  1. We are only using found logs posted to GC.com. If the GC datasheet does not show a setting number, you may link to the NGS datasheet to show the setting number. If the datasheet (GC.com original datasheet OR the NGS datasheet) shows no setting number, then that mark does not qualify for the contest. Per FV1654, your previous visit was a DNF, so you can use it for the contest. (note: If you do NOT find the station mark it is a DNF.) UNK1
  2. Here is the first post of the scoreboard. If you don't see a score that you think you should have gotten, please check your PMs for a message letting you know what the judges thought. You could also PM UNK1 and ask about what is missing. UNK1
  3. No disk is a not found. Those would be found a setting of some sort, but without the disk it is a Not Found. UNK1
  4. Sorry, Contest sign up has closed and the contest is in full swing. The rules stated that the benchmarks from the GC site only would be used. UNK1
  5. The rules only require the GPSr in the photo for none disk benchmarks such as chiseled squares, bolts, rivets, etc, that have no markings. UNK1
  6. If you have a picture showing the stamping/designation (hopefully clear enough to read so the mark can be verified) then feel free to use it in the contest. UNK1
  7. Trucker Lee has been added to the scorecard. UNK1
  8. I posted a revised rule for the monumentation bonuses yesterday. They are repeated here........ Quote "I could not edit the above post due to the 24 hour rule, so here is the final version on the bonuses. A revision to the bonus rules: Bonus scoring will be for the following criteria. Bonus points for getting 9 different settings - 10 points Bonus points for getting 18 different settings - 25 points Bonus points for getting 27 different settings - 60 points Bonus points for getting all 36 different settings 150 points Bonus points for monument date of "UNK" - 25 points (ONLY 1 benchmark of each setting number) Bonus points for monument dates pre-1960 - 5 points (ONLY 1 benchmark of each setting number) Bonus points for monument dates pre-1935 -10 points (ONLY 1 benchmark of each setting number) Bonus points for monument dates pre-1900 - 15 points. (ONLY 1 benchmark of each setting number) Monument dates are when the benchmark was set (from the GC.com pages). Note, you cannot claim pre-1900, pre-1935, and pre-1960 bonus all for the same benchmark! You can only claim one bonus per benchmark monumentation. You can only claim each monumentation bonus once for each setting number. Note that there are 4 different monumentation bonuses meaning a maximum of 4 bonuses per setting type." End Quote I had removed the "First only" requirement from this updated rule. The standard scoring is 10 points for the first recovery of that particular setting, so you will always get 10 points the first time you make a recovery for a setting you had not previously found. Does this help? UNK1

  10. was added. I think you should consider removing that. My reasoning for this is as follows - when doing my research for marks around me, I had at least one "UNK" monumentation date for every setting. Now, unless others can come here and say that they DON'T have this, for me it's easy to assume that all us contestants would have this situation. Okay, so tht being said, if we can only get one monumentation bonus per setting, obviously everyone would wait until they got an UNK date and claim that one. That would make the scores pretty even all around, leaving it more to who finds more. I figure that if us contestants could get one of EACH monumented date bonus on each setting(*), then it would spread out the scores a little more. Just a thought. I'm still sick, and my girl has locked the front door and took my key. (*) - For example, let's say I find 3 setting 36's. One was monumented in 1945, one in 1903, the last in 1973. I could claim the <1960 on the 1945 one, the <1933 bonus on the 1903 one, and no bonus on the 1973 one. The intent of this contest is to focus on settings. If I allow multiple bonuses per settings, then it is just an age related contest which has already been done. I will however change the rule to allow the monumentation bonus to used at the finders discretion, but retain the 1 bonus per setting number. UNK1
  11. If nobody objects, I will add your name to the list. UNK1
  12. Here is a link to the "wand type metal detector" that Klemmer is donating as a prize for the contest. It is used, but he says it is in very good condition. After discussions with him it has been decided that the person who finds the most DNFs will get the detector. To claim a find for a DNF the last (most recent) log on the benchmark page must be a "Did Not Find" or "Destroyed" log. UNK1
  13. Welcome to the contest! Only the Setting (class) will be used. This is the number preceding the description of the setting. 