  1. Thanks for the information. And does your screeen name come from the title character of his 1897 novel Dracula based on an actual human being, or should we say inhuman being?
  2. What is the accuracy of the speedometer/'MPH function on a GPS. I realize that signal strength would affect that function. But given a good lock what would the variance be on average.
  3. The LE is still listed on the Magellan site as of 10 minutes ago, and I couldn't find any information about it being discontinued. But I could have missed it.
  4. Check and double check the seller's feedback. Make sure any positive feedback was posted over an extended period of time and not all on the same day. Too often these too goo to be true prices are just that. Good idea, but I have reviewed his feedback. Member since 8/26/01. Feedback count 1059 for the last 12 months @100% positive. Looks like a good person to deal with. Now all I have to do is decide between the Garmin and the Magellan, as I have found great prices on both. Oh and it's not a Garmin vs Magellan thing it is about the features. I have a Magellan 300 now that I really like, but I keep hearing good things about the 60csx.
  5. Thanks for all the comments. Even without the rebate it looks to be a fair deal. With the rebate it looks like a must buy. I'll see what the seller says about the receipt.
  6. Unfortunately, the rebates do not apply to online auctions! Rich Owings www.GPStracklog.com www.MakeYourOwnMaps.com “We were desert mystics, my friends and I, poring over our maps as others do their holy books.” – Edward Abbey No I am not bidding on this item, I am buying it from a person that has several listed on ebay. This would be a purchase not a winning bid. I wonder how Garmin would see that. As that deal would be the green light to buy this instead of a Magellan Explorist 600.
  7. Yes that price is before the rebate. How do I get a rebate coupon, as this is an offer from a seller on ebay?
  8. I have an offer to buy this GPS for 306.97 plus 10.50 shipping. Is this a good offer or should I wait until after Christmas and watch for sales. Thanks for any suggestions. Team Cooter
  9. Everything is fine with your unit. That is the correct operation, not useing those numbers. It kind of got me too when I first started. Cache on!
  10. Happy Thanksgiving to all the good people of the GEO family. Team Cooter Brandon,MS.
  11. I found that to be problem also, and I only use cachemate to load my Palm. After doing the same thing you did, I just load the caches I am after that day and delete the files after I get through. I just start over on the next days hunt and download what I want, saving all the unfound caches in a folder. Not a great way but it works for me.
  12. Don't ever forget to zoom the GPSr in on a cache and bushwack a trail for two miles only to find the cache within sight of a nice parking area. And don't do this more than once, like I did/do.
  13. Magellan Explorist 300. It has worked very well for me at caching and marine applications. I.E. marking fishing spots. I am looking at getting either a Explorist 600 or a Garmin 60CSX. I just can't make up my mind.
  14. I can down load the files from this site and use Chachemate to load the files into my Palm V. I read through all the information on paperless cacheing and am now hooked on the concept. I was able to load the information into my palm with Cachemate. I know there are more robust programs out there, but I am very new to all this and will keep it simple for a while. In going through the learning curve I entered several files for practice and familiarization. I, now, can't figure out how to delete them from the Cachemate program in my Palm. I have tried everything I know, that wasn’t much. Can some one tell my how to perform this function? If I can figure this out I think Team Cooter will like this paperless system much better than trying to keep up with a clipboard full of paper. BTW These forums have been a big help in getting started with this sport!! Thanks in advance for any help. Got it. No need for reply.
  15. The link for Paperless Caching from our brothers at the florida geocaching association; http://65.34.18.106/content.php?article.15 That is one very good resource.
  16. Team Cooter is useing a Magellan Explorist 300. We are now on the hunt for another unit so we can both have one.
