  1. Reading some of the comments ( and revisiting the list of possible attributes), I see that there are actually already too many attributes and that another one isn't actually necessary. However, not everyone has the sense required to not drive in a plowed field... I guess the main point of my suggestion was to bring up a problem that I've noticed. I'm not saying that most Geocachers don't have the decency to respect others' land, but some unfortunately don't.
  2. I'm fairly new to Geocaching, but I've noticed that many caches in the country tend to be near fields plowed for crops. Some people ( I assume) don't realize when a crop is growing in a field and accidentally drive over planted crops which can hurt the plants. Usually fields aren't fenced- in, but they are still private property. I suggest that a " plowed field" attribute be added. This can help with people unknowingly driving through farmers' fields and ruining crops. Has anyone else noticed this problem?
  3. I'm 17 and still stuck there!
  4. By personal preference, I love the caches way out "in the sticks" that are tough to get to and take a bit of a hike ( Not through private property!) I dislike uncreative micros ( film containers in a random bush in a boring place), and high-traffic public areas where I have to avoid muggles.
  5. I might be, I'm still a high school student, though. When would one be?
  6. Im 17 and mainly go on my own. I introduced my family to it! I don't have many friends who are very interested in Geocaching, though. I just started in August, so I haven't even met any other Geocachers other than those who I recruited :/
  7. I'm from Kaufman. I'm not in any groups, but the more I get into Geocaching, I'm really starting to like the idea of joining one! My immediate area isn't too active with geocachers until I get closer into Dallas, though.
  8. Les Stroud. I like Bear, but he's been known to cheat by getting hotel rooms during the filming of his shows.
  9. In NE Texas, I mainly see water snakes, but I've seen them all my life so I almost ignore them! While Geocaching in a park around Oklahoma City, I did see some coyotes, though!
  10. I currently have two hides, but only 16 finds. I attribute this to my location having very few caches with a less-than-active community. ( I'm also 17 and gas is expensive at a cashier's salary ) However, both of my hides have positive reviews and I believe I did a good job making them. In the few finds I've logged, I've visited a variety of different cache types and have learned a lot about the game. I also understand how seriously the community takes cache quality, so I did my homework! I suggest that a test be made that the user must pass before being allowed to hide caches. It might show 4 different cache examples, and ask the user to pick the one which is not a quality cache according to GS guidelines.
  11. I think that's poison ivy, the leaves here in north Texas are a bit different. But a good general rule is the " leaves of three, let it be" that has been mentioned. We also have bullnettle, chiggers, poison oak, poison sumac, and lots of animals here that can be a real pain if you catch them!
  12. I'd definitely be interested in Al's signature item. What about pocket knives? ( Would the family friendly rule be an issue here?) I also have a pile a unused plastic rain ponchos still in original packaging that I got for free, would they be good to find? What about the chemical hand-warmers you find at the checkout line in Walmart?
  13. As the title says, I'm thinking about starting my own cache. I have a decent container to hide it in which should be easy to find. My question is what should I include in it? I read in the etiquette guide that most people leave some fairly good things for the FTF. Should I do this? About how many items should I include? Also, I have another question, but I don't want to start waste room making another thread. How do I know which land is open for the public to use? Fences around places are obviously private. But what about land without fences? How do I know whether I can hide a cache on it?
