  1. Perhaps it's those rose-colored-glasses? (just kidding ) v6 CS is there, just have to look....
  2. From the Subject/tag line, that's the reason I clicked on this thread... Otherwise I have no knowledge of who Kerry is. I do however respect the opinions of EraSeek and therefore would be inclined to believe Kerry's point has some merit.
  3. Based upon what I know about you (next to nothing).... I'll assume you are pretty bright..... like me 76CS is your answer. 115Mb of Map memory color screen is VERY good Auto-routing The rest is just gravy..... like geocaching mode, calender, etc.... Sensors.... some don't like them (most of them have never tried them) I LIKE THE ELECTRONIC COMPASS for Caching!
  4. 76cs was an easy choice for me. I'll take double the memory any day!!!! The size of the 76CS is perfect for me, my hands, my RAM mounts, pockets have not been an issue. They appear to have nearly or identical features. I LIKE the buttons on the top. With your hands holding/wrapped around the GPS, where are your thumbs? On top! It floats! I tried the 60 series in the store and did NOT like the shape & button location. I had a 76s before this and DID USE and ENJOY the compass while caching, hiking & canoeing primarily. YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY!
  5. I can't say I need the compass on every hunt as some are easier than others, but the better the hide, the more I use the compass built into the 76CS. I also had a 76s with compass and liked it. I also use the compass while canoeing for taking visual sight-n-go readings and comparing to maps. Other than geocaching, hiking & canoeing, I do not use the compass (i.e. driving).
  6. From The GPS Store Under $10. I had a GPS Store case for my 76s and liked it. I bought a case from GPSgeek for my new 76CS.
  7. Look Here for 60C specific RAM Mounts.... The weighted base has a flexible LEAD core and conforms to any surface. Its rubber surface is tacky and does NOT slide. We move from vehicle to vehicle very quickly with this mount. And, when you are parked, you just grab the mount off the dash, tuck it on the floor next to the seat and it's out of site. When you get back in the vehicle, you're ready to go in about two seconds. I bought the weighted base outside of the kit shown, because I already had a ram cradle for my gps. I mounted the ball right to the base and use my coupling arm to vary both the height and angle of the gps on my dash. Imagine this mount.... only replace the u-clamp with the wieghted base and that's what I have. I also mounted my cradle upside down from the picture shown, so it's not so high on the dash. Most of the time I have the GPS hanging just over the front edge of the dash. VERY Highly recommended!!! We tried and returned the suction mount. We like the weighted base MUCH better. You could also go this route: I have all the pieces shown w/exception to the RAM-A-Can piece. I may attach a spare 1" ball plate to a piece of wood or Aluminum tucked in a can-coozie to make my own mount like shown.
  8. My father has a GPSMAP 196 (I believe it's the same size as the 176). I took it to Walmart and found a perfect case for it in the hunting section at Walmart, and yes it was camo. I wanted a bag for his antenna, dash mount, and other accessories. I found the perfect bag in the purse section at walmart. The small camo case an all the cords, etc. go into the 'purse'. If you see my father, don't tell him his GPS flight bag is a purse. Or is that a Man-bag?
  9. After having my 76CS for another week or so, I am happy to report satellite lock is quite good. We've been getting nothing but rain since then and the lock has been very good in aquiring the satellites and keeping them locked in. My first experience must have been a very thick storm or bad satellite alignment or ???? S_it happens! And NO, the 76series is NOT to big (IMHO)
  10. If it was me and my coin (and it was) I went with the 76. I'll take double the memory any day, not to mention it floats (and I paddle a canoe). Also, IMHO, I like the buttons on top, after all, my thumb is on top of my hand when I am holding the gps for one handed operation. I had the 76s for two years and never once wished it was smaller. Here's a nice shot of the relative size and a post on the Topic. -- Picture of relative size of 60cs / 76cs... 76 series dimensions: 6.2 x 2.7 x 1.4 60 Series dimensions 6.1 x 2.4 x 1.3 As you can see, they are roughly the same size with the 76series having the antenna enclosed and the 60 series having the 'rhino' look. I know and understand there are many who prefer the 60 series size. I respect that. This is just my $0.02 worth.
