  1. I always carry a WG$ with me whenever I go out. Trading one is always in addition to a regular "goodie" trade, i.e. I would never take something out of a cache and leave a WG$ in its place. If there aren't and WG$'s in the cache at all, then I usually leave one behind anyway. Now that I got a stamp at www.stampman.com, registering them is a lot easier.
  2. Just out of curiosity, where do they get the numbers? Is Jeremy's database open for anyone to read or have people just hacked a way in? I've wondered that about Buxley's site as well.
  3. quote:Originally posted by mrcpu: Seriously, If I ran into anyone "cooking" I'd mark a waypoint and take a bearing then head back to the car where I'd call the cops from my cellphone. Hmm. I'll have to doublecheck, but I don't think my eTrex has a waypoint icon for "Meth Lab". Maybe in the next update...
  4. ...my Legend was preset to WGS 84 from the factory, so hopefully you shouldn't have to set anything. But... With your unit on, hit the Page button (top one on the right) until you get to the Main Menu (the screen with all the icons.) Use the ClickStick to select Setup and on the next screen, select Units. The second option down is Map Datum. Click on this, and from the pop-up menu, find WGS 84. Select it, and you're all set!
  5. I was browsing Slashdot one day and came across a post where someone had a set of coordinates as their signature. I was curious, so I clicked the link and it took me to their cache page. I had never heard of this before (although now that I think about it, I do remember some discussions about things to do with a GPSr) so I started reading the Geocaching FAQ. It was the coolest thing I had ever heard of. I hadn't even gone out yet and I was already hooked! I picked a Garmin Legend for my GPSr and headed off that weekend for my first hunt. Last weekend I brought out my wife and daughter for the first time and they enjoyed it as well. This weekend I'm planning on scouting a place to hide my first cache. Wish me luck!
  6. ...and it took two days to find. The cache is here and a picture of it is here. Was it too small? I don't think so because of where it was hidden. (Which I'm not going to say! )
  7. ...but I believe the Garmin models that give altitude information (like yours, or my Legend) do not store waypoint information.
  8. I would certainly be interested, even if all it did was allow me to import the *.loc files. I might pay a couple of bucks for that. Add route management, mapping, etc. And I'd definitely pay for this! BTW, I run OS X almost exclusively. And I have the Keyspan adapter, although is anybody else wondering why Garmin doesn't make USB cables now that pretty much any computer made has USB?
