  1. Well, I must say that I interpret the OP's use of the word "unacceptable" to simply mean undesirable. To quote, ".... maybe we can see some pattern of what people really do not like to look for when caching". So, in no particular order, here is my personal Top Ten list of "unacceptable" cache hides. 1. Micros hidden in the woods. 2. Micros hidden in urban areas. 3. Caches hidden in or around dumpsters. 4. Caches hidden in or around homeless encampments. 5. Caches that require me to demonstrate "stealth". 6. Caches that might initiate contact with law enforcement due to my failure to demonstrate "stealth". 7. Caches advertised as being hidden simply because "this place literally screamed out for a cache". 8. Caches with poorly written cache descriptions. 9. Caches that require me to send an e-mail to the cache owner for any reason. 10. Did I already say micros hidden in the woods? Having said that, most of these "unacceptable" cache hides become quite acceptable to me if there's a FTF opportunity involved!
  2. Yes, Rev Mike, once you start doing this it's difficult to stop! I particularly like your pics that show either waterfalls or rapids. And in the last series of images you posted, I do believe I recognize the famous "Natural Bridge" in Virginia as I visited that site myself about ten years ago. I can even remember spotting George Washington's initials carved in the rock under the bridge! Now, here's another image from one of my archived caches (Picture Perfect!). It's a view looking to the north-east across Guthrie Lake in central Oklahoma. The late evening sunshine on the exposed rocks (we were in a drought situation at the time) transformed them into this lovely rich orange red color that you can't appreciate anymore because the lake is back to full capacity and the rocks are now submerged.

  4. No, once you make a note in the log and issue one online, you're good to go. I used to do that a few years back when collecting geocoin icons was all the rage but the novelty soon wore off and I stopped doing that a long time ago.
  5. I posted this image yesterday on another thread but, since I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, I think it's better off being placed here instead. The cache is Lost in the Woods and the image shows the North Canadian River (purportedly named for a couple of French Canadian trappers many years ago) as it meanders through the Stinchcomb Wildlife Preserve in Bethany, Oklahoma.
  6. Hmm, after seeing what other people carry about, I think I'd be too embarrassed to show anyone the contents of my bag. However, here's a picture of my backpack at a cache I found today (Lost in the Woods) along the North Canadian River (allegedly named after French Canadian trappers many years ago) in the Stinchcomb Wildlife Preserve in Bethany, OK. Oh yes, I was FTF, wahoo!
  7. For a moment there, you had me thinking that you meant "lawn" mower!
  8. Well, I have to confess that I continually tweak the difficulty levels of my puzzle caches and never think twice about it.
  9. Just a few pics of the carnage suffered by one of my ammo can caches (JamGuys' Tenth!) after the cedar tree it was placed under was recently bulldozed. Managed to salvage some of the contents but eventually decided to archive the cache. I guess you really can't stop progress.
  10. Congrats on achieving 1000 caches, Okiebryan, and that's a great log! Thanks for all the research and effort you put into hiding caches across the state of Oklahoma!
  11. Thanks for bringing up this subject as I've also been thinking of getting a new camera and could do with a bit of advice. Most of the pics I've taken while caching (I've recently posted a number of these on another thread) have been with a Nikon Coolpix 885 which is a 3.2 megapixel camera I've had for about 6 or 7 years (in an emergency situation, I use my iPhone!), and it's been acting very sluggish of late. I'm thinking it's about time for an upgrade but haven't really looked into what's available as yet. I'll be very interested in the responses of the more camera-wise folks out there.
  12. Great pics, guys, but wearing shorts above the snowline is probably not for me! Here in Oklahoma, we don't have snow-capped peaks but we do have lots of man-made lakes. This is one of my favorite pics from what was once a remote spot on Lake Arcadia outside of Edmond, Oklahoma. The reflection of the trees in the water at the time was mesmerizing! I used it as the frontispiece for another one of my puzzle caches (GC106MP) but sadly it fell victim to the bulldozer earlier this year.
  13. Well, since I seem to have the stage on this thread at the moment, I thought I'd share a few more images from my files of which I'm especially proud. I hope you like them too! Lake Ellsworth, Oklahoma, in fall (GCZ3AR) Lake Chickasha, Oklahoma (GCYWGN) North Canadian River at dawn, Jones, Oklahoma (GCY79E) Lake Arcadia, Oklahoma, in February (GC10RNY - one of my puzzle caches) Retainer pond at a sand-mining facility, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at twilight (GCZ8TH) ..... and my personal favorite, a parking lot in SW Oklahoma City at dawn! (GCPP54)
  14. Okay, I'll play: GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT Being FTF on this cache even though the posted co-ords were off by 10+ miles! Geo Riddling GREATEST BLUNDER No real blunders but maybe a few misjudgements, miscalculations, and missed FTF opportunities!
  15. Can you imagine the negative impact this would have on Wal-Mart if every lame LPC hidden in their parking lots prompted a shutdown by law enforcement?
  16. You Know You're Addicted To Geocaching When... You post 7 consecutive times on the same topic in the Groundspeak Forums just so you can make the little ammo can icon change from blue to red .....
  17. And now for something completely different, some spectacular coastal views from a few caches we found in county Cornwall in England last year. GC1257V GC11A9R GCP6HP
  18. Wait a minute, how could I forget this gem! Sunrise at Liberty Lake (GC17CTM) in central Oklahoma!
  19. And finally, my most recent efforts from this urban cache in Chandler in central Oklahoma:148 Steps to Silk Stocking Row The steps on the way up The steps on the way down Surprise find at the top (not the cache!)
  20. A few rustic scenes: An old barn just outside of Kingfisher in central Oklahoma (GC1HXY6). A derelict service station in Jamesville in northeastern Oklahoma (GC1GG56); the man in the picture lives next door. An old pony truss bridge across Brush Creek in Jacktown in central Oklahoma (GC1HNYC).
  21. Here are the remains of an old military road (GCVKB6) that crosses the Ouachita Mountains in southeastern Oklahoma. From the cache page: "..... the remains of a road built in 1832 by the U.S. Army. Soldiers had to dig and form the entire thing by hand. The road bed and a rock culvert remain. The road was originally used to relocate the Choctaw people to their new home in Indian Territory and to move supplies and troops between Fort Towson in Oklahoma and Fort Smith in Arkansas. Robert E. Lee, General Zachary Taylor, Ulysses S. Grant, and other famous figures used the road. Travelers from Poteau, Wister and Talihina used the road until about 1930." I also got this neat shot of a monarch butterfly (extensively enhanced!).
  22. Here's Wintersmith Park lake (GC1FZXM) in Ada in southeastern Oklahoma!
  23. Here's a series of pictures I took a few months back of scenic Okmulgee Lake (GC1F6P5) in northeastern Oklahoma.
