  1. If it's any help... my husband refers to this as "geek hide 'n' seek" He's been caching with my daughter and me just once and just doesn't get it.

  3. We started caching 4 years ago when my daughter was two. We were a team/cast of 5. Three have since moved on to either get their own accounts or not cache at all anymore (I know...who does that?) Now that my daughter is 6, literate and quite linguistically aware, she has decided to take offense at our team name and would like to be known otherwise. I remember changing out team name once a long time ago when we first started and had only found about 4 caches under out collective belt but can't seem to remember where that link is. Can someone help us out? Thanks so much N of the soon to no longer be around CowTippinIdiots
  4. Hi! I am working on a history project for school children and history enthusiasts that happens to combine my geocaching hobby. I was wondering if anyone from Central Ontario was travelling to China anytime in the future who could help us out with logging a travel bug for us? It's a great little project that I really hope will encourage kids to learn more about the First Nations of Huronia and their individual stories. (the individual unfortunately gets lost in history unless they do something incredibly amazing or terribly horrific, there were a lot of average joes in history who were along for the ride!) Email me for more information! Thanks so much!! N of the Cow Tippin Idiots

  7. I work for a small regional museum on Southern Georgian bay in Ontario. We would like to find someone who would be willing to take a Travel Tag with Travel Bug attached and set it free in China with the destination of our home town. There is a historical element to this, so please contact me for details! Thanks so much!
  8. Did anyone ever see that episode of Law and Order where the victim was lured out a wooded area on the outskirts of New York only to be murdered? ....... Just thought I would mention it... 10. I not only cache in these forests with my 3-year old daughter, but also choose to simply take walks in these forests as well...NOT ANYMORE! I am sickened by this. Not to mention any names...but my other half was talking to some hunters last year and asked them if they got anything. The response was "no, we didn't get anything...we just got some sound shots off." My other halfg did not know what sound shots were and naively asked for an explanation, which was...."we heard something and shot at it." Now this was further north of here (around Huntsville) where I KNOW there are other caches to be found, avid hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. I am not against hunting at all. I really enjoy eating wild game but really...there was no need for that lady to die in our forests. If a hunter can't make certain that he or she is indeed taking aim at wild game, then don't pull the trigger. I don't think we need gun control...we need moron control.... We also need a ministry of the environment that promotes healthly lifestyles for Ontarians by caring for hikers (even when they carry GPS units) who chose to get exercise in beautiful countryside and forests. There really needs to be signs posted at the entrance way to these forests. I totally forgot that hunting season had begun until I heard the sad story of that lady. Sorry for the strong words...I have been out in this forest series lately with my daughter and can only imagine the worst happening now....too bad this healthly past time is being ruined for us...hope I didn't offend anyone with this. 11. I have only done this for a few months now (AND LOVE IT) and I don't have that many caches completed compared to so many other seasoned geocachers I see here but.... The cache in question made me wait to see what other people found there, particularly since I geocache with kids in tow quite often. I hate to say it but when a cache looks suspicious like that, it really takes the fun out of it. There was another geocache in our region (30 minutes from the cache in question) where I was about to get out of my car with my two year old and thankfully saw the man hiding in the bushes where the geocache was located. When I went back with my friend the next day (large male friend - he likes it when I call him that) there were no footprints in the snow to the geocache, he really was just a man hiding in the bushes...who knows what he was up to... It would be great if everyone could make an attempt to be apparent about what they are doing when they post geocaches. I don't know who it is who posted the geocache being discussed, but I think it is reasonable to expect some transparency to this system. It would also be the responsible thing to do. I don't mean criticism or harm..I just really like this activity and would like it to remain safe and fun! N of the CowTippinIdiots!
  12. You see...batteries...I have been lucky so far that the batteries have needed changing in the car before we head out or after...never during! thanks! (more stuff for my pockets!) keep 'em coming.. Post Script: the cache that was posted by a "poster" without any history was located yby a few people already. It appears to be ok...isn't it a sad world where we have to worry about these things?? Thanks for the input, N of the Cow Tippin Idiots
  13. Hi Everyone, I just got into this sport in November 05 (yes I do believe it is a sport) and I thought there should be some discussion on safe geocaching. i have already found myself in a few situations, where I wished I had had the wisdom of experience on my side to keep myself and my daughter safe during our ventures. (e.g. suspicious looking people hanging out in the park bushes where there is a geocache) I also noticed a new cache in my area where the "poster" has no history of ever having found any caches. There may be many good reasons for this, but I decided to leave that cache until others had gone or the "poster" made their reasons clear for doing this. I mean....who hasn't seen the Law and Order episode on Geocaching...... My lessons so far: 1) let people know where you are going 2) walk/drive/boat/swim away from a geocache when you don't feel safe about the other people around...even though they may just be doing the exact same thing you are... 3) Take lock-de-icer with you in your pockets when you head out. Who knows what your locks are going to do by the time you get back since your vehicle moved from grarage to road so quickly in minus 16...(figured that one out today) Who has some tips? Anyone? Would love to hear them! N of the Cow Tippin' Idiots
