  1. Bummer. Can't get the club page to load. Trying to think of something new and unique to bring for a door prize, but am coming up short. So, I'll bring another unregistered TB dog tag. Really like MMB's Smoky Mountain themed logo and am looking forward to seeing the cake! I've got a digital camera--only a 3.1 megapixel--I can bring to commit the whole affair to history.......
  2. Hmmm. I'd wondered about that, too. When someone logs a cache find, you get the cache as well as the text of their message. TB movements, only the link. Good question.
  3. The name's Sherman. When I was a tot (up until the time I was 33 or so ) my family called me Peewee. Haven't a clue why. Some of my sibs still call me by my given name, some by my nickname. The screen name/alias is a compilation of the two...hence, P-Herm.
  4. Me? I love signature items. Collect 'em. Got two Planters peanut jars full of stuff. Bowed-Up, my better half, collects hat pins. Her bona fide Geocaching hat has about 40 pounds of 'em. As an alternative, when visiting out of state, we like to pick up items that depict attractions from whatever the local area happens to have. Leaving items....Bowed-Up is partial to spitting frogs; I've gravitated to bear figurines, pot hangers (frogs, geckos, turtles, etc.) from my local A.C. Moore store.
  5. The cache location just happened to be at a spot which afforded a commanding view in all directions, including the lake approximately 100' below...it would appear that the location offered enough incentive for others to find it suitable for camping/staying the night. The cache was a relatively easy find from this vantage point. The first (accidental) log was from an individual who had taken up residence for the night, established his camp fire, and proceeded to indulge in his smoke of choice. He discovered the cache while contemplating his lot, the moon, the heavens...and proceeded on to a rather fascinating log in the logbook...the second (accidental) log in the same book was from a couple who discovered the cache, only to find that someone had logged at about the time when they were skinnydipping in the lake... Oh, the horror!!! I just about laughed myself blind.
  6. It is not my intent, but I'm about to shake out on the wrong side of two, yes two, groups of people. One of the neatest caches I ever found was a VIRT in a CEMETERY which had me look up info on a grave marker. In addition to the individual's name and particulars, the stone also was inscribed with the individual's 'claim to fame'. I had no idea, and left with the satisfaction that I'd learned something. It was pretty cool.
  7. My motivation? Monitoring the state maps and looking for clusters of caches. If there is a multitude of caches in the area, there has to be something there...I've never been disappointed. Also...folks who live in a given area know where the things to be seen are, and are quite proud of the fact. They place caches at these sites to draw other cachers, (such as myself). I've seen more unique, incredible, spectacular views and sights simply as a result of monitoring the cache posts for a given area, and finding these caches on my trips. I'll never vacation again without downloading the cache pages for the area I'll be visiting. Even if you aren't caching, the cache pages usually provide an opportunity to visit something you might have missed otherwise.
  8. Just happened to me recently...apparently, someone in the western NC area has found the geocaching website and is creating havoc. Not having a better alternative, I archived the cache to avoid the possibility others would try to find a cache that no longer existed...better ideas?
  9. Lots of good ideas posed by others. Bowed-Up and I use the standard packs of the Camelbak type, (beer, anyone?) as well as a Gerber/Leatherman-type multi-gizmo. Was especially intrigued by Criminal's lockpick entry. Must say though...if traveling in tandem with others, I would have to recommend use of two-way radios. Opey One, Granny Grump and I fell into a situation in the SW VA mountains where these were particularly handy...
  10. Shoulda been 'coasters'. Dang keyboard.
  11. Bowed-Up leaves spitting frogs. I leave Rocky River Brewery coaster. Not quite sure what that says about us....
  12. Okay...so I don't do so well with directions/instructions. Sorry, Planet et al for tying up the thread!
  13. Hope this works! Never posted to the forums before; followed Planet's instructions....moment of truth awaits!
