  1. Have any of you had the pointer from the compass disappear? It is not there in either the "bearing" or "course" mode. Also, the "distance to destination" data fields do not work on the map or compass page. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for you help!
  2. Thanks for the replys. I just returned the Vista C and ordered a 60csx from chumbo. Should be here today. I'll let you know how it works.
  3. I just bought the Vista C, replacing a very old unit. We have not been able to test the Vista that much yet in heavy cover as there are no leaves out yet. With my old gpsr it was very frustrating when we were in the woods and reception was lost. I was hoping that the Vista would be better for the $249 I paid. But now I am wondering if I should return it and jump to the 60csx. Have any of you jumped and do you think the reception was worth it?
  4. I have purchased Cachemant and GSAK. I have gotten both of them running. Now I can get the reports from Geocaching.com to GSAK and from GSAK to my pda or gpsr, now the problem. After we find a cache and enter the info into the pda, is there a way to get that info back to GSAK and/or geocaching.com? Is GSAK mainly a program used to get info to the pda and gpsr, or do you use it for keeping track of all of your info on a cache..i.e. the fun finding it, the date and time, etc. And then do I have to manually enter that info into geo.com? We're not lazy...just guessing I am missing something. Thanks for your help.
  5. I tried Google Earth, but found it isn't very clear when I tried to get close enough to see. Then I joined Earth Plus but it wasn't any better.
  6. I just bought a Vista C. I will use this for caching with my son in Michigan. I thought of buying a topo map, but maybe that is more than I need. What I would like is a software program that allows me to see surroundings like streams, rivers, and roads all around the cache so that I have a good idea as the best way to access the cache as opposed to finding out after I get into the woods. Are these capabilities already on the GPSr or is there a software program available that I should load?
  7. I know you all are going to get mad that I am bringing this up. But I have been through the threads for 5 nights now and cannot find this comparison. I was settled on and ready to buy the Legend C. Then, of course, I found one more thread that talks about the problems with the Legend under tree cover. So I started looking at the Magellans that seem like they do better in that situation. They also seem to have more features for the buck. So, here we go. It needs to be used for simple geocaching only. I get very frustrated when my unit (very old) only gets us to within a baseballs throw to the cache. I need a very accurate unit that can hold the lock. It needs to be easy to use with the pc. I like the cost of the Legend and the 500. Am anxious for your replies. Thanks in advance for putting up with the debate this is going to cause.
  8. Does the tomtom just load onto the treo during a hot sync?
  9. Good topic. I was looking for this answer as well.
  10. For a weekend warrior, is it worth spending the cash on the Garmin 60cx? It's just my two kids and I hunting on vacations and gloomy weekends.
  11. Currently using Magellan Color Trak. We are tired of this unit being that it is so old. We do recreational caching and I am a hunter. I like the Rhino for the communication capabilities but am not adverse to carrying a separate unit for that. Is the new chip in the 60cx worth getting that unit? Or should I go after the Legend C?
  12. I am still using a Magellan Color Trak. I think this thing is probably 10 years old. My kids and I love hunting for cache's when on vacation and such. I have been contemplating purchasing a new unit, but all the posts make it confusing. Almost too much info for me to process. Sirf chip, no sirf chip...Legend C vs 60cx...so here is where a couple of you experts can help. 1) Should I upgrade? it seems we have trouble finding a cache a lot of the time. Will a new unit help? 2) what unit for a dad and kids looking for cache's? I was initially thinking about the Legend C. Any advice? I really would like a unit that locks pretty quick (mine takes minutes), can keep a signal fairly well in the woods (mine doesn't at all) and one that doesn't require me to constantly dance around. Thanks for helping keeping my kids happy.
  13. Thanks for your help. I believe I was going for something too big, now I'll look at packs a little smaller. Thanks again!!!
  14. Oh boy my head is spinning. My son has gotten me this far and I am reeling from reading all of your posts regarding what GPS to get. Still haven't decided. BUT....I think I have a question you all might be able to help me on. I have been looking for backpacks to carry all of the stuff I need on these hikes. Do I need one with a bladder or not, how big, how sturdy? Remember, I will probably be schlepping all of my kids stuff too. Will be heading out on the first adventure this weekend.
