  1. I just noticed your request. Sorry for not responding sooner. For rapid responses to your requests about all things geocaching in Wisconsin, try this site: www.wi-geocaching.com Did you find any east side caches? Ken
  2. Here's a blog by a gc.com reviewer about reviewing geocaches.
  3. Thank you! Signed, The creator of the WGA presentation
  4. In addition to not listing coordinates for all the waypoints, which others have mentioned, a common mistake in Iowa is placing caches on DNR-managed land and not obtaining permission to do so (which the Iowa DNR requires).
  5. We're planning a trip to the Tuscon area in early March. Will do some geocaching, hiking and rock climbing. We're searching the 'net for possible places to stay, but I thought I'd ask for some expert local advice. Can anyone recommend a good B&B?
  6. Let me add my welcome also. I guess I'm one of the old-timers in Wisconsin, at least in terms of how long I've been at it. OK, in age, too.
  7. We're planning a vacation trip to Sedona in September. Wondering if any locals can recommend a good Bed & Breakfast in that area -- something nice just for two.
  8. Thanks, Paul. We checked out Leavenworth info and it looks great. Thanks for the tip.
  9. I was in South Sioux City, Nebr. last week, stopped at one geocache there. That night I saw on the local news that a mountain lion was shot and killed that day in South Sioux City, Nebr. It was sitting in a homeowner's tree minding its own business, but the police didn't know what else to do but kill it.
  10. We're heading to Washington in early March for a vacation. We're looking for a nice but not fancy motel or hotel to spend one night on our way from the Seattle airport to the Freestone Inn near Mazama. Perhaps somewhere near Cle Elum? Any locals who can give us some recommendations? Also, how about a good place to spend two nights in Seattle on our return trip?
  11. I just read this Tayjam's bio: "Just getting started with geocaching. It seems like a wholesome, fun activity that my whole family can enjoy." Yes but despite that it's still fun.
  12. If you're near Eldon, Iowa, stop by the American Gothic house and visit a virtual cache for a chance to win the $25 prize. Contest ends Nov. 28, 2004. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...8f-eedc92331b03
  13. I'm not sure where you got your stats, but I see some irregularities. For example, I don't think Iowa has close to the number of caches that your list claims.
  14. Here's the description of a fake cache I placed to give a newbie local reviewer some practice in archiving a cache: A virtual cache that I buried while on vacation under the railroad tracks on the Army base next to the nuclear power plant across from the kindergarten school.
  15. My favorite saying about geocaching fanaticism: Anyone with more geocache finds than me is obsessed. Anyone who has less than me is inexperienced.
  16. Yup, log each and every DNF that you have. But please call them "DNFs" instead of "DNF's" because they're not possessive. OK, I know that was picky. It was simply meant as a friendly observation from a word guy.
  17. Two months after I got my GPS in 2000 I started saving daily tracks of EVERYWHERE that I went. My goal was to do this for an entire year and post them on my website, sort of like the novelty of in-home webcams that were in the news at that time. I saved the daily track logs for about 6 months and then abandoned the project. I got tired of the daily work to do it, and I also grew concerned about the privacy issue of publishing everywhere that I went for all the world to see. I still have those MapSource tracklog files stored on an older computer. It may be fun to go back and take a look sometime.
  18. Seems hard to believe that you didn't know you were blonde until a few weeks ago. Sorry, I couldn't resist!
  19. This software won't give you a true moving image, but it will take automatic snapshots of your screen at intervals that you preset. http://www.iopus.com/rd/starr9.htm
  20. During my second winter of geocaching, I opened a cache and discovered the remains of an exploded frozen Coca-cola. Eveything inside the cache was ruined. For that reason the WGA and other regional groups in northern climates have this warning on their websites. (Scroll down to the bottom of the page.)
  21. Just a minor correction. Not every GPS will give you a bearing to your destination. My Garmin eMap won't. It has a pointer arrow but not a precise bearing degree indicator.
  22. In southern Wisconsin we have many creative types. badlatitude is known for inventing and constructing physical puzzles made from wood and other materials with secret drawers or electronic buttons and lights. Very entertaining. Cheesehead Dave, Artopsy, Cache Cows, RPaske, Jthorson, are also on the list of very creative cache creators.