10 points will be awarded for each setting when getting the benchmark of a particular setting (number) the First time. 1 point for each additional find for that particular setting. When you log a find for setting #7 (for example) you will get 10 points for the first benchmark with that setting and 1 point for each additional benchmark with that setting. Finding 7 benchmarks with that setting (#7) would then score you 16 points - 10 points for the first one and 6 points for the other six benchmarks (1 point per benchmark). All scoring will be based on the following list at the end of this post and using the Setting (Class) NUMBER. Code (description) may vary, but the NUMBER will be the deciding factor. If the GC.com page does NOT show the number you will need to click on the "view original datasheet" link to verify the setting number. Bonus scoring will be for the following criteria. Bonus points for getting 9 different settings - 10 points Bonus points for getting 18 different settings - 25 points Bonus points for monument date of "UNK" - 25 points (ONLY for the FIRST benchmark of each setting number) Bonus points for monument dates pre-1960 - 5 points and pre-1935 -10 points and pre-1900 - 15 points. (ONLY for the FIRST benchmark of each setting number) Monument dates are when the benchmark was set (from the GC.com pages). Note, you cannot claim pre-1900, pre-1935, and pre-1960 bonus all for the same benchmark! You can only claim one bonus per benchmark monumentation. You can only claim 1 monumentation bonus for each setting number, so choose wisely when to log your finds. Handicap for those in the cold frozen north - Post a picture of the benchmark with the ground covered in snow and get a 5 point bonus for the first benchmark of each setting number and a 1 point bonus for all others. The ground MUST be covered with snow to get the bonus. You will be required to post a clear picture of the benchmark on the log and link to the benchmark page when posting a claim in the contest. You can log benchmarks that YOU have NOT found in the past year. You may log recoveries older than 1 year as notes for the contest with new pictures. If you log a benchmark that is not a disk showing the designation you will need to have a "Clear" photo of the mark and have your GPSr showing the coordinates and it must be clear enough to read. If it is a chiseled mark, be sure that it can be seen in the picture you post. You must be signed up prior to the start of the contest. Contest will run from March 15th until June 15th. Sign up will run 30 days prior to the start of the contest. There will be a separate thread for logging your finds for the contest. This thread will be started at the beginning of the contest. UNK1's decisions will be final. There will be other judges to make sure UNK1 doesn't miss anything. Have the first link go to the GC.com benchmark page so we can look at the pictures you posted and verify the claim. If the GC page does not have the setting number showing, then please post a link to the Original Datasheet (you will need to click on the "View original datasheet" link on the GC benchmark page to be able to set up that link.) Your post should look like this...... FV0004 Z24 -- Setting 38 15points -- first for setting #38 Plus snow bonus for 15 points (this is a sample only). To view the prizes Click Here Please use this thread only for logging your finds. Thank you. Good luck and have fun, UNK1 Added color
  14. I will have the final set of rules (including the scoring) ready and will post them tomorrow (Sat. the 14th) along with the logging thread and how I would like the links to be done. UNK1
  15. You mean that you would like to have the card reader or maybe the autographed picture of HOPI? If the person who comes in, in that position (you are interested in) is willing to trade, I have no objections. UNK1
  16. I have the pictures ready for most of the prizes. For first place - Bronze coin - closed front back Second place - Third place - Fourth place - Fifth place - medallion Sixth place- lapel pin Last place or there abouts - Klemmer has donated a wand type of metal detector for a finishing position yet to be decided. And don't forget that last place gets the autographed picture!! Enjoy UNK1
  17. .. Wait, if the station is in the ground, you would have to clear the snow off of it to see it in the picture. But then, the ground wouldn't be covered in snow. So it's a catch-22! Aargh. You have some faulty logic there. The benchmark is not part of the ground, also not all benchmarks are set at ground level. UNK1
  18. Here are a couple of revisions to the rules. Bonus points for getting 9 different settings - 10 points Bonus points for getting 18 different settings - 25 points There will be a handicap for those in the cold frozen north - Post a picture of the benchmark with the ground covered in snow and get a 5 point bonus for the first benchmark of each setting number and a 1 point bonus for all others in the snow. The ground MUST be covered with snow to get the bonus. UNK1
  19. ... what's for last place? An autographed picture of the HOPI benchmark paperweight! UNK1
  20. I've been asked if the "HOPI" paperweight could be used for the second place winner. Hmmmmm..... UNK1
  21. Here are pics of a couple of the prizes for the contest. The disks are 3 1/4" in diameter. Will post other pictures later. Forgot to mention that these are paperweights.
  22. That makes sense to me. We will do it that way for the contest. UNK1
  23. Bill, I hadn't posted the format yet. I was going to do that when I started the new thread for logging your finds. It will be a simple process to log your finds. You will need to post a link to the GC.com benchmark page with your log on it. The name of the link will be --- the PID#, the designation for the benchmark, the setting Number on the benchmark page, and the monument date if you wish to collect a bonus for the monument date. For example it would look like this FV0004, Z 24, #38, 1920. In addition to the previous link you would need to include the link to the "view original datasheet" for GC.com since no setting number is shown on the benchmark page. Like this setting #38. If there are any other questions, now is the time to ask them, before the contest starts. UNK1
  24. Yes Can you use them in This contest? Maybe UNK1
