Sunday morning I took my girls (ages 6 and 2) on our 1st ever treasure hunt/geocaching adventure.
I picked a spot that (from the description) wouldn't be "too hard" but still offered a chance to get out of the truck and hike through the woods a little bit following a GPS to the treasure's location. It was so much fun. My 6 year old kept finding the right "path" to take, and the 2 year old loved tromping around in the forest.
After about 15-20 minutes of searching I spotted the geocache box up in the trees. I kept quiet and told the girls "I think we're getting REAL close...y'all keep your eyes out and look for it." After a couple minutes my 6 yr old yelled..."Daddy - THERE it is...get it, get it!!" It was very fun.
We opened the box and they each picked out a trinket. We signed the log, put in the trinkets we brought and returned it to it's location. Great 1st experience and the girls are definitely "hooked" for more. They didn't want to go home but wanted to go on another adventure...so I pulled up some other coordinates I had brought with me...just in case, and we went on our 2nd hunt. It was a little more difficult and the thorny over-grown path kept them from following me, but the still loved when I yelled "FOUND IT". Exchanged some trinkets there too and it was definitely a great 1st experience in the world of GeoCaching. Can't wait to do it again.
No...no pictures this time, but next time I'll post some.
