to fit the screen of your GPSr. There's a similar product that I see in the ads on the site, but the name is escaping me. Seems a mite expensive though, as you can buy a 10 pack of the Write Right protectors for around 3-5 USD. Rich;)
  11. I also have a Legend C, which I bought as part of the Legend C Adventure Pack. That comes with the GPSr, a carrying case, car adapter and Map Source US Topo. I like the Topo maps, but considering that I live in the DFW area, I wish I'd gotten City Select instead. If you live in a metropolis type area, I'd recommend Garmin Map Source City Select. If you live in a more rural area, Map Source Topo would probably suit you better. Rich;)
  12. The dog woke me up a little after 6, and I got to the park shortly after 8. I would have thought on a Sunday morning that would be early enough, but like I said there was some kind of soccer game going on at the park nearby and lots of spectators/family were there. The other times I've been to this park were in the middle of the day on Saturday and Sunday, so not too surprising there were people there. There are a couple of apt complexes nearby, and that's where I think a lot of the Muggles come from. It's a pretty spot to look out at the surrounding area. Thanks! Rich;)
  13. Heyla, I got up bright and early this morning, thanks to my wife and I's new beagle puppy, and decided to make a serious effort to do some geocaching. I'd gotten out a few times before, but didn't find anything, either do to darkness, puppy acting up or swarms of Muggles where I was hunting. Today was going to be different, though; I was determined. There's a park very close to where I live that has quite a few caches, so I went there with my printouts and my Legend C. I tried to find the first cache down the trail, but gave up after not searching very long, since some Muggles came wandering along. I went further down the trail and up a hill where there's a cache near the hilltop. Muggles there too, so I turned around and went to the furthest cache I had a printout for. I got the the general area of the cache when my GPSr started hopping all over the place for some reason. So I stuck it in my backpack and started looking all over the place. I searched for a good 15 minutes, climbing over barbed wire and poking a stick into likely looking holes, and was starting to get frustrated. Just when I was cursing my luck, I spotted under some leaves. I went over and there was my first cache found! I popped open the .30 cal ammo can and plopped on the cold, wet ground for a look at the treasures inside. After the frustration of earlier this morning and my previous trips out there, I was really thrilled to finally find a cache. :-) I took something, left something and signed the log. I went back down the trail and tried to get the hilltop cache again, but this time there were some teenaged Muggles up there, drinking beer and smoking something that smelled more than a little suspicious. I've officially given up on this cache and logged it as a DNF, even though I've yet to actually get a chance to hunt for it. So I went back to the first cache along the trail, and managed to find it after a short time hunting. Find #2! Again I was quite happy. Took something, left something and signed the log. I had the printout for one more cache in the area, so I went looking for it in a slightly different area than the first 3. Found this one without too much difficulty, thought there were quite a few thorny things in the area. This one was a George for a George cache, but I didn't really know what that was, so I just signed the log. There was a travel bug in there, so I took it. All in all, 3 out of 4 caches found and much fun had, even if I did have to sit and pick ticks off my pants while I was sitting in the drive thru at Wendy's hehe. Thanks for reading my long, rambley account of my first successful day of geocaching. What do you folks do when you come to a cache repeatedly and there's always Muggles about? I knew this one was an ammo can, so there wasn't much chance of getting it out inconspicuously. Thanks! Rich;)
  14. I think that was Geena Davis.....so ...... I guess that means JR has no redeeming value. That was Geena Davis, and she finished 24th out of 28 qualifiers for the Olympics. Julia Roberts has the redeeming quality of having a mouth so large she could swallow one of her own feet. That and she does voiceovers for AOL commercials... Rich;)
  15. Hey all, I am new to geocaching and GPSr's and would appreciate some advice. I've done a lot of looking around and reading specs and pricing for a GPSr. I think I've narrowed my choices down to either the Lowrance iFinder H20 Plus or the Garmin GPSMAP 60C. Which do you think would make a better GPSr for a newbie? I'm intending to use it mainly for geocaching and hiking/camping. Thanks! Rich;)
