  1. My boss corrupted me originally. Now when a new cache comes out in the local area around our work I corrupt him and my other co-worker to rush out from work to go get it. I am soooooo evil!
  2. If it is a FTF we log it as a team FTF but generally in the log we note who found it in reality. A normal cache we jut log as a find for each of us.

OHHH I like that. My boss and another co-worker love to know about each others adventures. This would be a great tool.
  4. Depends on the situation, the very first example I would have gone on and tried to find it. The only thing that I have turned around on so far without trying has been thin ice. To me if I go out the the area then it is a DNF even if I only searched 5 mins because of the dark.
  5. My opinion, as it is, is that ALL cahces are findable despite snow. Cavate to that is that it may take longer, more work, and a bit of creativity. I no longer look at the logs or the attributes for clues about the snow. I'll go out to the spot get to the cords and then begin looking around for where I think it might be (try to get in the mind of the hider) and start with the most obvious. Be prepared to log alot more DNF's with this tho.
  6. Uh - don't move caches unless you own them. As a finder, you can notify the owner if a social trail develops, so they can move the cache (and change the coordinates accordingly) I stay on trail for two reasons: 1) 99% of the time it's the easiest, most fun approach to the cache (unless you like briars, sticks in the eye and twisted ankles), 2) although the damage one person may do bushwhacking to a cache may be small, 50 people seeking the same cache can do considerable damage. Analogies to "hunters, wildlife photographers, orienteers, bird watchers, mushroomers, backpackers, etc" are not valid because they are not all going to the same exact spot and that does make a difference. I geocache because I like to be in natural looking settings (not "PC", just selfish motivation because that's what I like). If you prefer settings that look like Walmart parking lots, that's where you should cache (no worries about going off trail there! ). Kai the analogies work because like those listed I highly doubt cachers are all going to all take the exact same trail unless the area is extremely dense and there is only one way in. I knwo for the few caches I have visited I have taken different routes into each, each time.
  7. I'm also witht his camp. Before Geocaching I did (still do now I just combine the two) alot of photography and was off trail alot unless the park prohibited it. I will try to use deer trails and the like but I can tell you the best shots are the ones that you took the hard road out to and sat quietly waiting for somewhere of trail. I do try to look what is around and find the easiest path of least resistance and damage tho.
  8. I don't think this is just a newbie issue. First off each time someone visits, unless they are FTF, the cache will have changed slightly over time, ie sticks placed on top, dirt moved, tracks leading in and out, etc. This to me however is different then moving or rehiding in a different spot, which is totally unacceptable.
  9. Any one have this or tried it out for geocahcing? What do you think?
  10. There is one in our area that the box is locked and you have to find the key to get in it, an involved Multi that is a real treat for those who do it. It is in a snow covered area and the lock worked fine the cold day I went out.
  11. Okay to do paperless caching do you need a PDA to see the logs or are there GPS that allow you to download the logs and read them? If so which ones? Are there anyother devices that you can use to read the logs that is portable?
  12. Moe I totally agree with you. In this case it was a cache that I sought that part of it was to take a container and hide it.
  13. Mine is because generally I go out caching after work, as I work for the Military I wear Camo...thus camocacher.
  14. What about checking to see if it is a state item. MN has the Laker, looks similar to a TB but not loggable on GC.Com only on MNGCA. May be a similar situation.
  15. Thanks for the encouragment. Got a note from my local reviewer on a spot I wanted and it is good to go. I am so happy! I guess I let my bad day of caching get the better of me instead of looking for the positive.
  16. Okay I am extremely frustrated. But I AM having issues finding a place I CAN hide something. This is a thermos sized conatiner so its not small and needs a fairly large place for it which is hard to find in local city parks that won't get muggeled. Plus I want it to be a good hide for the seekers. I absolutly (on most days) hate where you can walk up and instantly KNOW where the cache is. The larger parks seem to be NPS so they are off limits. The few ones around seem to have a high contect of caches, which now I know why. On top of it now I understand why micros seem so abundent - easier to place. On top of that I had a crappy day seeking.
  17. Thanks I got an answer via private email
  18. Well my cahce was archived I am working with my local reviewer on it. Some maps indicate it is NPS land but NPS indicates it is not. Have removed this cache for now and will look for a new place to put it till the issue is clarified. The land itself is marked to be owned by the DNR n my area.