  11. I need quick and dirty help in choosing what I want to use for my new 76CS. Here's what I historically used with my old 76s: * EasyGPS to download caches. * Mapsource to manage my waypoints, routes, maps, etc. NOW, I have a 76CS (and don't plan to incorporate the palm and don't have a premium membership) * I do have a serial cable as well as the USB cable. * What 's the best software for getting as much cache data, descriptions, etc. into the 76CS? * Seemless, avoiding as much multiple applications as possible. * EasyGPS still works. Is there something better I should use that would REPLACE Easygps?
  12. Yes, but you can only view one mapset at the same time. You can toggle between the two through 'setup map' You simply highlight the desired map sections on Mapsource (topo & city select) and download to gps as normal...
  13. I have City Select v5 and Topo loaded on my 76CS. I would like to toggle between viewing Topo/City Select. Is there a quicker way than: Menu-Setup Map- <left/or right-> - Menu - Show xxxx ?? Thanks
  14. For those shopping or those who have not noticed the FIND feature of being able to change your REFERENCE POINT for Find-Nearest- (waypoint, hotel, etc...) The CHANGE REFERENCE allows you to search for the nearest hotel in say the west part of Green Bay while currently driving through say Des Moines. Very Cool and useful.... I've wanted that since day one on my 76s.... Glad it's here on my 76CS.
  15. My 76cs is wonderful. However, it is losing lock in the care a LOT more than my 76s ever (or is that NEVER) did!!! What gives? It is raining here today, but it wasn't raining this morning and still it lost satelite while on my dash mount holder. My 76S never had a problem while in this car! Anybody out there have a similar problem or experience? ( I am running the latest [1st] firmware update from Garmin)
  16. The zoom scale on the bottom of the screen should say "Mapsource" under if if you are viewing any of the Mapsource products. You can also, from the map page, hit 'menu', 'setup map' and use the center pad to navigate over to the mapsource page to see what maps you have loaded as well as which you have turned on.
  17. I think you are mostly correct. I bet the hardware is the same and the firmware only has minor differences. If you've ever seen the post showing a picture of the guts of a 76S and then look at a 60 series, you'll see they are nearly the same size. 76 series encases the antenna entirely and the 60 series has the Rhino-like antenna sticking out of it's case. This minute amount of extra volume is why the 76 floats and the 60 sinks. I would love to see the guts of one of any GPS could you post the link? Link to picture of the inside of a 76s (note: not a 76C or 76 CS)
  18. Especially on the map page, I liked the small font option on my 76s. On the 76CS, it apears I am stuck with a larger font size (similar to the med. font on the 76s). Can I adjust the size of the text somewhere on the 76C(s) or I assume the same is true on the 60C(s)? I don't see it on the setup screen either for the map page or the main setup menu?????

  20. Ditto, Even though the Trip and Waypoint had been installed. XP still wants the drivers, so do as referenced above and all worked out well for me!
  21. That's a surprise. The Garmin website states "Loading charts or maps is faster, too — thanks to a reliable USB connection. Navigation instructions can be shared with repeaters, plotters, and autopilots using NMEA protocols through the dedicated serial port as well." The quote above is CORRECT.... IT DOES HAVE A SERIAL PORT. It does NOT ship with a serial CABLE. If you don't have one, GPSgeek is a good source.
  22. Go to this site for 60Cx specific RAM mounts.... I have an really like the weighted base. I also have few U-bolt clamps mounted on bikes. I use an extra 'diamond plate' for use on my canoe. RAM is a great system, and economical especially if you have more than one use... I have a ball mounted directly on my weighted base and use my double-link-female piece to go between the cradel and the weighted base. This gives it one more degree of freedom for placement of various heights and angles from higher to below the base plane.... works VERY well!
  23. IT'S HERE ! My 76 CS arrived today via Brown... Way to go TVNav.com !!!! If you haven't dealt with Darell and Glenda at TVNav, you're missing out as all they do is GPS and they know it well. Great Customer Service, great prices, fast delivery, quick to receive new models. Mark from MN P.S. the 76CS has a Geocache feature... not sure if it's the same as the 60CS, because I've had it out of the box all of an hour now (while watching the Wolves take game 7!), but that's one surprise! Can you tell I am happy to Finally get my new 76CS and end my GPS-less streak!
