  1. My husband was going on about something similar. We helped "Rocketman" along and even took his pic at NASA and stuff. We did cool stuff with other TB's too, but oddly none of the owners have logged on. We don't necessarily expect anything, but we'd like them to see how far and where their TB's have gone. C'est la vie, I suppose.
  2. One of the TB owners posted a note on this asking this asshat (my words) to release her TB. Husband said, "She's a lot nicer than I would have been." This guy is really getting to me. He needs to be stopped.
  3. That happened to me, too, recently. Really irritated me. The person who did it has been caching since 2003, too. Anyway, I simply posted a note on the TB log explaining what happened (didn't write down the # to grab back). The TB owner emailed me with a snarky reply saying, "this is why you log them right away with your iPhone." So I didn't bother contacting the person who did this to set it straight. Just yesterday I saw they posted a note acknowledging their screwup and asked if the owner could fix it.
  4. I definitely whine about not having being able to find hide places, but I am completely fine with the status quo and, like others, think increasing the distance might improve quality caches. My complaint isn't due to the distance rule, but the proximity of lower quality caches. But hey, first come first served and I like to believe they are genuinely trying to contribute to the hobby and enjoying themselves. I can always find a place. My sadness comes about when I find the perfect place, a place that tells a great story, or has an interesting history, but there is a cache too close! But that's part of the game. Bamboozle, I like your sig. I wish I had that attitude!
  5. That's jacked. Wish I the cache was near me, so I could rescue them and merely post a note. Wow... I didn't get what you initially meant by TB hoggin. Now I do. Unbelievable.
  6. Haha. No kidding! Such a great tool. I've done this with a few of the favorite TB's that have crossed my path! Thank you! Not sure where you live, but you can actively seek out caches by size. I'm fortunate that there are plenty of normal sized caches where I live. The only time I really find micros is when I'm radius-slutting (or slaving?) to clear out a given area. Or if they're really cool. I'm going out of town this weekend and there is a cache on our 'hope to find' list that is large enough to accommodate the 14 lb bowling ball TB!! I'd love to run across such a TB and help it on it's endeavors. How rad!
  7. Puzzle. There is nothing to give you any numbers/letters to convert to make coordinates... However, as it's been published and found, the only way to change it is to archive and Re-publish. Most reviewers don't like to change cache type once the cache has been found, as it changes cachers statistics.) On the other hand, there is zero mystery/riddles to make it a puzzle. Sigh... I agree though. I'll just leave it as is, I suppose. :/
  8. So excited. One of my TB's, whose goal was to make it to a specific Harry Potter Cache in England, has made it to Europe!!! Wow. Pretty much predicted a 90% failure rate, but my bugs are doing okay. If someone finds him and brings him back to the US before his goal, I'll hunt them down... JK. I'm just pretty excited he made it to another continent!
  9. It's pretty decent here in SD, but there's definitely the junk like hair ties and such. I usually leave behind something little such as die, or something small. I also trade things of course. Usually I trade and just move stuff to different caches. Occasionally I trade and keep the items I've evenly traded for. I've come across some really decent stuff and left really decent stuff in return. I enjoy the swag part of the game, but I'm still new so we'll see. Tom Toad, I LOVE your signature and your avatar title!! Very clever.
  10. He's not just some "poor old quirky guy". His original cache post was written to evoke contention. It worked. Sort of. But for the most part it caused some humor and chiding with "bogus posts." The grouch was not just being a character, but lashing out. Most of us simply found humor in it.
  11. Ick. I've heard of that. Hope I don't come across such a scenario. We're pretty fortunate here in SD, too. Didn't find a film canister or LPC till find #60. And that find was a film canister and an LPC (my first of both!). I was appreciative though; there was a tiny, handcrafted mouse inside. Traded trinkets and now she rests atop my monitor. No. Kidding. One my first solo finds was a hide-a-key. I could barely open it because it was crammed full of logs and the slider wouldn't work. Had to stick my pen into it and pry it open. Thought I was going to break it.
  12. Oooh. That makes sense. Thanks to both of you for the input.
  13. Seriously. I was a bit bitchy, but I felt that was a fairly rude thing to do (unless she is a noobie to the internetz as well as geocaching). That is hilarious! Hahah. Thank you. That is very kind of you to say and very much appreciated.
  14. LOL. Love it! They do seem to enjoy geocaching. I'm sure they are honestly just clueless. Someone else poked fun of the Hmmmm part of their cache name with a photo of an engine that was out in the middle of the trails. Heheh. Hmmm an engine.
  15. Hmm. Is our second hide a puzzle or multi? We've read the guidelines and while I get a bit confused between puzzles and multis, this one seemed like a multi. However, someone logged that it was a puzzle. We did pose a couple of "questions", but they're more of a tongue in cheek due to the location. There's absolutely no solving or decoding with this one. Simply a one-stage multi (or so we thought). http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=a67c217e-bbb9-4fe6-afde-ce78680fdd61 Thank you.
  16. None for me sadly. Encountered an alligator while hiking, but that was before I was a geocacher. Snakes, too, of course. However, today we found a cache in on a trailhead sign. It was really high and out of my reach. The husband grabbed it, thank god. I'd have died. It was one of those sliding gum tins like you see at starbucks. He opened it and suddenly dropped it on one of our dogs, then started frantically brushing her off. I saw all these things crawling away. He said there were about 20 earwigs in the cache. He didn't make a peep. I'd have freaked the eff out. Ugh. Not dangerous, but extremely creepy.
  17. I think I've picked up every TB/coin I've ever run across. I love them. But I've yet to drop any in the same cache. Some I hold on to (if I have a trip planned that happens to aid their mission) and state approximate timeline in their logs, some I release quickly. I hope I'm not hogging them.
  18. Even another reviewer! And he has now edited it to say co-FTF. LOL. Looks like the CO removed the whiny business about co-FTF from his cache description. (Apparently, I become really nosy when I try to avoid studying.)
  19. What is up with those?! We ran across two throw downs, today. They were done by an 8000 find cacher too! On one we never found the real container. 4 star difficulty so pretty certain the container we found quite easily was not correct (also it didn't match description). Logged as a DNF and mentioned the throw down. In the same area, we found throw down first, then the real cache and took our pic with it. What's odder is that the guy doing this had two new hides put out at the same trails. Neither one contained a logbook (FTF's said they put down logbooks), but both of his throw downs had logbooks. So strange. Maybe senility or something.
  20. How funny. It looks like everyone signing his log is writing FTF!
  21. Cool. Decided to email them after reading this. They said they'd love it if we added a boat. Totally not my business, but I figure it'll get more places and is less likely to get lost with an attachment. I'm a bit TB obsessed.
  22. Ooh. How exciting! And such a cool bday idea! We have two now. Both were published by the next morning which was a nice surprise. Our first has two finds now, but TB is still there. Second one had a TB, but he's on his way. Chances are TB's aren't going to get very far anyway, but it's a fun gamble to try. So I wouldn't worry about the muggles too much.
