  1. I had asked the same question about a month ago. I had spoke with garmins tech support and was told as long as I didn't install the gps 18 that I would have 2 unlock codes. Well, he was wrong. I called garmin back and they did verify that I was told that. Garmin removed my gps 18 from their data base and installed both of my 60 csx serial numbers so I could load the maps to my GPSs. Then I plugged my gps 18 in and it still worked. I loaded the mapsource and nroute software on a second computer, used the unlock information from garmin's website and my gps 18 still worked. I have come to the conclusion that the 18 doesn't need an unlock code to work in NRoute. I also have another garmin user that I cache with and I plug my 18 in and his CS and NRoute recognise the GPS 18. The GPS 18 is a great receiver for the price.
  2. I was out caching this morning and I had a hard time with my 60 csx locking on and showing that sats were weak. I was up to 60' off of the cache sites on a couple of caches this morning. It can get frustrating.
  3. When viewing you sat page, press menu and select color. Atleast that is the way my 60 csx works.
  4. Just a quick note. The Garmin CSX series units do not interface nicely with Mapsource or NRoute for real time tracking. Garmin is working on a patch for the problem. My gps 18 is alot more accurate than my csx.
  5. I also have had great experience with Garmin. I ordered two 60 CXSs. One for my Dad and one for me. I had contacted Garmin with questions about the unit. After about 10 minutes of conversation and having all my questions answered politely, the tech who had taken care of me sent me two car adapters for free. I know the CSX units are expensive and I feel that they should come with better software or some type of accessories. I bought the units knowing that I was only going to get just the units. Hats off to Garmin and many, many thanks for their gift and great tech support I have recieved.
  6. The answer to the question about a lowrance is it almost went into the creek while geocaching in the parks. I had just got my new 60 csx and my work budy just recieved his Lowrance hunter c. While hiking in the woods he kept asking me what the coordinates were that my csx was reading. After about 10 minutes of the annoying questions I asked him why he kept asking me for the coor. He replied that the Lowrance had only locked onto one sat. About another 10 minutes had passed and I had noticed that he wasn't even close to the cache we were looking for. I asked him what his gps was reading and he replied "I don't know. I left it somewhere on a rock back there about 5 min. ago because it would't lock onto anymore sat. and I was getting ready to throw it in the creek." Needless to say, the lowrance was returned and a 60 csx was bought to replace the lowrance that just did't perform under tree coverage. I am sure there are many stories about all manufactures gps units. Happy hunting. Wiiiillllmaaa!!!! WERE'S my gps!!!!
  7. The answer to my own question is I have one unlock code to use. The GPS 18 is shipped fully unlocked. Thanks to Garmin Tech support for telling me I would be able to unlock both of my 60 csx with the CS software first as long as I didn't us the GPS 18. I then found out that wasn't the case. I called Garmin back and after 20 minutes and being put on hold to verifiy my story with the tech I was back in business. Garmin had deleted the GPS 18 and replaced it with my second 60 csx serial number. I was pleased. The CitySelect was cheaper with the GPS 18 bundle. I then loaded both 60 csx with maps and away I went. Mapping worked just fine. I next loaded NROUTE software and plugged my GPS 18 into my USB port, selected USB 18 for the device and whaammmooo, gps info popped up. Sitting in my livingroom, the GPS was tracking 5 to 8 sats and atleast 1 waas sat and a accuracy of 9'. I had to try out the GPS 18 and laptop. I took it for a short 3 mile spin. It tracked great, recalculate quickly and spoke promptly. I don't know if this is a mistake with the software or that the GPS 18 doesn't need an unlock code to work with NROUTE software. If I look at my unlock device in NROUTE, it shows my two 60 csx units. I guess I got the 3 unit deal for the price of two. It is unfortunate that the units don't come with more software included for the price that the units cost. Thanks to Garmin tech support for taking care of the problem. I have spoken with tech support 3 times. They have been polite, and professional. I have even been sent a nice little present to use in my automobiles for both my 60 csx. It sure does save on the batteries. Outstanding!!!
  8. I just orderd a Garmin GPS 18 which includes the CS V.7. I also have two Garmin 60 Csx that were purchased last month. Does the GPS 18 require an activation code to use with my computer? The 60 Csx at this time does not interface with the gps mode and real time tracking. I am going to install the mapping software on two handheld gps. Can I still us the GPS 18 to interface and track or will I have to buy another unlocking code? This is my first experience with Garmin mapping program.
  9. I am 20 miles south of Cle. I have seen Satellite 33 several times with no lock on. I have not seen 35 at all. Several people I Cache with have not been locked on to any WAAS sat. We are using 60 csx, 76 cs, and blue tooth pda setup. I have had accuracy down to 9' without WAAS. Not to bad. But most of the time, accuracy is usually around 14'. I am looking forward to a lock on a WAAS and see how accurate the 60 csx can be. Happy Hunting. Willlllmmmaaa were's my DINNER!!!!!
