  1. Okay, so I've become obsessed with the illusion and disguising properties of mirrors and I'm really trying to come up with a unique way to incorporate them into a cache. A few ideas that I have an octagonal box covered entirely in mirrors so that it will reflect its surroundings from all directions. I think this would be really awesome camo if I could place it right. Another idea I have is a night cache using several mirrors reflecting off of each other and requiring the finder to bring a flashlight at night to open a solar powered lock box. If you're having trouble picturing this idea, think of the movie National Treasure when they accidentally open the door because the light hits the switch just right. And finally... I really like this idea where you have to use the mirror to somehow work out a puzzle to open the other side of the box. If you have ideas about how to make these things work, or have other great mirror ideas, I would love to hear them.
  2. With all these links, I keep expecting to get rickrolled.
  3. Yes you can. Are you using the app or the website? If you're using the app, you click on the trackables tab, hit retrieve it and enter the log info. If its listed in a cache other than what you find it in, you may have to grab it first or discover it and then retrieve it.
  4. I had no idea what rickrolling was until this, and once I found out, I laughed so hard I cried. Yep, it's the dumb stuff that gets me. That's great. Gotta love when someone tells you they're tricking you and you're surprised when you get tricked.
  5. um...conspiracy theorist? My reccomendation, don't lie to cops, they're not dumb and silence isn't a good reason to let you go. If you get stopped, politely explain what you're doing, if they ask you to leave, do it.
  6. I totally agree with this. As a new cacher, I accept there is a learning curve in the game. As you find more and more difficult caches you learn how to search better. In my area, there are experience teams that share cache info with each other, which is a shock to me. You have over 2-6k in finds yet you are calling others to go out with you or to basically tell you where it is. I accept the fact there may be caches that I might not find for a while, until I obtain more experience. I log the DNF, and move on, eventually coming back. People are way hung up on numbers and % of DNFs. It's only a game. y I like this for the fact that when I started, I had no idea what to look for. I had to search online for what a "common hide" was because I got tired of reading qpng tftc. I was getting frustrated in the middle of parking lots where there couldn't possibly be a cache and a hint that says "geocaching 101." There is no guide book that tells you what to look for on an urban hide particularly. Then I came across those lamp post hides. I was stunned. I could then find every lamp post hide, but when I would come to an area where there was a lamp post and no cache under it, I would get confused. By accident, I found my first nano on a bench. That opened up a whole new cache type and I was able to go back and find several that I had DNF'd. That sort of progression always leads me back to hides that I DNF'd before and I am typically able to close that one out. Its all about learning different types of hides that are typical of different areas. I now recognize good places to hide caches, and its not uncommon for me to walk up to a cache without a gps search, just knowing that there has to be a cache there. Its also frustrating for me to find a guard or lamp post nano with a hollowed out tree 15 feet away. I always think "Thats a wasted hiding spot."
  7. Sven posted a video talking about how he has spoken to Groundspeak and they agree with him and they are going to get him back online as soon as possible. Problem Solved.
  8. ...can't believe this thread is still going. Everything that can possibly be said about this has to have been said by now.
  9. My first thought when I heard about this today on the radio was "I bet he was a cacher."
  10. I think it's a watch! You posted on the forums it's a watch, so it's definitely a watch. Edited: added in appostrophes for knowschad Thanks! Would you now mind fixing the spelling of 'appostrophes', too? One step at a time friend. I was the 4th grade spelling bee champion, now I'm just a dumb fireman

  12. Oh, get back in your box. The OP invited comment and got it. Yes I'm sure he was looking for ridicule. This was a cool post until the trolls jumped in, but once again, somebody had to throw their un-needed two cents in. I guarantee you wouldn't talk like that to someone face to face, you'll just hide behind your monitor with little snipes, but do us all a favor, until you grow a pair, stay off the happy threads.
  13. It surprises me that in the forums, no matter what is posted in any thread, there is always someone there to jump on someone else for something dumb. Geocaching is a green game that is supposed to be full of courteous people, who leave stuff the way they find it or better and yet, these forums are routinely mean. Not by all, just by a select few. That being said, I'll never make it to 1095 because I work 24 hours at a time. The longest streak I could have is maybe 2 weeks. Sigh, maybe in retirement...
  14. What common swag crap are you sick of seeing in every single cache. For me it has to be those silly bands. They're in every single one which leaves the exciting factor of them, null. I did find an unopened pack of screwdrivers yesterday. I thought that was excellent but it will probably be traded for...silly bands.
  15. This better not have been a nano!
  16. I've only moved along 3 bugs but the first one I did was placed into a visitor center cache in a huge tourism area in TN. It sat for probably 1 day (if that) and then moved to Texas, where it has been sitting since august 16. I would imagine that rest areas and visitor centers would yield these kind of results as a general rule.
  17. I think it would be really cool to have a plaque engraved with the name of the cache at the top, and the names of all the cachers that had signed on it. Also to be included around it should be the pictures that have been left with it, and if it is an interesting cache, upon archive, the container should be included as well. All of this should then be sent off to the International Museum of Geocaching History and placed on display for all the world to see. The museum itself should be considered a cache, being placed beneath the worlds largest lamp post and found using coordinates and a hint, which will undoubtedly be "too easy."
  18. I bet it could be knocked out by making it unbearably heavy for a kid to take, or a simple, "oh I'm just looking for my car keys, oh wait, here they are in my pocket, stupid me."
  19. Have you ever thought of going out and actually finding the multis? Save the coords for each stage then you can avoid them yourself. And what's with the rivers around the parks in your area? I see the parks full of caches, but how come no caches are hidden along the rivers? I suspect it has something to do with the unpredictable tidelines and weather patterns. We get quite a few nor'easters, quite a bit of rainfall and the occasional hurricane. It doesn't take much for an area to wash out entirely. Update: I did find a spot and my cache was published today and had its FTF. I am sorry for those of you that were offended with my word choice yesterday. I was simply expressing frustration and the more I really looked around for a good place today, the more places I found. Thanks for not totally beating me into the ground, even you Walt, and the other fellow grumpy old man. I hope one day you get to seek it out and it meets your approval.
  20. Interesting you should say that, I went back and checked through my previous finds after reading this and found that my 2nd or 3rd find ever, which was a location I LOVED but did't care for the container ( a mini ziplock with a log in it) was archived recently and would be the perfect spot for one of mine. Thanks for that advice.
  21. niraD, thanks for the useful info. Walt, I'm gonna chaulk you up to a grumpy old man and let you have whatever it is that you think you have that lets you decide whether or not this is for me, seniority maybe? Whatever, its yours, you're the veteran and I'm just the dumb newbie. I enjoy doing it and if I ever get out to California, I'm gonna seek out every single one of your caches and sign my name in big BOLD letters on your log books.
  22. Not from me! No appostrophe's here knowschad. Oh wait..crap.
  23. Well, you do refer to it as litter. You might start by extending your range past 5 miles, and second, try a little more respect to your fellow geocachers. A good multi is a significant effort, and fun to do. My range is much further than 5 miles. I was simply using it as a point of reference. My reviewers note said " I doubt you'll find a spot anywhere in this area" and then listed off all the multi's that I was within .1 miles of some stage of their cache. Perhaps the frustration with the multi's is that I can't see the stages past the initial so that I can avoid being near them, so I have to keep going back out and picking it up, which sucks to carry a heavy log a quarter mile through the woods and start over after I got so excited to put it out. As for litter, insert your own synonymn. It wasn't meant as an insult.
