  1. I found the tree but no cache. There was a pretty good heap of rotten wood at the base of the tree. I poked and raked with a stick. If I get a chance, I'll go back with a trench tool. This a popular area for night fishing and seems to be the restroom. I'd guess the cache and travel bug are the property of a non cacher or in the lake.
  2. That is the one. Thank you Keystone Approver for the effort. Good to hear from you MITW.
  3. MITW, we won't be in Dunbar. I have some farming to do and Catman is Elk hunting in Wyoming. We may be talking about the same cache, but I thought it was in Raliegh county.
  4. It wasn't approved, maybe even applied for. The cache hider had second thoughts and wanted a local to take over responsibility.
  5. A while back, a geocacher emailed me asking if I would check on a cache they had hidden in my area. They said it was placed on a trip and couldn't be cared for. There was also a travel bug in the cache. I finally got time to do what I was asked but have lost the coords. Could the cacher please re-email their message?

    Atv Trails?

I only approve of atv use on private property if the land owner consents. There is a huge problem with tresspassing in my area. Check out this link it may pertain to your ideahttp://www.trailsheaven.com/
  7. Summersville is the unofficial border between southern WV and northern WV. It also happens to be a notorious speep trap. So it is only fitting that the Summersville P.D. be the "border patrol".
  8. I'll have to renew my passport to get through Summersville, but Sutton sounds good to me. Does the border patrol still guard I-19?
  9. Is anyone else having problems with the wv state parks website? I haven't been able to get on it or the dnr page in the last couple days.
  10. Just saw this updates to this thread. The states page looks great. I downloaded their application. I guess I should apply for permits for the one's I've already hidden. I didn't see anything about a grandfather clause. Thanks to everyone for their hard work on this matter.
  11. It doesn't look good. TMP sent me a picture and it sure looks like the right tree. The hollow area is empty. If any of you have a good picture of the hiding spot, I'd like to see it. It seems someone in the area is enjoying our game at our expense. Maybe they can't read the writing in the box and thought it was their lucky day. I'll go back to the top if need be. If it ain't there, the replacement won't go back on that knob. Maybe one of the briar thickets over the hill. Only one of us with a gps, a set of coords, and a loose screw would go in there.
  12. You'll notice I have taken back my scathing remarks. I was euphoric from the event when I make my remarks. There is a feeling of pride when you get home knowing you made it back to brag about the climb. Now my buzz has worn off and my leg are starting to ache. Though I will certainly get funny looks, I won't rule out a future return. It seems, when you volunteer to adopt 'Hatfields View', an arguement is hard to find. Puter, best wishes. I hope the cache thief doesn't come back before you do.
  13. Nice pictures Mike. You really caught the mood on the mountaintop. Everyone lost a lot of sweat. What was the final count on bleeders?
  14. I'm glad to hear everyone made it off the mountain. It was getting dark when we pulled out. Coming down is almost as tough as the climb. Some of the rock would be bad a night. Sorry to hear you are offended Puter, you made the climb once, I'm sure you could have done it again if your schedule had allowed. My comments were a pat on the back for those who made it and an open challenge for those who will follow. You'll notice soon that there are now two caches on the hill (twice the reason to climb).
  15. It has been climbed. Despite the weather, bugs, and briars, 7 of us made the climb. To every one who made the climb, good job and I enjoyed your company. To those who backed out, (couldn't make it) we missed you company. You'll have a chance to experience the pain. There is now a new cache on the mountain for anyone who thinks they have what it takes. It should be available within a few days. [This message was edited by jeepman74 on September 01, 2003 at 07:14 PM.]
  16. Dead end! I went back today to check the once prosective "road". It ended halfway to the top at a gas well. Apparently what I saw on Terra Server were old log roads and a gas line. They may have been fresh in 96 when the airials were taken. So it looks like I'll be in the number hiking the hill. I read Doug's story. Tough time Doug. I may live closest to the cache, so I'll vounteer for the cache adoption unless one of the others want it. See you'ns sunday(first at the cememtary, then waiting for you on top)
  17. I plan on going if something major doesn't arise. I'm pretty sure Catman is in, he's picked up a few cache items. I just haven't decided if I'm walkin' or ridin'. I'm going to do a little Terra server research.
  18. I was by ol Anse's resting spot today. I've got some bad news, some better news, and some incomplete news. The bad news is, if the road comes in from Stirat, it is blocked by a high fence and a security guard. The better news is, if it comes in from the north, I found a road that would put you on the right ridge withing 1 mile. The unfinished news is, with the heavy rain and the fact that I was technically working, I couldn't follow the road out. If I get a break between now and then, I'll gas up the Jeep and see where I wind up. If it goes through, anyone with a jacked up, rust and primer jeep with big tires and some ponies under the hood can follow.
  19. I'll be in the area tommorrow with work. If I get a chance, I'll try to find out something on the road. I may have the combination or a key, it depends on if it's coal-gas property or private property. I never noticed a road near the top. As for the rock, we went straight (straight up the rock). I know there were no nettles there, just some poison ivy, some lizards, and two wildmen. P.S. should we bring flowers for Anse (and those who don't make it)?
  20. I know several of you know about the proposed return to Hatfields cache (10 have it on their watch list). So far everyone who has found it/looked hard for it is accounted for except Toolman. I think it would be nice to get Doug A. on board as well. We could get him to the top and beat him up. I'd like to see some new adventurers go as well. The topic is being discussed on the cache page at the moment. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=4722&log=y&decrypt= Maybe we could get a date established here. Any suggestions?
  21. Despite the weather, the picnic was a blast. I was glad to put some faces and personalities with the names. Everyone was really nice. That is uncommon for a group of strangers meeting for the first time. I look forward to the next one. I may have to host one myself. We enjoyed the company on the trail to Man in the wild's new cache. I hope to run into a few of you on some other caches.
  22. We're our own country, cause the north don't want us and the south won't take us back.
  23. Sounds like a great idea! I could probably rouse Catman76 into participating. Like everyone else, any sunday would be great. We're from Wyoming county, I hope that is close enough to Charleston.
  24. Geocachers John & Linda encountered a cache guardian on a cache I helped catman76 put out. More vultures, this time with an egg. Check out their log on 'Pinnacle Rock Cache'. web pagehttp://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=23048
