  1. GPS Status won't give you a more accurate fix. It just displays what it receives from the GPS, just like any other app (including c:geo) does.
  2. For those of you who don't like the idea of giving your cell number out, you can sign up for a Google voice number that you can give out and it will forward to your cell phone.
  3. So what if the user has to locate a particular type of webpage or application that already exists to solve a puzzle. Is that allowed?
  4. I carry either a Glock 19 with a +2 clip that gives me 17+1 in the pipe or a KelTec P32.
  5. We got stopped this week. Was in a valley and they rode up on their bikes and yelled "Gwinnett Police, can you meet me at the top of the hill?" I went up, ID in hand, and just explained that we were geocaching. They both knew what it was and just asked to see the GPS/Phone/Printout that had the cache description. He looked at it and then just said they were checking to make sure everything was OK. They rode off and said "be careful out there" and that was it.
  6. You "retrieve" from a cache if you pull it from the current cache that it's listed in. You usually "grab" it from a person or if you find it in the wild not in the proper cache.
  7. I'm not going to report him...I'm not the cache gestapo. I just wanted to get a feel for what others' opinions were since it is against the letter of the Groundspeak "law".
  8. There is a FB user that says they have placed their second hide and found a whopping seven caches saying that it's "not bad for a newbie working without a GPS". Another guy posted saying that he uses Google maps to hide and then get the coordinates. Since the community as a whole frowns against hides placed with smartphones, what is the general consensus of hides placed with no GPS whatsoever? Seems to be this method is even more inaccurate than Smartphones since Google Maps (especially the sat view) is sometimes not georeferenced correctly.
  9. Allow an event cache to have a start time, end time, and timezone specified that would set the correct time in the calender import file. It would be nice to have the proper times show up when adding an event cache to your calender.
  10. The Georgia DNS has done the same thing in state parks. They own the listing, but have "stewards" to monitor and maintain the caches.
  11. Allow an event cache to have a start time, end time, and timezone specified that would set the correct time in the calender import file. It would be nice to have the proper times show up when adding an event cache to your calender.
  12. It didn't sound like they were making it retroactive.
  13. Just heard on Podcacher...they were interviewing Brian at Groundspeak and he said they are planning on doing a leap year souvenir.
  14. I made some gel "packs" with burlap. Put it in a waterproof case just as good measure. You can buy the stuff at a crafts store and then use pretty much anything to make a pack. Panty hose, a sock, etc.
  15. I wonder if they've ever considered a "traveling" block party?
  16. As long as it's non-commercial, I don't see why anyone should have an issue with it. People have had "trading cards" made up that they leave as their calling card. Just be sure you leave it IN the cache, not ON it.
  17. Did you get to meet any of the Tweto family when you flew up there?
  18. Am I the only one frustrated coming upon a matchbox or bison tube that's located in a perfect area for a regular sized cache, such as an ammo can? I was scoping out an area perfect for a multi stage with a CHIRP device (and associated regular stage 1 for non-CHIRPers), but in the middle of the park is a waterproof match container.
  19. I was in an urban park off the beaten path and was going under some trees and through brush. Got back to my truck and went to make a call. Waitaminute...where is my (expensive) Bluetooth headset? I walked back to GZ and my phone showed connected to Bluetooth. UGH, too much ivy and kudzu. It had a full charge and has an obnoxiously bright blue LED that flashes when a call is coming in, so I come back that night with a pre-paid Verizon phone I have for trail emergencies when AT&T has no service. I go back to the GZ and connect my Atrix to the headset. I call it from the Verizon phone and start looking around. 3' from where I'm standing a see something flashing blue in the Kudzu. 'Lo and behold it's my headset! Another SNAFU was that we went to the Sweetwater State Park cache for the GA State Parks Challenge and left our passports in my truck, so we weren't able to stamp them. I went back a few weeks later while I was in the area and got the stamp.
