  1. I don't have the Droid X but do have many other Android devices using clients OTHER than the Geocaching app. Make sure you have GPS enabled and that your device is not solely relying on the GSM network for location information. Of the Android's I have the Acer Liquid is the best and matches my Garmin devices for location (even in challenging environments). The worst of the bunch struggles with less than 20m accuracy. That device will go nameless.
  2. The latest market version and beta don' work on my Palm Pre II. Fails at the point of downloading page data. This application doesn't get the frequency of updates necessary to keep up with Groundspeak. I'll be watching future developments with interest as it does appear to be a good app and very similar in capability to c:geo (for Android).
  3. Try attending a local event to meet cachers in your area.
  4. The cache page clearly says: "No hints will be give until someone has found the cache. Please be very careful with the GZ as it is already having issues as you will see." I'd say he's given you plenty already!
  5. How do we know what application we can't talk about when you quickly remove any reference to that application?? How helpful is it to say "don't talk about [fill in the blanks] if you haven't filled in the blanks?
  6. If all references are removed regarding this app how do we know what we can't talk about?
  7. Considering how long it has been down AND the lack of public outcry - is this an indication that Wherigo's are dying/dead?
  8. [Edited by moderator to remove references to unauthorized applications.] That sounds a little Orwellian, what are the unauthorized applications, and why are they unauthorized? Post 12 is likely to get a haircut as well. Read it before it does!
  9. Without knowing your location and proximity to a WAAS signal it is impossible to accurately answer this question. HOWEVER, you say that "with WAAS not enabled and it seems to work just fine" so why bother? WAAS is not much help for the typical places that geocachers find themselves (canyons, behind buildings, large trees, etc). Of course your mileage may vary.
  10. It _was_ free - it costs a one off $15 / 15euro now . Try OpenGPX and their companion s/w - you won't be disappointed.
  11. How's this for a useless hint? After reviewing 5 photos, each taken at GZ and in total capturing a 360 degree view... the CO indicates "it's to your left" Left of WHAT?? Left while facing South? North? East? West? somewhere in between? Completely useless!!
  12. Geocache Navigator is free for Nokia devices, many of which are Symbian OS based. If this doesn't apply to you then you may wish to check out OpenGPX. I'm using this on my Nokia N86.
  13. Looks good but if you are targeting the geocaching crowd you will need to provide support for importing >gpx or .loc files. Have a look at GeoBeagle for inspiration.
  14. Accuracy will be a moot point if you take your HTC Touch out caching in the rain or drop it in the forest. I have access to many devices with GPS capability and test them all for suitability to geocache but in the end none pass the rugged/waterproof test. The Nicque application is a smashing piece of software but unless you have a rugged or industrial PPC device is only suitable as a backup or research tool. Fun to play with all the toys but really you should be using the tool that is engineered for the task.
  15. Another vote for GCz II - Exceptionally well done application that I use when out caching with SonyEricsson Xperia.
  16. I just visited a recently placed cache tonight that appeared to be on private property. When I got home to log the find I noticed several others had the same feeling and said so in their logs. This prompted the cache owner to post a page update "to visit the cache after hours". So much for asking for permission!
  17. Well I sincerely hope no one buys a Magellan instead of a Garmin due to this thread!
  18. If your WM device has a built-in GPS check out GCzII for a completely comprehensive geocaching solution (when internet is available). Add GPXviewer and download your PQs when internet is not available. Cheers
  19. I haven't personally tried it in a Smartphone but GPX viewer works great in my SonyEricsson X1. http://www.fesevur.com/gpxviewer/ Tried it. Says the version of .net I have is incompatible. Tried to install the 2.0 and it wouldn't let me. Said the one I had was newer. Now you need to find a "Microsh*t" workaround Another application you may wish to try for spontaneous caching (not preloaded PQ's) is GCzII. This is a fantastic program that is along the lines of Geocache Navigator (except free). It can be found here: http://www.nicque.com/PQz/GCz.htm
  20. Trying it out on my SonyEricsson X1 - looks great so far. Keep up the great work!
